He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Freddie C. Purvis; two daughters, Lisa Tejera (Jose) and Cynthia Swint (Ralph); four grandchildren, Maylen Tejera, Jose Jonathan Tejera (Stephanie), Evelyn Justine Purvis and Ashley Lynn Swint; and great-granddaughter, Aubree Isabella Tejera. Obituary: Gerald F. Purvis Gerry, 73, of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, passed peacefully on 5, 2015. Gerry lost his courageous battle with leukemia, but joined his loved ones in Heaven. Gerry was born in Chatham, Ontario, Canada on 3, 1942. He moved to Florida in 1957 and graduated from Lake Worth High School in 1961. He served in the Navy for 4 years. Gerry was married to Susan Durning Sue on 22, 1968; they were married 47 years. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. Gerry retired from Florida Power & Light after 46 years. He enjoyed boating, FSU football, his tools, riding his big lawn mower, and helping everyone in need. He will be remembered for his kindness, giving nature, warm heart, humor, and daily jokes. He seldom missed a boat parade to collect Toys for Tots; his pontoon boat was always top-loaded to full capacity. He enjoyed volunteering for many organizations including the PBC Sheriffs Cop Patrol and the National Child ID Program for missing children. He was also actively involved in the Jaycees, Shriners, Masons, and a member of the Jupiter Moose Lodge. He was dedicated to the mission and importance of the Blood Bank and over the years he donated an amazing 45 gallons of blood and donated a total of 308 times! Through a lifetime of selfless giving, he has received numerous awards and recognitions. Gerry is survived by his loving wife Sue, his daughters Chel Tassey and her husband, Robert Tassey, and Melanie Beare, his sister Marihelen Walker, five grandchildren Kalie Purvis, Connor and Spencer Beare, Jacob and Reider Tassey, great-grandchildren Lily and Layla, nieces, nephews, cousins and so many loving friends and family members, as well as his precious cat, Presley, whom he adored. We are all so blessed to have had him in our lives. He will be cherished in our hearts forever, missed greatly and never forgotten. Gerry is preceded in death by his son Scott, his father Spencer, mother Marion, and brother Allan. A funeral service will be held from 4-7pm on , 9, 2015 at Howard-Quattlebaum , 754 US Highway #1, North Palm Beach, FL 33408. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Hospice of Palm Beach or Sylvester Cancer of Miami. The Purvis family wishes to thank the amazing team of doctors at Sylvester Cancer , Hospice of Palm Beach , and all family and friends for their love and support. |
