Obituary: KATHRYN JEAN PICKERING
7/25/1957 \ 01/23/2015
On 23, 2015 at the age of 57, Kathy went to be with our Lord after a courageous and long, hard-fought battle with breast cancer.
Kathy was born on 25, 1957 in Ponca City, Oklahoma to parents James (Jim) and Mary Landers. Due to her fathers career requirements, Kathy lived in many places throughout the country during her childhood. graduating from Oklahoma State University with a Finance degree, Kathy had a successful career working in Executive Benefits for several large oil and gas companies across the country. In 1994, she decided to change careers and attended the South Texas of Law. Like all challenges she faced during her life, Kathy strived to be the best. She graduated Valedictorian of her class in 1997. She then enjoyed a very meaningful and rewarding career as an Estate Planning Attorney with Betty T. Adkins and Associates, retiring in of 2014.
Kathy enjoyed time spent with her beloved collie dogs, Haley and Sandie.
She was much loved by her husband of more than 17 years, John V. Pickering, and her family and many close friends and clients. Please remember the joy and love that Kathy brought to so many people.
Kathy is preceded in death by her mother, Mary Landers. She is survived by her husband, John; her father and step-mother, James and Jan Landers; her sister and brother-in-law, Susan and James Massaro; nephew and wife, Steve and Christa Massaro; niece, KC Massaro; and nephew and wife, Danny and Amanda Massaro; and other family members including her mother-in-law, Vicky Pickering, and sisters-in-law, Lisa Rees and Paula Robinson and their families, as well as many other friends.
Kathy was affiliated with the Presbyterian Church during her life.
The family would like to thank MD Anderson and Memorial Hermann Hospice for the care given to Kathy.
A reception will be held on the evening of 1/26/2015 between 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.at Memorial Oaks at 13001 Katy Freeway, Houston, Texas 77079.
A Memorial Service for Kathy will be held on 1/27/2015 at 10: a.m. at Memorial Oaks to celebrate Kathys wonderful life.

Obituary: John Winton Pickering Rock Roll Legend, singer with the trio The Picks with Buddy Holly and the Crickets.

John Winton Pickering went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on 28, 2011, 9 days before his 78th birthday. He died in Houston, TX from a stroke.

John was born in Murchison, TX on 8, 1933 to John M. Pickering and Ida Elizabeth Nixon Pickering. He was preceded in death by his parents and only sibling, Bill Pickering.

John graduated from Houstons Reagan High School, Class of 51, where he performed on musical shows as a soloist.

John married Vicky Billington of Lubbock, TX and they were married over 53 years.

John served in the U.S. Army as a 2nd Lieutenant, serving at Fort Belvoir, VA and Fort Hood, TX.

John and Vicky have 3 children and 6 grandchildren - daughter Lisa (and husband Craig) Rees, children Garrett, Landon, Rylie and Jansen; daughter Paula (and husband Terry Robinson, Jr.), children Zachary and Jacob; and son John Victor (and wife Kathy) Pickering.

John was born in Murchison, TX to professional singing parents. John became a professional radio singer at the age of five. His parents devised a means for John and Bill to reach the microphone by standing on apple crates. started on radio at Tyler, TX and from there to various radio and T.V. stations throughout the great Southwest. The Pickering Family Quartet performed gospel, country, western, comic and popular songs together for fifteen years, until the death of Pop Pickering in 1953. The family appeared on a daily-30 minute radio show on KTRH in Houston for 2 years. In that time, they made stage appearances with the Statesmen Quartet, Blackwood Brothers, Hank Locklin, Hank Thompson, Curly Fox, TX Ruby, and many more.

Pops death in Lubbock, TX, John and Bill continued singing with various vocal groups, including the late recording star Buddy Holly. were the voices of the Crickets on 9 of the first 12 Cricket songs on The Chirping Crickets LP - the only group-sound album released while Buddy Holly was alive. These songs were recently nominated for a Grammy for Best Historical Album at the 53rd Grammy awards.

John graduated from Texas Tech University in 1957 with a degree in petroleum geology and joined the Humble Oil and Refining in Corpus Christi, TX. He was transferred to Houston with Exxon in 1968. He later became a consultant geologist for various oil companies. He created a Paleontological Database of information from almost 4,000 oil and gas wells in the counties along the Texas Gulf Coast, Nearby State Waters, Offshore TX and W. Cameron Parish, LA.

In 1969 the Pickering Brothers recorded in Nashville on Stop Records with the first country version of Proud Mary and other releases including ones with Daffan Records and Stoneway Records of Houston. had 8 national releases.

In 1984, The Picks, (John and Bill Pickering and Bob Lapham) overdubbed additional recorded Buddy Holly solos that have been released worldwide and are found on their website, www.buddyhollyandthepicks.com. John recorded 4 gospel albums, most of them his original songs. John served as a Deacon, Bible Teacher, Soloist and School Music Director at Houstons First Baptist Church and at several churches in Corpus Christi, TX. John and accompanist Vicky performed at many churches and secular programs. Friends are invited to visitation at Forest Park Westheimer home on , 5th from 4 to 8 p.m. Private burial services will be held . Obituary: Charles Chuck Pickering, 86, passed away quietly on , 14, 2016, surrounded by his loving family. He was born 5, 1930 in Tulsa, OK to the late George W. Pickering and Clara Jacobsen. He moved with his family at a young age to Victoria, Texas where his dad and grandfather worked for Barnsdall Oil. Chuck and his brother spent an active youth in Boy Scouts, swimming in the Guadalupe and hunting squirrels in Riverside Park.
Chuck had many loves in life including family, Texas A&M, and petroleum. He graduated from Victoria High School in 1948, where he played football, had fellowship with their local friends in a fraternal club and drove an old model T he kept running with bailing wire. He married his childhood sweetheart, the former Karen Dodo Krenek, also of Victoria. Chuck proudly served in the Air Force during the Korean War. He returned to be a part of the fighting Texas Aggie Class of 1957 while earning his masters degree in Petroleum Engineering. During his time at A&M, he was a member of the Corps of Cadets in the B Coastal Unit. Chuck was a diehard Aggie fan. When Texas A&M scored, Chuck would always jump out of his chair with excitement, even when he reached his 80s. This love and devotion to the Aggies was passed on to many generations. Chuck was a loving father and grandfather, an avid outdoorsman and master barbequer, he loved watching sports and spending time at the Pickering Ranch in Sabinal, Texas.
Petroleum engineering was very important to Chuck. He had the opportunity to travel to many different places to find oil. He worked for several different organizations, and retired after many long years in the industry. His last position was at C.W. Pickering, Inc. The love of oil spread all over the family and many decided to follow in his footsteps.
Chuck was married to his bride, Karen, for 62 years and they had four wonderful children, Joseph, William, Patricia, and Charles. Over the years, Chuck gained nine grandchildren, Jeffrey, Sara, Tracey, Michael, Rachel, Matthew, Malcolm, Nicholas, and Oliver, and four great-grandchildren, Tyler, Clara, Gwendolyn, and Henry. Chuck would always get his grandkids laughing by tickling them or pretending to sit on them.
Friends and family will gather for a visitation between 1 - 2 pm followed by a Service at 2:00 pm on , 17, 2016 at Colonial with Father Gabriel Franks officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park . In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to donors choice. Obituary: Betty Claire Pickering, only child of Joseph L. Cunningham and Ruth Patterson, was born in San Antonio, TX on 7, 1918, and passed away on 23, 2005. She attended schools in San Antonio and Dallas, and was an Art Major at Southern Methodist University. During World War II, she worked at the Pentagon; was an art instructor in Dallas, and a Hill Country goat rancher. She subsequently became a pioneer in educotherapy, working with children with learning disabilities from her home. It became a career that spanned over thirty-five years. BettyÂs Church activities included assisting in the development of the Dallas Episcopal parishes of St. MichaelÂs and All Angels and St. LukeÂs. Later, she became a member and teacher at St. PeterÂs Episcopal Church, Kerrville; St. LukeÂs Episcopal Church, San Antonio; and St. PaulÂs Episcopal Church, San Antonio. A talented artist, Betty created needlework and oil paintings for family and friends. As a teenager, she played the violin with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. Betty was also a member of the Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority. She is survived by a daughter, Lynne Miller; three grandsons, Scott, Jeffrey and Kenneth Miller; one great-grandson, Morgan Miller; and many honorary ÂgrandchildrenÂ, her beloved students. The family would like to thank her caregivers Susan Farmer, Roy Johnson Jr., Dora Davis, Dalia Rios, Laura Lemkowitz, Louise Kinchen and the staff of Odyssey care for the kindness and compassion extended to her well being.
