Obituary: Elizabeth Mae Betty Pape, age 83, of Balltown, IA, passed away peacefully and surrounded by her loving family, at 11:05 a.m., on , 7, 2015, at Luther Manor. To honor Bettys life, funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on , 11, 2015, at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 468 Balltown Road, with Rev. Noah J. Diehm officiating. To celebrate Bettys life, family and friends may visit from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on , 10, 2015, at St. Francis of Assisi Church, Balltown, where there will be a parish scripture wake service held at 2:30 p.m. Family and friends may also visit from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m., on , 11, 2015, at Behr , 1491 Main Street. Burial will be in St. Francis . Betty was born on 5, 1931, in Minneapolis, MN, daughter of William E. and Elizabeth M. (Turnbull) Gardiner. Betty was united in marriage to Eldon A. Pape on 25, 1952, at St. Patricks Church in Dubuque. Betty and Eldon were blessed with 62 wonderful years together and 4 deeply adored children. Betty was a longtime and faithful member of St. Francis of Assisi Church and the Altar and Rosary Society. In her younger years, Betty was a talented softball player who learned early on that hard work is definitely a key component to success. Later in life she would discover bowling and would joyfully devote years to honing her abilities and developing countless relationships with new friends. Betty had a great appreciation of music, especially polka, and also loved watching the Chicago Cubs, Green Bay Packers and Iowa Hawkeyes. She was a very proud English woman who appreciated a strong work ethic, Christian character and the continuously role modeled trait of love and respect for family and friends. Betty was a graciously loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who always made time for her family. She may have played her last hand of Euchre, but the memories, values and lessons she taught along the way will be eagerly dealt throughout her family for generations to come. Betty is survived by her loving husband, Eldon Pape, Balltown, IA; her adoring children, Terrence L. Terry (Jan) Pape, Sherrill, IA, Thomas J. Tom (Robbie) Pape, Holy Cross, IA, Tamie S. (Neil) Cook, Holy Cross, IA, and Tina R. (Joe) Flaherty, Davenport, IA; her 10 grandchildren, Andy Pape, Katie Pape, Scott (RaeAnn) Pape, Kyle (Kelly) Pape, Derrick (Abby) Pape, (Dave) Ernzen, Ashley (Jason) Delaney, Abbey (Clint) Heacock, Libby Flaherty, and Bill Flaherty; her 9 great-grandchildren, Liam Pape, Ella Ernzen, Carter Ernzen, Brie Ernzen, Bradyn Delaney, Colsen Delaney, Addie Delaney, Easton Heacock, and Sawyer Heacock; her brother, Merle (Sue) Gardiner, Bristol, WI; her 3 sisters-in-law, Beverly Gardiner, Milwaukee, WI, Bernice Albrecht, Dubuque, IA, Maureen Pape, Dubuque, IA; and 2 brothers-in-law, Norbert Bruder, Long Prairie, MN, LaVern (Louella) Pape, Dubuque, IA. Betty was preceded in death by her parents; 4 siblings, Vivian (Orville) Place, Earl Gardiner, Joe (Leda) Gardiner and Evelyn Bruder; two brothers-in-law, Burton Albrecht and Norbert Pape; and a niece, Cheryl Kloet. An Elizabeth M. Pape memorial fund has been established which will be distributed to her favorite charities. The family would like to thank Dr. Schreiber and his nurse, the nurses and staff of Hospice of Dubuque and Luther Manor, particularly those who had a special relationship with her, including her loving and devoted granddaughter, Ernzen, and her dear friend, Betty Hefel. |

Obituary: Norman Panzi, 87, of Webster City, Iowa, passed away on , 23, 2016, at Trinity Regional Medical in Fort Dodge, Iowa. A Celebration of Life will be held 1:00 p.m., , 28, 2016, at the United Methodist Church in Dayton with a luncheon to follow. Pastor Kay. Christie will officiate. He graduated from Lehigh High School in 1946. Norman served in the United States Army from 1948 until 1952, during the Korean War serving with the Military Police. He was awarded the Bronze Star. On 14, 1951, Norman was united in marriage to Lois Lowe in Edinburg, Indiana. He was a member of the Donald Harper Post #5720 V.F.W. in Lehigh, Iowa. Survivors include his four daughters, Lea (Rial) Chaplin, Vicki (Art) Cox, Joni (Tom) Davis, and Shelli (Joe) Minor; 10 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren; one brother, Robert McAnally; and one sister, Marjorie Goble. His parents, step father, Newell McAnally, wife, Lois Lowe Panzi, two sisters, Edith and Mary, five brothers, Joe, Paul, John, and in infancy Frankie and Dickie preceded him in death.
