Obituary: Daughter of the late Gerald and Gladys Ryder, entered in a greater life 17, 2014. Survived by sons, Charlie E Parker Jr and wife Clarissa, Thomas E Parker and wife Susan, and Timothy G. Parker. Numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her siblings, sisters, Joyce Coffin and Carol Von Kampen, and brothers Robert Ryder and wife Betty and Thomas Ryder and wife Diane, and her loving nieces and nephews. Born on Nantucket Island, Massachusetts, 11, 1929. She grew up on her beloved island, and graduated from Nantucket High School. She grew up during the Great Depression, but was fortunate to live on a small farm where her parents grew bountiful crops of vegetables and fruits, and in addition raised animals for food, and dairy products. During her high school years, she became a first class Girl Scout, Senior Life Saver, and a Junior Air Raid Warden during WW2. She attended St. Pauls Church, taught church school and sang in the choir. She served as a leader in raising money for the class of 1946 to go to Washington DC, the first class to go after WW2. She met her future husband Charlie Parker during these years and they became engaged, married and moved to Texas where they made their home. She returned every year to visit her beloved family and island. their three children were old enough, Charlie helped her to accomplish her dream. She attended the University of Houston and San Jacinto in order to become a registered nurse. She worked at St. Lukes and Texas Childrens for a number of years, transferring to North Shore Hospital where she served as a recovery room nurse, operating room nurse, and later as the operating room supervisor. she retired, she was able to assist Charlie in his ministries as a Lay Eucharistic Minister attending to the home bound, transporting them to seek medical care and offering short services and communion. She was able to resume her choir duties, a love in her life. Phyllis was predeceased by her parents; husband Charlie, and, brother Maxie. Special thanks to Darrell and Wendy Walsh, Barry and Mary Hammond and Mike Van de Griff who so freely offered their continuous help. Also special thanks to the staff at Elmcroft at Rivershire and Heart to Heart Hospice for all their care and support. Visitation for Phyllis will be held on 19, 2014 from 5 to 7 pm at Metcalf Directors in Conroe. Services will be on at 3 pm at St Timothys Episcopal Church in North Shore with interment to follow in San Jacinto Memorial . The family has requested in lieu of flowers that donations be made to St Timothy memorial fund 13125 Indianapolis St Houston, Texas 77015. |

Obituary: Paul James Parker, 89, retired corporate executive and long-time Bastrop rancher, passed from this life on 9, 2016 in Austin, TX. He was born in Buda, TX to Lance and Gertrude (Costley) Parker on 24, 1927. Paul was employed by Southwestern Bell (AT&T) for 38 years and held management positions in Austin, Little Rock, Houston, Fort Worth and Dallas. He retired in 1983 from Southwestern Bell as a General Manager. During his career, he was actively involved in various civic and business groups, public affairs, and political organizations. He received honorary commissions from a governor of Texas as Admiral in the Texas Navy, and Texas Ambassador of Goodwill. He was a member of the Texas Society of Telephone Engineers and Telephone Pioneers of America. Following retirement, he was engaged in joint ventures, investments and ranching interests. Paul was a third generation Master Mason, and a life member of the W. J. Nixon Masonic Lodge in Smithville. He was also a Master of the Royal Secret of the 32nd Masonic Degree of Scottish Rite and a member of the Scottish Rite Masonic Temple of Austin. He was a Noble in the Ancient Arabic Order of Nobles of the Mystic Shrine, and a member and former unit president of the Ben Hur Shrine Temple in Austin. Besides his family and commitment to faith, a love of the outdoors, raising cattle and ranching, gun collecting and shooting, history and current events, politics, dancing, music and dabbling in the stock market were Paul's passions in life. Respected by all, he was very social, a huge flirt, charitable and generous. He set high standards for his children and grandchildren and will be sorely missed. Paul is survived by daughter, Cynthia (Don) Dick of La Grange; three grandchildren, Paige (Todd) Reed of Houston, Heather Dick of Pearland, and Michael Dick of La Grange; two great-grandsons, Parker and Preston Cheney of Houston; and numerous nieces and nephews. Paul was married for 71 years to his beloved wife, Mildred (Millie) who preceded him in death by just 23 days. Sadly, they were not able to spend much time together during the last year due to medical issues, but now they are together again for all eternity. Additionally, Paul is predeceased by his parents, four sisters, and one brother. Private interment was held at Oak Hill , Smithville. Masonic burial rites were administered by the brethren of W. J. Nixon Masonic Lodge, Smithville. |
