Obituary: If anyone ever cared, really cared for someone else it would have to be Essie Pillows. She was a warm hearted and well liked individual, and these wonderful traits came easily to her because she was such a sociable and amiable person. She was someone who was always making certain those around her had whatever they needed. Essie was a talkative person who was tactful at all times but typically said what she meant. Essie was born at home in Winnsboro, Texas. She was the daughter of Tom and Minnie (Pynes) Caviness and spent her younger years in Winnsboro and Houston. During her childhood she learned to be reliable and respectful. Essie was an obedient child who wanted to win the favor of others. She found it easy to show sympathy and to perform kind acts for others. These admirable qualities would become a part of Essie's personality throughout her life. Though Essie was frequently the one to initiate games and activities with her family, she was also quite often the family member who took the role of referee. Essie was a peace-maker with an ability to resolve all sorts of family conflicts. In fact, Essie worked conscientiously to keep those typical family spats at bay. She was raised with eleven siblings which included five older brothers, Floyd, Robert, Nolan, William and Ray and four older sisters, Thelma, Winnie, Alma and Minnie Fay. One sibling died in infancy. Essie and her siblings had the typical rivalries while growing up, but they cared deeply for one another. As someone who reveled in the sheer joy of her experiences, Essie was always enthusiastic about new adventures. Although she had an exacting nature, Essie was always tactful. One thing Essie will certainly be remembered for is that, when she got up in the mornings, she was ready and raring to go. As a young girl, Essie had a number of interests and was an active child. She really enjoyed playing basketball and in her spare time she enjoyed learning to cook. She started at a young age and the art of cooking did nothing be get better with age. For Essie, the school routines were never a problem although she generally preferred variety to structure. She seemed to be able to start a project and work right through to its completion. And she was able to do it quickly and efficiently. Essie was also adept at details. Essie was very observant and was generally quick at picking up new things. She graduated from Winnsboro High School in 1943. She enjoyed some courses more than others, having favorite classes and teachers, but her favorite class in high school was definitely spelling. There was one thing that all of Essie's friends knew and will still remember, and that is that she was a talker. She could pretty much talk to anybody about anything. This quality is one of the primary reasons that Essie was such a popular person throughout her life. But Essie was also dependable, loyal and trustworthy. Essie was the kind of person who simply radiated good fellowship. While she maintained personal standards and her own personal values, Essie was very accepting of others. With a distinct skill for working things out, Essie was often the person who would organize events. In fact, Essie was fairly comfortable playing the role of host for just about any occasion. When Essie made friends, she made lasting friendships--Regina Betts, Emily Halbert and Marg Hudgins would be some of those true friends. Essie was a faithful and loving person. Some would even call her sentimental and a romantic at heart. Her kindness and consideration radiated an aura of warmth to those around her. Essie cared for what others thought and carried that into her marriage. She was united in marriage with Bill Wade in of 1947 in Houston, Texas. Compassionate and devoted, Essie worked hard to make her new life partner happy, which she did until his death. sharing wedding vows with James H. Pillows, they enjoyed the remainder of Essie's life together. Harmony was important to Essie and she made every effort to maintain it with her family. Essie and Bill were blessed with one child, a daughter named Barbara. were also blessed with three grandchildren, Dawn, Wendy and Tammy; one great grandchild, Krystal; and two great-great grandchildren, Aliyah and Mya. Her marriage to James brought her a son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Jen. Essie was always conscious of the feelings of others. She was reasonable and understanding. As a result, Essie was quick to solve disputes and did so without much fuss. Her secret of success in this area was simple: Essie would listen before she would act. Taking her work seriously came naturally to Essie, and she expected the same from those around her. Essie was a good team player, someone who was born to cooperate with others. She was what some would call a people person and it was demonstrated in her good communication skills. Essie was a steady worker, one who was realistic about schedules. The kind of details that would give family members and work colleagues fits were situations that Essie handled well. She could understand the details without getting lost in the broad ig picture. Her primary occupation was as a telephone operator, but she was appropriately placed in her final position as plant assigner. Essie was employed for 28 years by Southwestern Bell Telephone . She brought harmony to her work environment, doing what was necessary in order to get the job done, while always maintaining respect for her colleagues. A methodical woman, Essie enjoyed spending time working on her various hobbies. She had no problem following all of the steps and instructions on a given project and was proud of the fact that she could have something to show for her efforts. Her favorite pursuits were dancing, gardening and she was a fabulous cook. continued... |
