Obituary: Pappas, Sophia Age 92 Sophia Pappas passed away 17, 2014 at Bishop Drumm in Johnston, IA. A native of Omaha, she was the daughter of Tom and Anna Nichols, who were Greek immigrants. She attended South Lincoln Grade School and graduated from Omaha South High. She worked at Marin Bomber Plant during World War II and had a career in the food catering industry. She was a long time member of St. Johns Greek Orthodox Church and served many years as their choir director. Sophia is survived by her son-in-law, Bob Downing, of Clive, IA; a granddaughter, Dina (Dave) Siedenburg, of Johnston, IA; great grandchildren, Ryan, Rachel, and Eric Siedenburg, all of Johnston, IA; many nieces, nephews, and godchildren. She loved them all. Preceding in death are her parents, husband, William A. Pappas, daughter, Connie Downing, grandson, Dana Downing. FUNERAL SERVICE , 26, at 11:30am at St. Johns Greek Orthodox Church. VISITATION will be at the church one hour prior to service. Interment Forest Lawn . Obituary: James Dale Pappas, 87, of Fort Madison, IA, passed away at 4:45 a.m. on , 27, 2015 at the Great River Klein in West Burlington, IA. He was born 19, 1927 in Crookston, Minnesota, the son of James K. and Anna Ohman Pappas. He married Joyce A. Bennett on 12, 1957 in Fort Madison, Iowa. He attended school in Crookston, MN, graduating from Crookston High School in 1945. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy as soon as he graduated, serving on ships in the Pacific and South China Sea near the close of World War II. He attended the University of North Dakota at Grand Forks, ND. He was sales correspondence supervisor at Sheaffer Pen for many years. He was also a district sales representative for Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Iowa and the LeFebure . Most recently he worked at the DuPont , from which he retired. He was a long-time member of Union Presbyterian Church, where he also served as deacon and elder. He was also a member of the Elks Club, and a lifetime member of the American Legion of Crookston, MN. He enjoyed returning to his beloved Minnesota for summer vacations with family, working in his garden, having coffee at HyVee with friends, but most of all, he loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, one daughter, Julia Miera (Stephen), Albuquerque, NM; one son, Scott Pappas (Christine), Lake Zurich, IL; three grandchildren, Joshua Miera, Matthew Pappas and Eric Pappas; two sisters, Patricia Gronberg of Deephaven, MN and Marlene Ackley of Loretta, WI, and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents. Per his wishes, cremation has been entrusted to King-Lynk & Crematory. The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on , 4, 2015 with the memorial service to immediately follow at 10:30 a.m. all at King-Lynk & Crematory with Great River Klein Chaplain David Plooster officiating. Burial will be held at Keokuk National . A memorial has been established for Union Presbyterian Church.
