Obituary: Lowell Hanes Pinkston, 92, of Newburgh, passed away , May 23, 2017, at Hamilton Pointe. He was born 7, 1924, in Rumsey, KY, to the late Jesse James and Melvia (Dockery) Pinkston. He was a WWII US Marine Corps Veteran, a steel worker at Bethlehem Steel, and a founding member of the Volunteer Fire Department in Merrillville. Lowell enjoyed bowling and playing softball in his younger years and traveled extensively after his retirement. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed spending time outdoors, walking five miles a day for many years. Lowell was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Pinkston; son, Dale Pinkston; brother, Gene Pinkston; and sister, Martine Tillerson. He is survived by his sister, Jenoria P. Collier of Brentwood, TN; nieces and nephews, Bryan, Brad, and Matt Pinkston, Kevin Collier, and Tracy Velez. Obituary: Helen E. Pinkston, 87, of Evansville, passed away , 13, 2015, at Hamilton Pointe in Newburgh, IN. She was born 1, 1928, in Detroit, MI, to the late Harold and Bernice (Allen) Fidler. She and her husband, Lowell, were married for 67 years and had traveled extensively during their retirement years. She was a member of the American Legion Women's Auxiliary. Helen loved her pets over the years, Susie, Cricket, and Penny. She was an avid reader, enjoyed crossword puzzles, history, and politics. She loved collecting items from her and Lowell's travels, as well as their home in Merrillville that they built and lived in for over 50 years. She hosted many parties and get togethers there with their neighbors and friends on Independence Street. Helen spent the last few months of her life at Hamilton Pointe in Newburgh, where she made many friends with the nurses and staff. Helen was preceded in death by her son, Dale Pinkston; parents; sister, Roline Courtney; and brother, Ronald Fidler.
