Obituary: Charles Pappalardo, 79, died on 12, 2015 at North Shore University Hospital, Manhasset NY, surrounded by his adoring wife and children. Born 17, 1936 in Brooklyn NY, he was the son of Alfio and Margaret (Costa) Pappalardo. Charlie served honorably in the United States Air Force from 1955 to 1959, and was a resident of Queens Village for nearly six decades, where he met and married his wife Thea on 7, 1963. He was an advertising Print Production Manager, retiring from Lord Dentsu & Co. in 2001. He is survived by his wife Thea; his children, Linda Pappalardo and Beth Ann Rose, Roy and Paula Pappalardo, Scott and Danielle Pappalardo, and Laura and Jonathan Jones; his brother-in-law Edwin Spahn, who he helped to raise as one of his own; his four grandchildren, Thomas and Jessica Pappalardo and Michael and Erin Jones; and his younger sister, Rose Whitson. He leaves behind his dog Molly, who will miss him dearly. An animal lover, Charlie was particularly passionate about horses. He was a lifelong cowboy, from cradle to grave. An accomplished horseman, he went on cattle drives out West, rode in amateur rodeos, and owned a small dude ranch. He was supremely happy whenever on or near a horse; but he was happiest when he was with his family. Charlie was adored by his all who knew him. will miss his easy smile, his wonderful laugh, his great sense of humor, his gentle nature and sincerity. There will never be another quite like him. Obituary: PAPPALARDO, Charles on 27, 2015 of Bayside, New York and East Quogue, Long Island. Beloved husband of Annette for 72 wonderful years. Loving father of Carole Pappalardo (Dennis Ross), David C. Pappalardo (Kathleen Werther), Nancy Bishop (David) and the late Jayne Pappalardo. Cherished grandfather of 10 and great grandfather of 6. He was born in the Bronx in 1918 to Antonino and Maria Pappalardo, who immigrated to the USA from Pedara, Sicily circa 1905. He graduated from Dewitt Clinton High School and then graduated from City of New York (CCNY). In his youth, he enjoyed the Long Island Sound and the Bayville beaches along with his sisters, Marie and Joan. He met his wife Annette in 1942 at a USO in Staten Island and they were married that year on 28. He was commissioned as a US Army Lieutenant in May of 1942 and in early 1943 shipped out to North Africa and was attached to the British 8th Army. His service in WWII then took him to Sicily where he set up military/civil affairs governments in town after town as the war waged on. Ultimately, his service took him to the mainland of Italy. In 1946, he separated from active duty followed by 30 plus years as a US Army Reserve Officer and retired in 1978 at the rank of Colonel. Following the war, he returned to his academic pursuits earning multiple Masters Degrees from Columbia University while returning to his former post with the City University of New York. His academic career spanned four decades including nearly 20 years as Professor and Library Director at Queensborough Community . He enjoyed the peace and solitude of fishing on Shinnecock Bay, even when the bounty was small. His family will always be grateful for his wise decision to purchase a summer home in East Quogue in 1951, where the children and his wife Annette spent the summers enjoying the ocean beaches and the great outdoor character of Long Islands South Fork. Charles and Annette truly treasured travelling the world together. Their adventures took them through Europe, the Middle East, Asia and Hawaii. Reposing at O.B. Obituary: Pappalardo, Annette C. on May 15, 2015 of East Quogue, Long Island. Beloved wife of the late Col. Charles Pappalardo. Loving mother of Carole Pappalardo (Dennis Ross), David C. Pappalardo (Kathleen Werther), Nancy Bishop (David) and the late Jayne Pappalardo. Cherished grandmother of 10 and great grandmother of 6. Dear sister of Chrissie Solberg (Finn). Annette was born in Staten Island, NY in 1924 to Michael and Anna Canary. In her youth, she enjoyed basketball, ice-skating, dancing and going to the picture shows with her sister Chrissie. She met her husband, Charles, in 1942 at the USO in Staten Island. were married that year on 28th after a whirlwind courtship of 3 months. She and her husband settled in Bayside, NY to raise their four children. Annette was very active in her childrens education at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament school and was very proud to serve as the President of the Rosary Society. She was also very involved in the Reserved Officers Womans Association, the Womans Club of Riverhead and the Red Hatters. She loved putting on fashion shows for these organizations starting in the early 1950s. Annette was a real fashion diva. She also worked in purchasing at York for many years. Family and friends meant everything to Annette and she was happiest when everyone was together. She was a true care giver, always there for her children and grandchildren. She was a loving, kind and generous grandmother. Holidays were very important to her, from trips to the city to see Santa at Macys (her favorite store), dressing up for Halloween and making heart shaped cakes for Valentines Day. In 1951, she and her husband Charles bought a home in East Quogue where she and the children spent their summers at the beach, swimming and enjoying the company of her many friends. Annette and Charles traveled the world together. Their adventures took them to places like Europe, the Middle East, Asia and most of the United States including Hawaii and Alaska. Obituary: STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Native Staten Islander Angelo Joseph (AJ) Pappalardo, 40, of Manhattan, a restaurateur who loved his family and life, died at home. Born and raised in Grymes Hill, he graduated from LaSalle Military Academy, Oakdale, L.I., and attended Manhattan , the Bronx. Mr. Pappalardo studied at The Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, N.Y. He worked at Joe & Pat's, the well-known Island pizzeria and family-owned business in Castleton Corners. Later, with his father, Giuseppe, he owned and operated Rubirosa, a Manhattan restaurant, for four years. He lived in Dongan Hills briefly before settling in Manhattan. Mr. Pappalardo enjoyed traveling. A loving son, brother and uncle to his niece, Ginger Fe, he enjoyed spending time with his family. While living on the Island, Mr. Pappalardo was a parishioner of Our Lady of Good Counsel R.C. Church, Tompkinsville. In Manhattan, he attended St. Patrick's R.C. Church. Surviving, along with his father, Giuseppe, are his mother, Lena Pappalardo, and his sister, Maria Pappalardo. The funeral will be from the Casey , Castleton Corners, with a mass at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Good Counsel Church. Entombment will follow in Moravian , New Dorp. |
