Obituary: Gladys A. Plata, age 82 of Dixon, passed away on 16, 2015 at home. Gladys was born on 31, 1932 in Aguada, Puerto Rico; the daughter of Juan and Juanita (Martinez) Arroyo. She married Ysidro Plata on 24, 1951 in Sterling; he preceded her in death on 13, 2000. Survivors include two daughters, Juanita Cropsey of Freeport and Gladys Leal of Dixon; three brothers, Miguel Arroyo of West Palm Beach, FL, Nelson Arroyo of Orlando, FL and Jesus Arroyo of Racine, WI; six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two sons, Ysidro Plata and Ysidro Plata, Jr. and one brother Carlos Juan Arroyo. Obituary: Pekin - Etta Ollie Plaster, 99, of Springfield, Mo., passed away at 12:55 a.m. , 26, 2015, at Timbercreek Rehab & in Pekin. She was born Feb. 4, 1916, in West Plaines, Mo., to Dan and Velda (Bradford) Piercy. She married Elton Harris. She later married John Plaster. Surviving are one daughter, Lillian Rogers of Morton; one son, Tom Plaster of Missouri; eight grandchildren, including Kenneth (Bobita Jane) Rogers of East Peoria, Gary (Kathy) Rogers of Peoria and Rebecca (Ben) Gebbink of Creve Coeur; 10 great-grandchildren; and 17 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Keith Rogers, and 14 siblings. Etta worked various jobs throughout her life, and retired from Sears Roebuck & Co. Etta was a great cook and loved to share this gift with everyone who came to visit. She would always insist that you stay for a meal. She was also a talented seamstress and created beautiful needlework; such as quilts, embroidery, and crochet. Etta was a wonderful mother and grandmother and she was always showering her grandchildren in Love and Gifts. She loved life and the company of others. Etta was never one to shy away from community, she was a constant source of friendliness in her neighborhood. She could always be counted on to give a helping hand wherever needed. She brightened the lives of any with whomever she came into contact. Etta loved the Lord Jesus Christ and tried to live by the golden rule, Do unto others as you would have them to do unto you. Visitation will be from 5 to 6 p.m. , 30, 2015, at Knapp-Johnson and Cremation in Morton, followed by a funeral service at 6 p.m. Cremation will be accorded following the service. Obituary: Judith Carol Plassmeyer, 73, of Belleville, Ill., born 3, 1941, in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, passed away , 12, after a four year battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her family at her home in Belleville, Ill. Born to Alta, nee Doan, and Roy Looney, Judy spent 42 years in the field of education, which she loved. She graduated from Jackson High School in Jackson, Missouri, in 1959. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from Southeast Missouri State University in 1962, with an emphasis on English, Speech, and Speech Therapy. She earned a Masters of Science in Speech Language Pathology from SIU-Edwardsville in 1984 and a Master of Arts in Educational Administration from Lindenwood University in 2009. She taught most of her career in elementary speech language pathology; twenty four of these years were at Whiteside Elementary School. The final 13 years of her career were spent as the Special Education Coordinator at Whiteside Elementary School. She leaves behind the most important things in her life: A loving husband of 52 years; her daughter, son, and grandchildren; a devoted career to special needs children and families; and numerous special friends from the educational field that are too numerous to mention- you know who you are, and I love all of you! Love, hugs, and kisses! Words cannot describe how loving and devoted her husband , Ken, was throughout their marriage. He was her best friend and love of her life. She was also blessed with two beautiful children and five exquisite grandchildren, who were the lights of her life. Special memories from Judys life include adopting two beautiful and bright children; the births of five grandchildren; living a wonderful life with Ken; working in the educational field; and picking cotton in the bootheel of Missouri as a pre-teen! Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Alta Looney; and her sister, Jane Starwalt. She is survived by and will be missed by her husband, Ken Plassmeyer; her daughter and son-in-law, Jill (Plassmeyer) Smith and Doug Smith; her son and daughter-in-law, James Plassmeyer and Jenny (Wiethop) Plassmeyer; and her five wonderful grandchildren, Natalie, Ian, and Matthew Smith; and Wil and Cole Plassmeyer.
