Obituary: Harry W. Platter, age 89 years, passed away on , 7, 2014 at his home in Metairie, LA. Beloved husband of Gerdean M. Platter for 66 years; father of Susan P. DalBello (Patrick), and Sandra P. Denny (Otway); grandfather of Elizabeth, Sandra, and Patricia DalBello, Laura McAuliffe (Edward), Rebecca Denny, and Otway Denny; great grandfather of Cecilia McAuliffe. Mr. Platter was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert Lingo Platter, Sr. and Lynne Wooten Platter, and his brother, H. Lingo Platter, Jr. (the late Patricia). Mr. Platter served his country in the United States Navy during the Second World War. He received a degree in Civil Engineering from the University of New Mexico and worked for Exxon throughout his entire career. He was a member of St. Martin’s Episcopal Church of Metairie, LA and a former member of the Pendennis Club of New Orleans, Metairie Country Club, and the Alexis Carnival Club. He was a devoted supporter and season ticket holder of the New Orleans Saints since the inception of the franchise. All services are being held privately. Obituary: Gerdean Mattingly Platter passed away in her Metairie home surrounded by family on , 10, 2016. She was born on 16, 1924 in Corsicana, Texas. She is survived by her two daughters, Susan DalBello (Patrick) and Sandra Denny (Otway); her grandchildren, Elizabeth, Sandra, and Patricia DalBello; Laura McAuliffe (Edward), Rebecca Denny, and Otway Denny; and her great-grandchildren, Cecilia and Margaret McAuliffe. Gerdean was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Harry Wooten Platter. She graduated from Texas Women’s with a degree in Mathematics. She worked at Humble Oil , where she met her husband, Harry. were transferred from Texas to Louisiana in the early 1950’s and never left. Over the years, they lived in New Orleans, Grand Isle, Port Sulfur, Gretna, and Metairie. Gerdean had a larger-than-life personality and a true zest for life. She enjoyed Mardi Gras, holidays, playing bridge, wild flowers, and, most importantly, spending time with her family. She turned every event, from family vacations in the Caribbean to simple shopping trips with her grandchildren, into unforgettable adventures. She was a member of St. Martin’s Episcopal Church and the Women’s Guild. The family wishes to express sincere gratitude to her three caregivers, who looked after Gerdean and Harry so well in their home in the final years of their lives. Services are being held privately. |

Obituary: SFC Lee A. Platt U.S. Army (Retired) Bossier City, LA- Lee Platt passed away on , May 9, 2011 after a long battle with Alzheimers. He was born 29, 1946 in Rutland, VT, the son of Lee and Irene Platt. Lee was a 1962 graduate of Windsor High School in Windsor, VT. He proudly served his country in the US Army, in the Signal Corp for 22 years before retiring in 1989. During which he served two tours in Vietnam, and many years in Germany. Lee was preceded in death by his wife of 35 years Sandra Lee Dorey Platt . He is survived by daughter, Laurie Carlton Getchell of Manchester, CT; two sons, Jeff Carlton of East Hartford, CT, Bill and wife Terrie Platt of Bossier City, LA; and two grandchildren, Katherine and Mitch. He is also survived by 5 siblings - Donald Platt of CT, Martha Platt of VT, Lynne Garrison of NH, Roderick Parker of FL, and Thea King of WI, along with a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews. There will be a private Memorial Service for Lee on , 20, 2011at 7:00PM at the Jubilee Tabernacle of The Full Gospel Interdenominational Church, 16 Brainard Place, Manchester, CT. In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to the Northwest Louisiana War Veterans , the Alzheimers Association, or the charity of the donors choice. Obituary: Starks- Gladys Platt, 84, died , 17, 2011, in a local hospital. She was a native and longtime resident of Starks where she was a member of First Baptist Church of Starks. Survivors include three sons, Gary Platt and wife, Julianna of Orange, Texas, Danny Platt and wife, Debbie of Mauriceville, Texas, and Steven Platt and wife, Donna of Sulphur; three siblings, James Ray Johnson of Starks, Helen Meadows of Beaumont, Texas, and Mary Rasberry of Quitman; three grandchildren, Shawn Platt and wife, Kristy, Cheyne Platt and wife, Cindy, and Amber Platt; and one great-grandchild, Laney Platt. She is preceded in death by her husband, Lathen George Platt. Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. today in First Baptist Church of Starks. The Revs. Chris DuBose and Nicholas Coleman will officiate. Burial will be in Doyle under the direction of Hixson of Vinton. |
