Obituary: Richard James Proebstle (Dick) died on May 17th, 2012 at the Peabody Retirement Community in N. Manchester, IN. He was 69 years old. Dick was the second son of three boys born to Helen and Leonard Proebstle and is survived by his two brothers, John and Jim, his two children, Patty and Mike, and three grandchildren, Andrew, Erin and Ellie. He was loved and cared for greatly by his family and close friends. His passing was peaceful, with immediate family at his bedside throughout the process. His diagnosis was related to Parkinsons and Dementia. His brain has been donated to Boston University where leading research is being conducted on the cause of chronic traumatic encephalopathy or CTE dementia. Dick grew up with a father who demonstrated the benefits of knowledge, hard work and study, and a mother who provided nurturing and loving care. lived in the Crescent Gardens area of Massillon during Dicks grade school yearsand at Lake Cable in N. Canton during the Central Catholic HS years. As an Explorer Scout he honed his skills as a capable outdoorsman in camping, fishing, hunting, canoeing and conservation, while experiencing a deep fondness and respect for nature throughout life. Dick always worked hard to be the best, which kindled the fire of a competitive spirit that sparked the beginning of his many successes, accolades and awards in athletics, student government, and business the rest of his life. While the list of Dicks achievements goes on, some include: an honor roll student, student council president, being the first high school athlete in Ohio to letter four years each in football, basketball and baseball, being the QB for a nationally ranked Michigan State University (MSU)football team, graduated from MSU with a degree in Business, received numerous sales awards at IBM and NML, received significant dealer awards as the owner of Mid-States Equipment, and was inducted into the Stark High School Football Hall of Fame (Class 2011). Dick capitalized on the opportunity to become president and owner of Mid-States Equipment, a successful lift trucks and Bobcat equipment dealership, in Canton, Ohio serving northern Ohio for over three decades. Throughout life he loved navigating the Great Lakes and Inter-coastal Waterwaysof FL and enjoyed being on the water at Leech Lake in MN. Dick was also an avid snow skier and loved being outdoors in the winter. He would often get up early after a snow storm to plow the neighbors walkways and driveways before his own. He relished in the satisfaction of unexpected acts of kindness. He also loved a good game of racquetball, tennis, golf and horseshoes—anything involving a little friendly competition.Regardless of all the awards, accolades and accomplishments that would seemingly attempt to define his character; he was most happy being with family and enjoying the simple things in life. He was most comfortable at home working hard in the yard and developing his land. Calling hours will be held at Reed Canton Chapel at 705 Raff Road SW Canton, OH 44710 from 6-8 pm on , 1st. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joan of Arc Church on , 2nd at 10:00am with Rev. Fr. Robert Kaylor as Celebrant. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
