Obituary: Dorothy Margaret Peacock went home to Jesus at age 93, 23rd, 2015, while in her home in CdA, ID. Born in Denton, MT, to homesteaders, Joe and Minnette Hill, she came to CdA at 9 months of age. Dorothy took elocution lessons at age 5 and was known for reciting many cute poems throughout her life. Joining her musical parents and brothers, Ira and Lennis, Dorothy played the violin and the drums in their little family band. She was also active in the high school band and VFW drum and bugle corps. She enjoyed her Camp Fire group and camping experiences at Sweyolakan. The family cabin at Twin Lakes brought many happy family memories. Due to an early childhood illness lasting several years, she developed a passion to become a nurse, and received her RN degree in 1944 from Deaconess School of . Billy Peacock and three Texas A & M buddies traveled from Texas to Idaho to work for the Forest Service but found better jobs helping build Farragut Naval Station. Due to a housing shortage in Cd'A, they rented Dorothys parents garage as an apartment. Bill met Dorothy and thought she was the prettiest girl he had ever seen. Bill joined the army and while Dorothy completed nurses training, the happy couple wed in 1944 in Peoria, Illinois, where Bill was stationed. The couple eventually moved to Garfield, WA, where they lived from 1952 until 1986, and raised their two daughters, Karen and Kathy. Bill worked as a manager of the J.E. Love while Dorothy continued her nursing. She was very active in the Methodist Church. Her community involvement included typing the local newspaper The Garfield Line and helping the townspeople in any way she could. She used her nursing skills to check blood pressures of friends and neighbors, became an EMT on the ambulance in the Palouse farming country, taught CPR classes, and nursed at Twinlow Methodist Camp. In 1986 they retired to her childhood home in CdA. Bills passing in 1988 was devastating to Dorothy. One morning she awoke, clearly hearing the Scripture reference Ps. 118:24. She looked it up to find the words, This is the day the Lord has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it. This inspired Dorothy to enthusiastically jump back into life volunteering in the community and her church. At that time, she began her weekly visits to many shut-ins which continued until just two years ago. Friends throughout the community enjoyed the multitude of fudge-topped brownies that she baked (mail carriers, grocery store clerks, the Gospel Jubilee, Cd'A Big Band, church, and neighbors). Her pockets always held dog biscuits to distribute on her weekly circuit. Her goal was always to be a blessing and help whomever needed it. She will be remembered by all the family and friends she loved. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Minnette Hill, her husband Bill Peacock, and brothers, Lennis and Ira Hill. Dorothy is survived by her two daughters, Karen (Lee) Books of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, and Kathy (Jim) Helgeson of Spokane, Washington; grandchildren Joy Books, Natalie (Len) Ledford, Erik (Leslie) Helgeson, Erika Helgeson and great grandson James Ledford; sisters-in-law and dear friends of many years Ruby Hill of Silverton, Idaho, and Betty Hill of Hoodsport, Washington, as well as many loved nieces, nephews, and cousins. Her memorial service will be held , 10th, 2 pm at Community United Methodist Church 1470 W. Hanley Ave, Coeur d'Alene, ID 83815.
