Obituary: Billie Jo Poppell, 64, of Crescent, GA, died , 19, 2010 at SEGHS Brunswick Campus. Services will be held 11:00 AM , 23, 2010 at Darien Church of God with Rev. Tommy Whaley officiating. Interment will follow at Union in Wayne with Wayne Johnson, Jeffrey Poppell, Larry Taylor, Mack Hursey, Carson Poppell, Joseph Trutt, Carl Poppell Jr. and Robert Poppell Sr. will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Don Boone, Bubba Hodge, Edward Deal, SICU Staff of SEGHS Brunswick Campus, Dr. Chester Messick, Dr. Osta and Staff, and Dr. Bowen. Born 29, 1945 in Glynn Georgia to the late William and Irene Sylvester. Mrs. Poppell was a homemaker and a member of Darien Church of God and was a former School teacher there. She enjoyed Bible study, embroidering and crochet, and especially her grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Poppell was preceded in death by a sister, Doris Thorne. Survivors include her husband, Samuel Poppell of Crescent, six children, Cliff Howard and wife Candy of Atkinson, Ronnie Howard and wife Denise of Darien, Patrick Howard of Townsend, Angie Goodman and husband Robert of Darien, Britt Poppell and wife Lynda of North Carolina and Juanita Young and husband Jeff of Kingsport, TN, twelve grandchildren, three great grandchildren, one brother, David Sylvester and wife Deanna of Blyth Island, three sisters, Delores Martin and husband Quinton of Jesup, Janice Courson of Atlanta and Tiny Rooks and husband Lester of Ft. HENRY STUHR, INC. DOWNTOWN CHAPEL. Paula was the daughter of Moshe and Sarah Kornblum. Born in Kaluszyn, Poland in 1923, Paula survived the Holocaust along with her sister using false documents to hide their Jewish identities. lived in hiding as Catholics at a convent working in a glass factory in southern Poland. the war, she and her sister smuggled into Germany and ended up in a displaced persons camp. There she met Henry Popowski, a community leader in the camp, and they married in 1947. Paula was universally known for her warm smile and tight hugs. She was a brilliant woman, who with Henry, owned and operated Henrys Furniture in downtown Charleston. Paula was devoted to her family, always up to date on the lives of her children and grandchildren. She was a true matriarch and worked tirelessly to assure a strong family unit. She was an accomplished cook and seamstress. Paula also avidly read the newspaper and enjoyed watching Jeopardy and CNN. Never driving a car, Paula could be seen walking city streets on her errands in her beloved adopted city, Charleston, South Carolina. Paula volunteered for many years at Roper Hospital, which was a very rewarding experience. Paula was predeceased by her husband, Henry Popowski. She is survived by two sons Mark Popowski (Helene), David Popowski (Anita Zucker); two daughters, Sarah Popowski, Martha Berlin (Barry); six grandchildren, Stephanie Popowski, Corey Popowski, Gabriel Popowski, Emma Popowski, Carly Berlin, Ross Berlin; a nephew, Myron Rushetzky. Obituary: Mr. Winford Ansel (Wink) Popham, age 80, passed , 29, 2015, at Hospice of the Golden Isles in Brunswick after an extended illness. He was a long-time resident of Brunswick and a member of Everett Baptist Church. Wink was a man that truly loved his country, family, friends and work! A proud native of Manor, GA, he graduated from Manor High School in 1953, continuing on to the Massey Business in Jacksonville, Florida where he earned an Associate in Business Degree. During his four years of service in the U. S. Air Force, Wink served part of his tenure as the Administrative Assistant to General Curtis LeMay, Commander of the Strategic Air Command (SAC). Upon completing his military commitment to this country, Wink returned to Brunswick and became a long-standing leading member of the Plumber/Pipefitters UA Local 177. One of his significant regional accomplishments was serving as the Project Lead for installing the water service in Ware . He later joined his brothers in developing and enhancing the capabilities of Popham Mechanical Contractors. Wink was devoted to his wife, daughters and granddaughter; all who he loved so very much and never failed to care for and support. He not only provided mentoring and support to fellow workers, he also was a positive impact on the lives of so many family members and friends - always laced with wit and kindness. etirement Wink did not slow down. He built shrimp boats and ran a successful shrimping operation for many years. His pride and joy was the boat Lady Chelsea, named after his granddaughter. Even as his personal business activities slowed he continued to search for opportunities and share his ideas with others. He is the son of the late Jacob Rudolph Popham, Sr. and Mary Louise Kirton Popham; and was preceded in death by five siblings, William (Bill) Langford Hedgepath, Annette Popham Bowen, Darlene Virginia Popham, Dorsey Elton Popham, Sr., and Phillip Edward Popham. Survivors include his wife, Mara Lee Tindall Popham of Brunswick; two daughters, Marsha Popham Leverette (Denny) of Brunswick, and Anna Popham DeLoach Stamper (Ed) of St. Simons Island; one granddaughter, Chelsea Stanford of Brunswick; three brothers, LTC Retired Dan Russell Popham (Elaine) of Blackshear, Jacob Rudolph Popham, Jr. (Vera Sue) of Blackshear, and John Allen Popham (Kaye) of Sylvester; brothers and sisters of Mara Lee; LeRoy (Buddy) Tindall, Jr. (Vivian) of Brunswick, Mack H. Tindall (Sandra) of Brunswick and JoAnn Tindall (Van) of Savannah; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Family and friends will be received on , 4th from 6 to 8 p.m. at Music in Waycross. The funeral service will be held on , 5th at 11:00 a.m. at Kettle Creek Church in Waycross. Interment will follow in Kettle Creek .
