Obituary: Old Town - Francis Preble passed away peacefully at the age of 85, surrounded by his family in the early morning hours of 14, 2017. He was born in Old Town on 30, 1931, to Frank and Lillian Preble. Francis is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Charline (Beaulieu) Preble; and by his children, Allyson Westura and her husband, Patrick; and their children, Bradley and Olivia of Old Town, Thomas Preble and his wife, Susan, and their children, Lilian, Juliann and Elizabeth of Bradley, David Preble and his wife, Sherry, and their children, Isaac and Matthew of Milford, and Christopher Preble of Old Town. He is also survived by his two sisters, Mary Preble and Theresa Preble; niece, Theresa Garrity; nephews, Daniel Baillargeon and Peter Baillargeon; and cousin Noreen White. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by one sister, Betty Baillargeon; and two brothers, Henry Preble and James Preble. Dad graduated from Old Town High School in 1949 and upon graduation joined the U.S. Army. When he returned home, he attended the University of Maine and earned his Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration. Soon after, he began a long and successful career in the banking industry. Often referred to as "The Banker," Dad helped hundreds of families realize their dreams of owning a home. His career started at Bangor Savings and Loan, in the early 80s he moved to United Bank in Bangor, and finally finished his career in his hometown as the Branch Manager at Key Bank in Old Town. Dad was very active in his community. He served on the Old Town City Council and was Mayor of Old Town for one term, he served on the Old Town Housing Authority and spearheaded efforts to create elderly and low income housing in Old Town, he was a life member of the Old Town Elks Lodge BPOE and was past Exaulted Ruler and District Deputy. Dad was also a 4th Degree Knight in the Old Town Knights of Columbus, and served of the Board of Directors of EMMC and the James Taylor Osteopathic Hospital. He served on the Parish Council at St. Joseph Catholic Church and was a faithful member of Holy Family Parish. As he did with his career, he excelled at being a husband and father. His love was unconditional and will live on through his wife, his children and grandchildren. Dad had a wonderful sense of humor, he was witty and smart. He loved to teach his grandchildren catchy songs from his past and always made them laugh. His life was busy, but never too busy to attend ball games, band concerts, or whatever activity his children were involved in. He referred to us as "the kids" and he made sure that every one of our needs were met, always. Dad never left a job unfinished. He was responsible, respectful, capable, funny and caring. Dad had many interests and hobbies including playing cribbage, he was a fantastic player and you only beat him if he allowed you to. We gathered as a family often when he made his special spaghetti and meatballs, and our holidays were always special when he helped Mom in the kitchen. We looked forward to our fishing trips with Dad every year, our favorite place was East Grand Lake, catching the fish never really mattered, spending time together always did. We'll especially remember our trip to Lake Ontario to celebrate his 70th birthday. He liked to golf and spend time at the family camp at Pushaw Lake. The good times and good stories are too numerous to print, but they'll stay with us forever. The family would like to thank the staff of Orono Commons for their compassion and love. In lieu of flowers, our family encourages you to spend a day with someone you love. Friends may call 5-7 p.m. at the Birmingham , 438 Main St., Old Town. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. at Parish of the Resurrection, Holy Family Church, Old Town. Interment will be at St. Joseph , Old Town. Immediately following the service, all are invited to return to the Parish Hall for a light luncheon and continued fellowship. |
