Obituary: Arthur Joseph Picou, age 80 passed away 10, 2015. He was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on 23, 1935. Arthur J. Picou was a proud alumnus of Holy Cross High School and attended the Conservatory of Music where he studied trumpet and music theory. It was there that he met the love of his life; his beloved wife Janet Snelling Picou of 61 years. Arthur operated and managed businesses in the transportation and automotive industries, but his real passion was as a lifelong musician who had a natural talent for music. Arthur played the trumpet in the U.S. 4th Army Band, which was staffed with some of Americas finest musicians during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. produced radio shows in the 1950s such as the Concert in Khaki and the Fourth Army Show; the 4th Army Band was very effective in enhancing the Army's image during the 1950s and 1960s. He continued sharing his love of music as a member of the New Orleans Civic Symphony, The American Legion Post 175 Band, The New Orleans Brass Choir, Crescent City Wind Symphony, The New Orleans Concert Band, and the Ken Veca Big Band. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, an avid Tulane fan and enjoyed ballroom dancing with his wife. He is preceded in death by his parents, Arthur Necer Picou and Rosalie Taravella Picou. He is survived by his wife Janet, and five children: Jon Daniel Picou (Margaret), Judith Picou Pruitt (Edwin), Donna Picou Gautreau (Rene) Michael Dean Picou and David Louis Picou (Meredith). He was the grandfather to Danny, Stephanie, David, Elizabeth, Jon, Paul, Jennifer, William and Caroline and great-great grandfather to Antonio & Chloe. The family would especially like to thank Covenant for the special care they gave Arthur. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation at Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church, 1228 S. Carrollton Ave. in New Orleans on , 14, 2015 beginning at 9:30 AM with a Mass to follow at 11:00 AM. Interment to follow will be private.
