Obituary: Rockwell City – Jean C. Prescott 79, formerly of Twin Lakes, passed away , 11, 2015 at Sunny Knoll Centre. Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. , Aug. 14, at St. Pauls Lutheran Church, Rockwell City, with Rev. B.J. Ukena and Rev. James Davis officiating. Private family burial will be at Rosehill . Visitation will be 4:30 to 7 p.m. at the Palmer & Swank , Rockwell City. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left to Opportunity Living, Twin Lakes Christian , or St. Pauls Lutheran Church. Jean is survived by her husband Elmer; children, Kelly (Max) Fischbach of Osage Beach, MO, Kent (Diane) Prescott of Waverly, and Jay (Tami) Prescott of Urbandale; grandchildren, Lindsey (Drew) Butler, Jayna and Natalie Fischbach; Jordan (Lindsey), Keri, Mason, Cole and Emmalia Prescott; and Drew, Quinn, and Elyse Prescott; great-grandson Lucas Butler; and brother Bill (Janette) Stock of Orlando, FL. She was preceded in death by her parents, Marvin and Margaret (Broderson) Stock; brother David Stock; her in-laws, Dale and Ethel Prescott; and brother-in-law Doyle Prescott. Jean Carolyn (Stock) Prescott was born 18, 1936 at Denison, Iowa. She graduated from Odebolt High School, with the Class of 1954 and received a BS degree in nursing from the University of Iowa in 1958. On 1, 1958, she was united in marriage to Elmer Prescott at Peace Lutheran Church in Wall Lake, Iowa. The couple lived in Iowa City for two years and West Branch for four years. Jean worked part time at the University Hospital and as an office nurse. During this time, their three children were born. In 1963, the Prescott family relocated to Rockwell City, where Jean was a stay-at-home mom for ten years. In 1973, she was employed by Iowa Central Community , working in the health education field for twelve years. She was employed four years by Powhatan Travel Service as a travel agent. For several years, she was the volunteer coordinator of Opportunity Living. Jean was an active member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church, teaching school, singing in the choir, and being an LYO sponsor for nine years. She held various offices in WELCA at the local and synod level. She and Elmer were active in Via de Cristo and Ultreya. Jean volunteered for the American Red Cross, Reach to Recovery, Stewart Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, and Community Hospice. She was a past member of AAUW and belonged to two reading groups. She was the first woman to serve on the Rockwell City City Council. Leisure activities included reading, cooking, bridge, golf, bicycling, and travel. Following retirement, Jean and Elmer joined S.O.W.E.R.s, a Christian RV volunteer ministry. Jean was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, enjoying many happy times with her family. |
