Obituary: John passed away in Portland Oregon 28 following a courageous three-year battle with cancer. John Floyd Palmer was born in Alice, Texas to parents Albert Floyd and Josephine Elizabeth (Buxkemper) Palmer on 30, 1944. His young family relocated to Cottage Grove, Oregon shortly after Johns birth. John was the first of seven children. He was brother to Robert, James, William, Patci, Jean, and Joe. His father Albert worked in the logging industry and as a young man, John worked alongside his father as a logger. He attended and graduated from Cottage Grove High School. Following high school, John attended the University of Oregon where he lettered as a gymnast and earned his bachelors degree. college, John enlisted in the US Navy during the Vietnam War era. In Vietnam, John served as a Naval Hospital Corpsman an operating room technician. his time in Vietnam, John returned to Cottage Grove. He married Marolyn Attebury in of 1972 and in 1973 the two were blessed with twin daughters Suzanne and Stefanie. Not long after the girls were born, the young family moved to Portland, Oregon and John went to work as an operating room technician at Legacy Meridian Park Hospital. In 1977, John and Marolyn Separated. John spent the majority of his working life in the medical field. He was an operating room technician later an operating room manager. that, he owned his own medical services business in the area of pain management. Later John worked in production for the information / technology industry. In 1997, John was working in production for Epson. His close co-worker had a cousin in Cambodia that he insisted John meet. repeated encouragement from his co-worker, John sent a letter and a picture to Chharathdy Pel in Cambodia. She in turn responded with a letter and photo - thus beginning a truly lovely relationship. In 1998, John travelled to Cambodia and two were married. In 1999, Chharathdy came to be with John and Portland. spent nearly 16 wonderful years together and Dy was the love and light of Johns life. The two were so wonderful together and enjoyed each others companionship so much. John was a life-long Catholic and was a devoted and involved member of St. Pius X church and later Holy Rosary. John will be remembered as an encouraging role model and a man with a larger than life personality and presence. He loved to laugh and he had a great sense of humor. He was someone who encouraged others to do better today than yesterday; he was an advocate for self-improvement. John cared deeply for his fellow human being and gave of himself to others. He donated his time and money to monthly to many organizations and John made it a mission in life to help care for those less fortunate. It has been said that John always wanted to be a father. He was an involved, devoted, and loving father to Suzanne and Stefanie and even after his daughters were grown, he ever stopped being a dad. In his leisure time, John enjoyed hiking in the Oregon outdoors. He especially enjoyed visiting waterfalls. John also enjoyed photography and earlier in life he was a cross-country skier. John was a loving son; brother; husband; father; grandfather; great-grandfather; uncle; and friend and he will be missed so much by all who knew him. He is survived by his loving wife Chharathdy Dy; daughters, Suzanne Palmer and Stefanie Fleming (husband Derrick); parents, Albert and Josephine Palmer; brothers, Bob, Jim, Father Bill, and Joe Palmer; sisters, Patci Rouse, and Jean Bunny Gibson; grandchildren, Haley Shankle, Tyler Palmer, Patrick Church, and Asia Gordon; great-grandbaby Zoe Palmer; step children, Ket Bun Makara, Ket Bun Sokha, and Ket Bun Lakina; and 7 step grandchildren. A chapel memorial service was held at Skyline Memorial Gardens & , 4101 NW Skyline Blvd. of Oregon on , May 1, 2015, at 1pm. John will be privately laid to rest in Willamette National of Happy Valley, Oregon Remembrances may be made to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital (www.stjude.org), Wounded Warrior Project (www.woundedwarriorproject.org), or to the charitable organization of your choice.
