Obituary: Samuel Paul Popejoy, twelve day old child of Cory and Sandra Popejoy of Tiffin, died unexpectantly , 3, 2014, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. services will be held at 10 am , 7, 2014, at High Point City Church @ 4187 Landon Avenue SW, Iowa City, with burial to follow at the Oak Hill near Tiffin. Obituary: Margaret Pope, 93, of Victor, passed away on , 10, 2015, at Brooklyn Community Estates. A visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with the family present at 4:00 p.m. for the rosary and a scripture service at 7:00 p.m., on , 12, 2015, at the Smith in Victor. Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 10:00 a.m., , 13, 2015, at St. Bridget Catholic Church in Victor with Rev. Brian Shepley, pastor of the church, officiating. Music will be provided by Marilyn Kriegel, organist and the church choir. Casket Bearers will be grandchildren Jeff Gryp, Janelle Larkin, Brad Schafbuch, Dawn Thys, Julie Cline and Steve Kriegel. Honorary Bearers will be grandchildren, Scott, Greg, Brian, Johnette, Joel, Jolene, Mark, Renae, Matt, Doug and Steve. Interment will be at the Calvary in Victor. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Margaret Pope Memorial Fund and sent in care of the Smith , P.O. Box 485, Victor, Iowa 52347. Margaret was born on 10, 1922, to James and Dorothy Peiffer McGarry in rural Victor. She was raised on the family farm and graduated from St. Johns High School in 1939. On 7, 1941, she was married to Merle Pope at St. Bridget Church in Victor. The couple farmed for several years near Millersburg and later near Victor before moving into Victor in 1954. The couple were blessed with four daughters. Margaret was employed at HLV schools as the secretary for the superintendent for 25 years. She enjoyed spending time with all of her grandchildren, bowling, playing cards, golfing and traveling to Europe and throughout the United States. Margaret was a member of the Altar & Rosary Society, a 75-year member of the American Legion Womens Auxiliary and a long time member of the Belle Plaine Country Club. Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Jean (John) Gryp of Victor, Joan(Gary) Schafbuch of Victor, Mary Ellen Kriegel of Toledo, and Marcia (Jim) Shults of Grinnell; two sisters, Dorothy (Ralph) Nogal of Bellingham, Washington and Genevieve Davis of Williamsburg; 16 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren and 25 great-great grandchildren. Margaret is preceded in death by her husband, Merle of 55 years; her parents; three brothers, Edward, Jim and John McGarry; one sister, Teresa Albert; and her son-in-law, Raymond Kriegel and granddaughter, Val Schafbuch |

Obituary: Jack Pope, age 84 of Lovilia, passed away on , 27, 2014 at Oakwood and Rehabilitation in Albia. Jack was born 12, 1929 in Moline, Illinois to Jarrett and Nellie (Runnells) Pope. He attended school in Bussey and graduated from Bussey High School. Jack married Lillian Martin on 2, 1952 in Reno, NV. To this union 7 children were born Charles, Vivian, Randy, David, Steven, Merle, and Terry. shared 37 years of marriage before Lillians passing on 26, 1989. Jack served his country in the United States Marine Corps for 35 years retiring from the Marines as a Sargent Major. While in the Marines, Jack helped with the Toys for Tots program. returning from the service, Jack worked as the manager at Hawkeye Lumber in Albia and later in Oskaloosa retiring at the age of 70. Jack was very active with Monroe Little League, where he coached and later became league president for many years. He enjoyed being outdoors, farming, playing pinochle, and in his younger years playing high school football. Jack is survived by his children, Charles Pope of Burlington, WI, Vivian Lawrence of Albia, Randy Pope of Blakesburg, David (Lisa) Pope of Elkader, Iowa, Merle (Karen) Pope of Topeka, KS, and Terry (Mickey) Pope of Albia; 15 grandchildren, William, Michael, Ben, Jonathan, Christianna, Thomas, Stephen, Julie, Jared, Jacob, Greg, Terrence, Jordan, Melody, and Davey; 7 great grandchildren. Jack is also survived by 3 sisters, Carolyn Larson, Phyllis Holmes and Sylvia (Bob) Webster; 2 sister-in-law, Avice Pope and Ruth Pope; and several nieces and nephews He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian, and his parents, Jarrett and Nellie; a son, Steven; a granddaughter, Jackie; 2 brothers, Don and Merle; and a sister, Jean. services will be held at 10:30 a.m., , 4, 2014 at Trinity United Methodist Church in Albia, with Pastor Richard Grimes officiating. Burial with military rites provided by the American Legion of Albia, Lovilia, and Melrose will be in Liberty in Bussey. Visitation will be held from 2 p.m.-8 p.m., , 3, 2014, at the Tharp in Albia, with Jacks family present 6-8 p.m. Memorials may be made to Welcome Soldier Memorial or to Monroe Little League. |
