Obituary: Dr. Donald Lee Priest Orlando, FL Born: Dec 7, 1932 Died: Apr 2, 2015 Died at home from natural causes Donald was born in Warsaw, Indiana, to C.S. and Eva (Henderson) Priest. Being the son of a circuit preacher, Don and his older sister, Marilyn, lived many places in Indiana. Around the age of ten, Don and his family settled in Goshen, Indiana. Don attended Concord Schools where he graduated in 1950. He attended Goshen where he graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Secondary Education in 1954. graduating from college, Don was drafted into the U. S. Army. He served his two years of Army life in Germany. While serving his country as a Personnel Specialist, Don earned the National Defense Service Medal, Army of Occupation Medal, and Good Conduct Medal. He also played on the Army basketball team and coached basketball teams as well. Don met and later married Melva Hansen on May 31, 1957. had three children: Michele (Priest) Woods, Lisa (Priest) Blackwell, and Jay Priest. Don and Melva have 12 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. While teaching and raising his family, Don completed a Masters Degree in Secondary Education and additional graduate hours to advance his career. Don taught in the classroom for several years at Concord before moving full time into audio visual services and later into an administrative capacity for the Kokomo Township Schools. retiring from public education in Indiana and moving to Orlando, FL, Don continued teaching, coaching, and various jobs in private education. During this time, he completed his doctorate in Religious education. Don served in many capacities in the various churches he attended. He was an elder/deacon, treasurer, sound technician, and school teacher. Other interests include reading, woodworking, and sports. Donald is survived by his wife of almost 58 years, Melva (Hansen) Priest of Orlando, FL; and their three children: Michele (Priest) Woods of McCordsville, IN; Lisa (Priest) Blackwell of Orlando, FL; and Jay Priest of Kokomo, IN. Surviving grandchildren include: Bethany (Woods) & Brendan ORourke, Christopher & Joanna Blackwell, Kyle & Elizabeth Blackwell, Jonathan & Tiffany Woods, Ashley Priest, Allyson Priest, and Wesley Blackwell. Surviving great-grandchildren include: William Blackwell, Leah Woods, Kaitlyn Blackwell, and Alexandra Blackwell. Don is also survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Marilyn (Priest) & John Wolber. Donald was preceded in death by his parents, C.S. & Eva Priest, and a grandchild, Matthew Blackwell. The Memorial service will be held at Union Park Christian Church, 2119 North Dean Road, Orlando, FL 32817 on 6, 2015 at 6:30 PM. Officiating the service will be Dons pastor, Tom Hensley. Memorial Donations may be made in Donald's name to www.militarychild.org There will be no graveside services.
