Obituary: Feb. 9, 1947 - Dec. 16, 2015

Jerry Wayne Pate was born in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, on 9, 1947. He graduated from Tuscaloosa High School in 1965, where he met his high school sweetheart Brenda West. were married in 1967. He earned his bachelors degree from The University of Alabama in 1969 and began working in sales. Jerry later moved to Birmingham, eventually founding Ener-Dyne Inc in 1980, where he was owner and president for over 35 years. He and his wife regularly attended several churches in the Birmingham area and were members of First Christian Church. He pursued many hobbies and activities, including golfing, boating, and aviation, earning his private pilots license in 1986.

Jerry was a huge Crimson Tide fan and supporter. He took his family to many regular season and bowl games, including the 1992, 2009, 2011, and 2012 national title games. He always enjoyed tailgating and sharing stories of the Crimson Tides glory.

He was the best son, husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, and friend anyone could ever dream of. He was always there to shower love on his children as he listened, guided, and comforted. Despite his busy work and travel schedule, he never missed a piano recital, a soccer game, or a ballet program. As a beloved Papa to his granddaughters Emmy and Ella, he was always available as caregiver, chauffeur, and playmate. One of Papas favorite jobs was taking the girls to Brusters Ice Cream. He enjoyed life to the fullest but was also the most generous person we ever knew, giving freely of his time, money, and energy to anyone in need. He trusted Jesus Christ as his personal savior, which spilled over into every aspect of his life. The memories, which are beyond number, will last forever. He was not only loved by many, he also loved many. As dear family and friends we mourn together, but we look forward to the day we will see him again in heaven.

He is survived by his wife, Brenda West Pate; son, Randolph Pate of Arlington, Virginia; daughter, Ashley Pate Garrett (Adam) of Hoover; sisters, Rita Pate Simmons and Sherry Pate Hallman; and granddaughters, Emelia Garrett and Eleanor Garrett.
