Obituary: Dr. Pete A. Parks, 88, of Owensboro passed away , 4, 2014 at Heartford House. Born 11, 1926 in Williamsburg. KY, he was the son of the late Oscar and Ollie Smith Parks and was a member of First Christian Church. Dr. Parks was a dentist for 33 years and was a member of the Kentucky Dental Association, the American Dental Association, and the Green River Dental Association. He also volunteered at the hospital for many years. Dr. Parks did his undergraduate work at Cumberland University and the University of Louisville and graduated from the University Of Louisville Dental School. He was an amateur painter and enjoyed opera. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Margie Justice.

Surviving is his wife of 63 years, Gene Parks; daughters, Cathy Perrin and her husband Steve of Owensboro and Karen Knighton and her husband Jim of Zionsville, IN; a son, Greg Parks and his wife Susan of Louisville; grandchildren, Nicholas (Monica) Ebelhar, Ryan Ebelhar, Kathleen (Luke) Davidson, and Grace Anne Knighton; great-grandchildren, Caroline Ebelhar, Bennett Ebelhar, Jack Henry Davidson, and Hadley Davidson.

Obituary: Dr. Charles E. Parks, Sr., 83 of Owensboro passed away , 6, 2010 at Owensboro Medical System. A retired educator and ordained Baptist minister, he was born in Owensboro and attended Owensboro High School before enlisting, at the age of 16, in the United States Navy during World War II. He served in the South Pacific, was aboard ship in Tokyo Bay for the signing of the Japanese surrender, and was among the occupation forces. Following his discharge he graduated from OHS with a special class of returning veterans. He graduated from Campbellsville with an Associates degree, from Kentucky Wesleyan with a Bachelors of Science degree and from Indiana University with a Master of Science degree, where he also did post graduate work and received Rank 1 and Principals certifications. Dr. Parks graduated from The American Divinity School with a Master of Theology degree and from Trinity Theological Seminary with a Doctor of Theology degree. He also attended the University of Tennessee for intensive training in Individualization of Instruction, Humanization of Instruction, Sensitivity Training ,and Secondary Administration.

Dr. Parks career in public education with the Owensboro Public Schools included teaching and coaching in grade school and junior high for seven years. He served 25 years as principal at Eastern Junior High School, Estes Junior High School, Estes Middle School, and Owensboro Middle School. He was a seminary instructor and administrator at Trinity Theological Seminary, served as editor of the seminarys worldwide newsletter and as international president of the alumni association,, and taught seminary extension classes for Southern Baptist Seminary. Dr. Parks served as pastor of the Green Brier and Pleasant Memorial Baptist Churches, as interim pastor of more than forty-five churches in Kentucky and Indiana, and as pulpit supply for numerous churches.

He served two terms as president of Kentuckys Second District Education Association, was a member of the board of directors of the Kentucky Secondary School Principals Association, state president of the Kentucky Junior High/Middle School Association, and two terms as state president of the Kentucky Core Curriculum Association. Dr. Parks was a two-term member of the National Committee on Junior High School Education in America, a member of the National Committee for Teacher Welfare, and at the invitation of the State Department attended foreign policy conferences in Washington, D.C. His speaking activities included high school graduation programs, workshops for Trinity Theological Seminary, and sub-groups of the National Association of Secondary Schools. He served as president of the Western Kentucky Friendship Force and as moderator of the Daviess-McLean Baptist Association. A member of the First Baptist Church, he served on the churchs Senior Committee and as a co-teacher of the Beacon school class. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thurman Parks and Martine Hedges Parks, his brothers, Willard T. Parks, Raymond C. Parks, and Kenneth L. Parks, and his sister, Rubye Himes.

Surviving Dr. Parks are his wife of 60 years, Dorothy Coffey Parks; his sons, Charles Edward Parks, Jr. and his wife Sue, of Virginia Beach, VA, Dr. David L. Parks, Sr. and his wife Linda of Bowling Green; his grandchildren, Jessica Mae Parks, David Lee Parks, Jr., and Sarah Martine Parks, all of Bowling Green; his sister, Edna Mae Price and her husband Walter, of Lexington; nine nieces and nephews, and several great nieces and nephews.

Services, officiated by Dr. Paul Strahan, Rev. Bob Farmer, and Dr. David Nelson, are 10:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church. Honorary pallbearers will be active and retired ministers of the Daviess-McLean Baptist Association. Visitation will be from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Glenn and Crematory and after 9:00 a.m. at the church. A service of committal, followed by burial, will be 4:00 p.m. at the Missionary Mound in Metcalfe . In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Senior Ministry Program of First Baptist Church.

Obituary: Dorothy W. Parks, 84, died , 4, 2014 at Clark Memorial Hospital. She was born 7, 1930 in Spring Lick, Kentucky to the late Hena Hubert and Ada Jewell (Shain) Wilson. Dorothy was a member of both Colgate Baptist Church and Chenoweth Park Baptist Church and enjoyed many years of teaching School. Dorothys gentle spirit and compassion were experienced in her commitment to her family and friends, numerous acts of service in church and in her community, and in love and care of animals and nature. Dorothys love will live on in our hearts and lives as her legacy.

Born 22, 1929 in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of the late Franklin and Bessie (Bryant) Fisher, Sr. She was a 1947 graduate of West Side High School where she was Salutatorian of her class, the former Head Teacher for Bluegrass Headstart, a member Harrod makers, and a member of First Baptist Church where she was a participant in the Merriweather Missionary Society, was Church clerk for over 40 years and sang in the Church choir for a number of years.
Survivors include: one daughter: Paula Jayne Mays, Harrodsburg, three sons: Charles (Robin) Monroe Parks, Jr., Danville, James Franklin Parks, and Paul (Roxanne) Parks both of Harrodsburg; 11 grandchildren: Katlyn Parks, James Parks II, Toi Parks, JaEisha Parks, Terry Yeast, Shantilla Richards, Telisha Spears, Justin Parks, Dylan Colvin, Brandi (Chris) Wheeler and Kendrick Parks; 14 great grandchildren; 2 brothers-in-law, William H. Parks Sr., Harrodsburg and Lucian Parks, Georgia; 3 sisters-in-law, Anna Parks, Harrodsburg, Cora Allen, and Pauline Fisher both of Harrodsburg; an uncle, John Bryant; 4 very special friends who were like sisters, Jewell Lay, Frances Short, Ruby Dunn, and Bessie Henderson all of Harrodsburg and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other friends and neighbors. Obituary: Beverly Grider Parks, 86, of Owensboro, passed away on , May 18, 2009 at Owensboro Medical System. She was born on 30, 1922 in Warren Co. to the late David and Loueen Pruden Grider. She was retired from the Owensboro School System having worked in the lunchroom at Foust Elementary School for 23 years. She was a member of Eaton Memorial Baptist Church where she taught School for many years, was a member of the Womens Missionary Union, had been a volunteer for the Friendship House and was a visitor to the shut-ins of the church and a prayer warrior. She was a graduate of Bowling Green High School. She was a Kentucky Wesleyan basketball fan and enjoyed listening to Joel Utley announce the games on the radio and also playing bunco with her group of lady friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willard T. Parks on 14, 1985 and a daughter, Carolyn Midkiff on 19, 2003.

Surviving are a daughter, Kathy Harmon and husband Scott of Lake Charles, LA, a son, Ken Parks and wife Becky of McDermott, OH, five grandchildren, Ginger Parks of Owensboro, David Parks of Bowling Green, Sarah Henderson and husband Nathan of Moncks Corner, S. C., Rachel Harmon of Lake Charles, and John Allen Midkiff of Tallahassee, FL, two great grandchildren, Parker Gene and Emma Rose Henderson, a brother, John D. Grider and wife Barbara of Bowling Green, several nieces and nephews, and her many friends and neighbors she dearly loved.

Services will be 1:00 P.M. , May 21, at the Glenn Chapel with burial following in Rosehill . Visitation will be from 2:00-8:00 P.M. and after 11:00 A.M. at the funeral home.
