Obituary: John William Pawling, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away , 22, 2004, at the age of 91 years. His legacy is one of abiding faith and commitment to his Lord Jesus, courage, compassion and love for his family and many friends. Prior to and during the early years of his marriage, he was employed by New York Life. In 1943 he entered the Army Air Corps and served as a radio operator in Guam. In 1945 he returned to civilian life, and he and his young family established a home in Merrick, NY, where they lived until their move to San Antonio in 1987. He was employed in the oil burner business and owned a hardware store for many years. He and his family were members of The First Baptist Church of Merrick until 1987. In Texas, they were proud to call Northwest Hills Baptist Church their church home. He was preceded in death by his dear wife of 63 years, Georgina Frances Pawling. He is survived by his daughters, Penelope Eileen Chinik and husband James of Flowery Branch, GA, and Marcia Ann Foster and Todd Chapmond of Macdona, TX; grandchildren, Melissa Simmons and husband Donald, Melanie Vaneck, and Erin Hopf and husband Keenan, all of San Antonio, TX; Damon Amaya and wife Stephanie of Independence, MO; Tana Vanderslice and husband Maxwell of Greenwich, CT; Drew Foster of Macdona, TX; and seven great-grandchildren. We loved him dearly and he will be greatly missed, but we know that he is happy at last holding the hand of his only darling. A special thanks to the staff at Village Oaks at Hollywood Park for their loving care during his residency and also to the hospice group, Odyssey . She and her husband were members of The First Baptist Church of Merrick, NY until their move to San Antonio in 1987. then joined Northwest Hills Baptist Church where they served the Lord and felt very much at home. At the time of her passing, she happily resided at Village Oaks at Hollywood Park. She will be greatly missed by her family, extended family, and the many friends she loved during her lifetime. |

He graduated from Saint Thomas High School (Houston), attended Saint Edwards University and the University of Houston where he earned his B.B.A. degree. He retired as a senior accountant from CSX formerly Texas Gas Transmission. Ron was very active in the Bellaire Optimist Club and Bellaire Little League serving as President of both organizations. He was an avid Texas Longhorn and local high school sports fan. He was a member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church. Ron was a kind, generous and loving husband, father, PaPa, and son; he will be greatly missed. Ron is preceded in death by his father, Edward Peter Pawlik and mother, Pearl Ida Pawlik. He is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years Diane; sons, James and Edward and wife Alyson; grandchildren, Zachary, Madalyn and Abigail Pawlik. Obituary: Theresa (Derkowski) Pawlawski, known as Gala by her close family members, and as Nannie by all her grandkids, was born 16, 1923, and left this world to meet her God on 18, 2014. She was preceded in death by her husband Henry Pawlawski, Sr.; her parents, Joe and Sophie (Kaliszewski) Derkowski and her brothers Edward and Albine. She is survived by her children Elizabeth Nuby, Theresa Januhowski (Andrew), and Henry Pawlawski, Jr. (Mary). She also leaves her brothers, Floyd, Steve, and Bill, and sister, Angelina Gena Birkelbach. Along with many neices and nephews; 11 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren. Theresa was a caring, loving, and generous person, who after God, put her family first. She would help anyone who was in need, even if it meant sometimes doing without herself. She stayed active in her church, Assumption Catholic Church, as a member of the Catholic Daughters, the Altar Society, and other organizations, especially loved raising plants for the church bazars and festivals. She would provide p/u truckloads of flowers and plants for the plant booth, until her legs and knees would no longer allow her to do so. Probably the high-lite of her life was when she was selected as one of the finalists in the 1st million dollar drawing held in Dallas when the Texas Lotto first got started. Although she didn win the million, she loved the media attention she received. But most of all, and anyone who knew her will attest, she loved her God. She prayed the Rosary several times daily, and if you ever were in her home, you could not help but notice the boxes of religious literature by her chair. And she read every one of them and underlined items she wished to share with others. She was blessed with a happy death in which she received the last sacraments of the Church before her death. Theresa will indeed be missed by all her relatives and friends. The family will receive friends at Heights from 4:00pm until 8:00 pm on , 20, 2014. The Rosary at 5:00pm and Wake service at 6:00pm. A Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 am , 21, 2014 at Assumption Catholic Church, 901 Rose Ln. with Rev. Albert Zanatta, C.R.S. celebrant. The Rite of Committal will follow at 1:15pm, Earthman-Resthaven . Obituary: Elizabeth Laverty Pawkett, born 8, 1912 in Gadsden, AL, died , 21, 2003 in San Antonio. She was the second daughter born to Daisy Armistead and Robert Latta Laverty. She was a resident of San Antonio for over 75 years and graduated from Main Avenue High School. Mrs. Pawkett was a member of Christ Episcopal Church. Along with her late husband, Lawrence Pawkett, she had been a Charter Member of the Argyle and Oak Hills Country Club. During her active years, she was involved with a number of social and charitable organizations, including the Battle of Flowers Association and the Daughters of the American Revolution. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Margaret Hardin and Eleanor Roberts. She is survived by her daughters, Patricia Mann and Margaret Pawkett; granddaughters, Kimberly Mann of Houston, TX and Karen Sumner; great grandsons, Wil and Nicholas Sumner, all of Honolulu, HI; her brother, Robert Laverty of Versailles, France; numerous nieces and nephews with special mention of Lynn Gilbert, Mimi McGannon and Betty Cox of San Antonio. |
