Obituary: Memorial services will be held , 19, 2014, at 9:30 AM at Iberts Mortuary in Franklin for JoAnn Granger Peterson, 60, a Franklin native and longtime resident of Opelousas, who passed away , 16, 2014, at 10:10 PM at Opelousas General Hospital. Rev. Kirk Comeaux, Associate Pastor of Living Faith Church in Youngsville, will officiate the memorial service. A gathering of family and friends will be held at Iberts Mortuary beginning at 8:00 AM and continuing until time of service. A private inurnment will be held at a later date. Survivors include two brothers, Tex Granger and his wife Marcia of New Iberia, and Larry Granger and his wife LaNell of Lafayette; one sister, Shirley G. Legnon and her husband Patrick of Baldwin; three aunts, Hazel Delcambre and Bernadette Paul, both of Franklin, and Stella Landry of New Iberia; as well as nine nieces; four nephews; three great nieces, and five great nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Josephine Charpentier Granger and Alex P. Granger; as well as numerous aunts and uncles. Obituary: JESSEE PETERSON, 96 OAK GROVE, LOUISIANA Cox Oak Grove, Louisiana OAK GROVE, LA - Graveside services for Mr. Jessee Peterson, 96, of Oak Grove, Louisiana will be held at 1 PM, , May 23, 2015, at the False River Memorial Park and Mausoleum in New Roads, Louisiana. Memorial services will be held at 2 PM on , 7, 2015 at Cox Chapel in Oak Grove, Louisiana. Reverend Paul Hunter will officiate. Services are under the direction of Cox of Oak Grove. Mr. Peterson passed away , May 17, 2015 at Carroll in Oak Grove, Louisiana. Mr. Peterson was born in New Orleans, Louisiana. He was reared on a dairy and sweet potato farm in Washington Parish. He graduated from Franklinton High School in 1938 and went on to receive his Bachelor of Science degree in animal husbandry from Southwestern Louisiana Institute, Lafayette in 1943 and a Master of Science degree in horticulture from Louisiana State University in 1945. He joined the LSU Cooperative Extension Service as assistant county agent at the Oak Grove office in 1945 and was appointed West Carroll Parish Agent in 1949 until his retirement in 1980. During his years as county agent, he was active in organizing the West Carroll Produce Association. Mr. Peterson was a member of the National Agents Association, and he was honored to be awarded the Distinguished Service Award of the National Association of Agricultural Agents in 1967. A leading accomplishment by Mr. Peterson included his leadership in getting a modern dial telephone system for the parish. In recognition for the many contributions he made in the advancement of the sweet potato crop and agriculture in general in West Carroll Parish, he was selected to portray the role Mr. Yam, the symbol of the Louisiana yam industry at the 1972 Yambilee Festival in Opelousas. He was a member of the Oak Grove Lions Club, the West Carroll Farm Bureau, and the West Carroll Parish Cattlemens Association. He is preceded in death by his wife, Alice Elizabeth Cazayoux Peterson; his parents, Oscar Hunter Peterson and Eveline Bond Peterson; and 3 brothers, Oscar Isidore Peterson, Lief Peterson and Charles Peterson. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Cathy Peterson Chick and Randy Chick of Fayetteville, Arkansas; grandson, Jonathan Chick of Fayetteville; granddaughter, Zoe Chick of Fayetteville and his brother, Eric Peterson of Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil. |
