Obituary: Thomas M Powers, age 89 passed away peacefully at his home 1, 2015. He was born in Miami, FL on 2, 1926. He was a World War II Veteran of the Air Force, and served in the Pacific Theater as a nose gunner of a B24. He was shot down over the Pacific Ocean and bailed out for hopes of survival. He tied knots in his pant legs and swung them over his head to catch air and keep him floating. treading water for 20 hours, the USS Seafox rescued him. He received the Purple Heart and Distinguished Flying Cross for his service. his honorable discharge , he attended The of William and Mary, and later became an independent sales representative for the milk industry. retirement, he stayed busy golfing and working on many art projects. Obituary: Sara Elizabeth Marvin Powers, 91, of Jacksonville, Florida went home to be with her Lord and Savior on 14, 2017. Sara was born on 26, 1925, in Beaufort, South Carolina to James and Annabelle Marvin, Sr. and moved to Jacksonville as a young adult. She quickly discovered her love for bookkeeping, which lead to a long career in the automotive industry. At the age of 51, Sara started her own accounting firm - a great display of her feisty independent streak. She served the community for many years not only through her business, but also through her involvement with various Arlington churches. Sara's love for her family knew no bounds, and she especially enjoyed spending time with her grandsons. She lived a life filled with love for the Lord Jesus Christ and for anyone her life touched. This was most noticeable in her characteristic generosity and self-sacrifice towards family, friends, and strangers alike. Sara is preceded in death by her parents, James and Annabelle, brother Bernard Marvin, and sister Eugenia Small. She leaves loving memories to be cherished by her daughter Cynthia Brown; grandsons Stephen Brown, Chris (Leilia) Brown, Scott (Sarah) Brown, and Chase Brown; great-grandchildren Bryce and Corbin Brown, and Silas, Oliver, and Elizabeth Brown; sister Cynthia Harvey; and a large, extended family. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Woodland Grove and Rehabilitation, as well as to Larissa and her fellow caregivers at Community Hospice of Northeast Florida, for their outstanding care and support for Sara over the last several years. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on , 18, 2017 at Hardage-Giddens Greenlawn at 4300 Beach Blvd. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimers Association (www.alz.org) or to Community Hospice of Northeast Florida (www.communityhospice.com/give). |

Obituary: Ruth Marie Powers, 79, went home to be with her Lord on 12, 2017. Her passing was peaceful and she was surrounded by her family. Ruth was born 20, 1937 in Huntington, West Virginia. She is survived by her sister Virginia Dewan, her sons Greg Adkins, Bryan Adkins, and Charles Stepp, fourteen grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents W.J.B. Miller and Clara Ward; her siblings Rodella Carte and W.J.B. Miller Jr. Ruth loved to sing and faithfully served in the Ballast Point Baptist Church and South Tampa Fellowship choirs for many years. She was also a member of the Florida Worship Choir and enjoyed sharing The Gospel through music here in Florida and abroad. She was a member of Zonta Club International for 22 years. Ruth loved to bowl and even after her health didn’t allow it, she was in a Wii bowling league with friends at Presbyterian Villas. “Nana” loved to go to the sporting events, concerts and dance recitals that her grandchildren were involved in and was quite proud of each one of them. A celebration of life will take place at South Tampa Fellowship, 5101 Bayshore Boulevard, Tampa on 19, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. with burial following at Garden of Memories, Tampa. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to South Tampa Fellowship in memory of Ruth Powers. |
