Obituary: Ted Paris, a legend in Vernon Parish education, lost a courageous 2 ½ year battle with pancreatic cancer on , 25, 2010 at home surrounded by his loving family. Ted (Coach) Paris was born on 22, 1934 to C.E. (Buddy) and Anne Sibley Paris in Leesville, LA. He graduated from Leesville High School where he excelled in academics and sports. His success in football earned him an athletic scholarship to L.S. U. in 1952. He was the first all-state football player from L.H.S. and the first to ever play college football. Ted was a starting linebacker and center for the Tigers for four years, playing both offense and defense with an average of 57 minutes per game. He earned a B.S. degree from L.S.U., an M.Ed. from Northwestern State University, and an Educational Specialist from L.S.U. He returned to Leesville after earning his Bachelors degree to teach mathematics and coach. During his 32 years as an educator in Vernon Parish, Coach Paris served as head coach/athletic director at L.H.S. leading his beloved Wampus Cats to their first district title in 1963. Ted was named district Coach of the Year. He served in several administrative positions during his career in education. He was principal of Leesville High School, Director of the Vernon er and finally, principal of East Leesville Elementary School where he served for many years before retiring in 1988. During the time he was an administrator he also taught mathematics in the adult education department of Vernon Parish and to the military personnel in the U.S.A.F.I. program. retiring from teaching in Louisiana, he taught mathematics in Burkeville, Texas for five years and at Barbe High School in Lake Charles. Coach Paris organized an implemented the first summer youth program for Vernon Parish in the summer of 1957. He served as the first commissioner of that program for four years. The program is still active today. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Leesville for over 60 years. He served the Lord faithfully as a Bible teacher and deacon. For the past four years, he has been a member of Moss Bluff First Baptist Church. Ted read the Bible completely through eight times. He said he learned something different every time he read it. Ted was active in civic affairs and parish government. In 1979 Ted was elected to the Vernon Parish Policy Jury where he served a four year term. In 1998 he was elected to the Vernon Parish School Board and served a four year term. During his life he was a member of the Jaycees, the Rotary Club, and the N.H. Bray Masonic Lodge. Ted was an avid sports fan. Of course his favorite teams were the Wampus Cats, L.S.U. Tigers, New Orleans Saints, and the Southeastern Lions where his grandson, Marshall, plays football as the starting left guard. His passion for and success in athletics was due to his competitive spirit. He loved playing games and dominoes with friends and his grandkids. He seldom lost a game of dominoes. One of his favorite sayings was A good loser is still a loser. Another favorite activity was drinking coffee with his ROMEO (Retired Old Men Eating Out) buddies in Leesville. Ted was a man of integrity, a kind and loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. His quick wit and great sense of humor made him a pleasure to be with. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends. Our loss is Heavens gain. Ted is survived by his wife Sherry of 55 years; son Rev. Michael Paris and wife Ruthie of Moss Bluff; daughter, Dr. Nita A. Paris of Acworth, Georgia; grandson, Marshall Paris of Hammond; granddaughter, Mandy DuBose and husband Jake of Ragley; grandson, Matthew Paris and wife and great grandson Blace Dever Paris all of Lake Charles; sister, Betty Cantrell and brother-in-law Travis of Jonesboro, Georgia. Obituary: A Celebration of Life Service will be held for Barney McKinley Paris, Jr. on , 5, 2015 at Hill Crest Memorial Chapel at 11:00 a.m. Dr. Randy Harper will be officiating the service. Interment will follow at Hill Crest Memorial Park with military honors. The family will be receiving friends on , 5, 2015 at Hill Crest Memorial Chapel from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. Barney McKinley Paris, Jr., age 85, of Bossier City, LA, passed away from this earth into eternity on 2, 2015. He was born to the late Barney and Erthel Paris in Healdton, OK on 20, 1929. He married Norma Jean Lewis on 17, 1957. Barney had a noble work ethic. a lengthy career with Conoco, he became a zone manager for Monroe Auto, regularly receiving high recognition and awards for his superior performance. Compassionate about community service, he enthusiastically volunteered his time and resources to multiple organizations, such as OU alumnae, Alpha Sigma Phi, Shriners Hospital, Masonic Lodge, as well as anyone who needed an extra pair of helping hands. A longtime member of the David School class at Bellaire Baptist church, Barney was a man of God, his strong faith evident in every aspect of his life. Barney found joy working in his yard, usually accompanied by a devoted family dog. His trademark gardening outfit was blue jean shorts, colorful suspenders, and a straw hat. This gardening passion was passed on to his first born, Kathy, while his youngest daughter, Cindy, inherited his wanderlust and taste for adventure. Many accolades could be given to the man we call Dad, but what stands out the most is that he simply adored his family; always putting them first and providing for them with comfort, support, and love. To his sweetheart, Norma Jean, he was a doting husband, excellent provider, and tireless caretaker. To his three children, he was a champion. Barney, however, will most likely be remembered by most for his effervescent personality, bursting with friendly exuberance and goodwill. One conversation and you were his friend for life. Few people had his narrative ability. His stories-witty, entertaining, and educational -enthralled anyone lucky enough to be listening. Those precious tales will be missed as much as the man who told them - a man larger than life. On 29, 2015, Barney buried Norma Jean, his wife of 57 years. Exactly one week later, he died of a broken heart. What a love story! What a reunion! Barney is survived by his daughter, Kathy Paris Willis (Mike) of Houston, TX, daughter, Cynthia Paris Bickham (Alan) of Blanchard, LA, grandson, Michael Willis of Houston, TX, and bonus grandchildren, David, Kimberly, and Bryce Woodruff of Shreveport, LA. His son, Barney McKinley Paris III, age 12, preceded him in death and joyfully welcomed him to heaven. Barney personally requested that donations be made to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital and Shriners Hospital. Pallbearers honoring Barney will be John Davis, Dave Thompson, Bryant Dowden, Mark Mascola, Kevin Henry and Micheal Moss.
