Obituary: Sally Woodcock Pierce, 98, of Falmouth, died on 13, 2017 after a brief illness. She resided at Falmouth House of Ocean View since 2014. Born in New York City on 22, 1919 to Dr. Allan Woodcock and Priscilla Crosby Woodcock, she grew up in Bangor. She graduated from Bangor High School, Manhattanville in New York City, and from the Katharine Gibbs School. She worked briefly in Boston before marrying Jotham Donnell Pierce of Portland in 1942. Following his service in World War II, they moved to the Portland area. Mr. Pierce died in 1990. Having studied the piano for over 40 years, she began studying the cello at age 47. She played in a string quartet and attended summer string quartet workshops run by the Portland String Quartet. She played in the Midcoast Symphony Orchestra until she was 89. For about 30 summers, she vacationed with various family members in Santa Fe, New Mexico to attend performances of the Santa Fe Opera, which was founded by her cousin John Crosby. She read widely in American and European fiction classics, with a particular fondness for Evelyn Waugh. A devout Catholic, she treated others with interest, sensitivity, and kindness. She had a close and distinct relationship with each of her six children, their spouses, and her 13 grandchildren. She cared about style and was always a gracious lady. She was predeceased by her husband, Jotham, and by her brothers, John and Allan Jr. of Bangor. She is survived by her children: Jotham and his wife Carol of Santa Rosa, CA; Deborah Nicklas and her husband David of Falmouth; Christopher and his wife Nancy of Cumberland Foreside; Priscilla Bass and her husband John of Portland and Birmingham, AL; James and his wife Polly of Cumberland Foreside; and Marianna of Cambridge, MA. She is survived by 13 grandchildren: Katherine (Jotham and Carols child); Charlotte and Paul (Deborah and Davids children); Christopher Jr., Edward, Richard, and Leonard (Chris and Nancys children); James and Lucy (Priscilla and Johns children); Jotham, Anne, Caroline, and Ellen (James and Pollys children); and their spouses. She is also survived by 13 great-grandchildren; by 28 nephews and nieces; and by her Belgian daughter Ria Peuskens, who was an AFS student with the Pierce family in 1962-63. The family would like to thank the helpers from Partners who cared for her for both at her home and at Falmouth House, the staff at Falmouth House, and the staff at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Midcoast Symphony Orchestra, P.O. Box 86, Brunswick, ME, midcoastsymphony.org, or to the Santa Fe Opera, 301 Opera Drive, Santa Fe, NM 87506-2823, santafeopera.org, or to a charity of your choice. Visiting hours will be held at Jones, Rich & Hutchins , 199 Woodford Street, Portland on , 16, 2017 from 3:00-5:00 pm. Obituary: Born Nancy Louise Moses, born 2nd 1923 in Dexter, Maine to Mary Louise Knowles and Charles Thomas Moses Jr. She grew up in Dexter and graduated from Dexter High School as Valedictorian and National Honor Society member. She went on to attend the University of Maine and graduated Phi Betta Kappa. She then enjoyed her position as English Teacher at Hamden Academy, Hamden, Maine. Nancy married Floyd R. Beecher in 1947 and moved to Portland, Maine where she helped her husband establish The Beecher Agency Real Estate company in 1949. later moved to Cape Elizabeth, Maine were they lived for many years and raised their two children. Nancy was very active in her community including Volunteering on the Board Of Park Danforth, the Junior League of Portland, State Street Church ,and the Cape Elizabeth Garden Club. She was an avid tennis player and talented gardener. In 1972 she married her second husband Dwight W. Pierce of Cape Elizabeth, Maine. shared their life in Cape Elizabeth and were always surrounded by wonderful friends and extended family. loved entertaining, traveling, spending time with their children and grandchildren, The Portland Symphony, local theatre, taking walks with their Collie dog Dundee and extended summer vacations at Popham Beach. also enjoyed many winters in Fort Meyers, Florida where they played tennis and golf with their Maine friends and family. Nancy was known to be very welcoming and always approaching life looking at the bright side. She was selfless and most generous. If someone spoke disparagingly of a mutual acquaintance she could be heard to say She always spoke highly of you . Dwight passed in 2007, she left Cape Elizabeth to relocate in Scarborough, Maine. She enjoyed her new home at Scarborough Terrace where she felt very comfortable and safe. She passed gracefully on the evening of , 20th, 2012 surrounded by her loving family. She is predeceased by her older brother Carl K. Moses of Darien, Connecticut. She is survived by her daughter: Mary Ann Beecher Saxby and her Husband Kenneth Johnson of Buxton, her son: Bruce R. Beecher and wife Janet of Scarborough, and her grandsons :Thomas R. Saxby, and Page A. Beecher and granddaughter Christine L. Beecher, step-daughters Polly Pierce Morgenstern of Colorado, Abigail Pierce Vogler of California and their children and grand children . She will be interred with Dwight at the Cape Elizabeth Riverside . Nancy's family wishes to welcome family and friends to a reception and celebration of her life at the Jones, Rich & Hutchins , 199 Woodford St, Portland on , 22, 2012 from 12 - 2 PM.
