Obituary: Ernold C. Patten (Pat), 95, of Houston, Texas, passed away 20, 2016. He was born in Kimball, Minnesota on 24, 1920. Pat enlisted in the United States Army in 1942 and fought in the North African campaign where he was wounded in the Battle of El Guettar, Tunisia and was awarded a Purple Heart. Pat relocated to Houston, Texas and met the love of his life, Viola. Pat had a career in industrial and auto repair. He was involved with St. Andrews Episcopal Church in the Heights for many years. He had a passion for playing keyboard, scratch offs, laughing at Pepe, fishing, carpentry, and cowboy westerns. Pat is survived by his wife Viola of 65 loving years; Children Dan Patten and wife Faye, Carol Irwin and husband David, and Marian Oenning and husband Mike; Grandchildren Jared Patten and wife Laci, Ryan Oenning and significant other Alyssa, Kayla Oenning; Great Grandchild Adalee Patten; and a very special family friend to Pops, Elva Irwin. A private family graveside service will be held , 29, 2016 at Houston National , 10410 Veterans Memorial Dr, Houston, Texas 77038 at 10:15 am. Obituary: FORT WORTH -- Alton Dale Patten,longtime Tandy Corp. Exec., passed away , Jan. 30,2016. A Memorial Service and Celebration Meal to be held , at 11:30 AM at Meadowbrook United Methodist Church in Fort Worth. Burial: Private, in Shannon Rose Hill . Visitation: evening, from 5 to 7 PM at Shannon Rose Hill . The family request donations to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research, to American Parkinson's Disease Association, or to Meadowbrook United Methodist Church, in lieu of flowers. Al called East Fort Worth home for many years. By no means did his calm and heroic battle with Parkinson's Disease at the end, overshadow the other amazing chapters in his wonderful life. Never have the hallmarks of a person's life been so clearly definable, as those in the life of Alton Dale Patten. Quite simply, his focus on faith and family, may truly be all the biographical references required. However, we will add that Al was born in Malakoff. on 18, 1933, and left to join his family and friends that preceded him, on 30, 2016. Born the 5th baby in a loving but competitive household, growing up around the coal mines of East Texas and the shipyards of Houston, around the gangs at Paschal High School, and the tough boot camp of the Army, stationed in the high desert of Fort Bliss near El Paso, he certainly was a sum of experiential variety. Let us imagine that out of some pretty tough personal times, was born the first hallmark of faith. From the hottest furnace and the stroke of the hammer comes the finest steel, but no one can do it alone, and Al's faith in God literally saved his life. The love of his young life, Caroline Sue Kennedy, married and followed him to the Army in El Paso. the honor of serving his country, Al and Sue moved back to Fort Worth, living close to and becoming immersed in the second hallmark, his family. s were spent with his sisters, brothers, nieces and nephews. Al and Sue raised sons, Rusty and Bryan, and daughter Sheryl. set about making a life for the ones they loved. Applying himself with conviction and dedication, Al, started in the warehouse for Dave and Charles Tandy, and eventually retired as the President of American Handicrafts, a Tandy Corp. subsidiary with 297 retail outlets in 47 states, and was active in the meteoric growth of Tandy Corporation's other interests, such as Radio Shack, which Tandy Corp. took from 8 stores in Boston, to grow to more than 7,000 retail facilities world wide. Amazingly, even in the Tandy Corp. days, he always found time for his church family, holding positions of leadership such as Charge Layleader, Chairman of the Staff Parish Relations Committee, Finance Chair, etc. Al was even a Scout Master for the local Boy Scouts Troop. Upon his retirement, he leveraged his experience in finance and investments, to assist many of his friends in navigating the complex paths to successful estate planning. Al garnered great satisfaction in helping others, in a variety of ways. He enjoyed many happy, satisfying years with friends in Rotary and the Eastside Optimist, serving his community. Again, that hallmark of faith was seen shining through. Al is survived by his wife of 65 years, Sue Patten; his son Rusty Patten and wife Kimberly, his son Bryan Patten; daughter, Sheryl Wood and husband Ray. Al enjoyed a host of nieces and nephews; grandchildren, John Patten and fiancé Jenna Newman, Travis Patten and wife Courtney, Abby Patten, Benjamin Wood, Carrie Wood, Kimberly Milne and husband Evan Milne, and their son, Al's beloved great-grandchild, Carson Milne. At six months old, Carson was the best Parkinson's medicine prescribed. A special thank you to the caregivers from Senior Helpers and Town Hall Estates. Thanks be to God for a life well lived. |

Obituary: Sophia Barker Pattee was born in Bozrah, Connecticut on May 7, 1926. Sophia passed away peacefully on 24, 2017 in Kingwood, Texas at the age of 91. She is preceded in death by her first husband of 43 years, Charles Barker, Jr.; her parents Phillip and Dora Kashchiy; sisters Helen Davis and Anne Chmurynski. Sophia is survived by her second husband of 22 years, Robert Pattee of Kingwood, TX; son Raymond Barker and wife Rebecca of Kingwood, TX; daughter Starr Balmer and husband Daniel of Mystic, CT; 4 grandsons, Kenny lee and wife Amy of Kerrville, TX, Spencer Balmer of Mystic, CT, Douglas Barker and wife Katherine of Cypress, TX and Darrell Barker and wife Stacie of Boerne, TC[ 2 great-granddaughters, Bonnie Lee and Briella Barker; and 2 great-grandsons, Colton Barker and Westley Barker. Sophia grew up on a small farm in Bozrah, Connecticut during the great depression. Her first eight years of school were all in a one-room schoolhouse. From there she went on to high school at Norwich Free Academy and then on to college at the University of Connecticut where she earned a bachelors degree in business administration in 1948. Shortly after graduation, Sophia was offered a position to teach elementary school, which quickly became her passion. She had a career teaching 4th grade for a total of 28 years. Sophia met her first husband, Charles Barker, in early 1949 and following a relatively short courtship was married in Bozrah, CT on 21, 1949. settled in North Stonington, CT for the next 40 years where they raised their two children. Sophia was a stay-at-home mom during her childrens preschool years but she successfully balanced her teaching career with motherhood once her children started school. Sophia and Charles retired in 1983 and remained in Connecticut until 1989 when they moved to Port Richey, Florida until Charles death in 1992. Sophia then moved to New Port Richey, FL and in 1995 married Robert Pattee. remained there until 2015 when they moved to Kingwood, TX. Sophia had many interests that included singing, traveling, reading, painting and playing bridge. Her singing experiences included singing in her church choir and participating in a musical ensemble called the New London Chorale. Over the years, she took numerous trips around the country, overseas trip t many countries and many cruises. Sophia was a prolific reader having recorded reading approximately 3000 books over the last 50 years. She had a great interest in reading about English history. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 pm on , 27, 2017 at Kingwood . |
