Obituary: William Farrar Pipes, M.D. Bill died peacefully and went to be with his Lord on 2, 2008, at the age of 75. He was born 22, 1932, in San Antonio and was a life-long resident of the city. Bill was a 1951 graduate of Alamo Heights High School and attended The University of Texas at Austin and The University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston graduating in 1957. While completing medical school, he married his sweetheart of 51 years Lucile Winerich in San Antonio on 21, 1956. Upon graduation from medical school, Bill trained at Philadelphia General Hospital prior to serving as a Captain in the United States Army at Fort Sam Houston. He was a long time family practice doctor in the San Antonio community from 1960 to 1994. Bill dedicated his life to treating and healing those who were ill with a quiet, comforting, and compassionate spirit. During his practice, he was active in both the local and state medical community. Bill served as the Medical Director for the Northeast School District for 26 years, was President of the American Academy of Family Physicians, Alamo Chapter in 1969, Chief of Staff of the Southwest Texas Methodist Hospital in 1972, President of the Bexar Medical Society in 1976, and the Texas Medical Association, Board of Councilors for 15 years. He also was a member of the San Antonio Country Club, The San Antonio German Club, and Kappa Sigma Fraternity. Preceeding Bill in death were his parents Ernest and Ora Pipes and two sons William Winerich Pipes Billy and Robert Summers Pipes Bobby. What a reunion he is having with his two boys after 34 years apart. He is survived by his steadfast and loving wife of 51 years Lucile Pipes, son David Pipes and his wife Ruth of Odell, Nebraska; daughter Luci Bell and husband Seth of San Antonio; two grandchildren Billy Pipes and Lucile Bell; brother Reverend Ernest Pipes, Jr. and wife Margaret of Santa Monica, California, and their children Bruce, Gordon, and Heather; along with numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. The family wishes to acknowledge and offer their sincerest appreciation for the loving care of Elmira Robinson and the staff at the Forum at Lincoln Heights. A reception at the church will immediately follow. Serving as pallbearers are Arthur Allison, John Fry, Lamoine Holland, Budge McDonnold, Knox Miller, Brad Pigeon, Rollins Rubsasmen and Bartell Zachry.
