Obituary: Stephen (Steve) Henderson Pitkin, 82, of Stuart FL, died suddenly on 7 after a long illness in Stuart, Fl. Born in Harrisburg, PA 1935, he was the son of Francis Alexander and Ruth Mason Pitkin. He leaves his wife of 54 years, Marcy Trembath Pitkin; two children, Douglas Alexander Pitkin (Patricia Cain) and Laura Pitkin Delany (Bill Delany); and a granddaughter, Caroline Marcy Delany. A graduate of William Penn High School (Harrisburg, PA) and Swarthmore , he had a Master’s in City Planning from the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Design. Steve served in the US Army and National Guard from 1960 to 1963. Steve pursued a distinguished 40-year career devoted to effective local government and community engagement. teaching at Penn’s Fels Institute of Government and serving as a planning consultant for nearby communities, he served as Director of Planning and later Commissioner of Community Development for Springfield, MA; Director of Planning for Caddo Parish, LA; and Director of Planning, Zoning and Community Development for Escambia , FL. He also taught as an adjunct faculty member with Springfield and LSU-Shreveport, and held positions with Keith and Schnarrs, Ft. Lauderdale, and as President of Robert Swarthout Inc. in Boca Raton. moving to Martin he was affiliated with Walter Keller, Inc. in Sewell’s Point. Steve’s numerous achievements including reaching Eagle Scout, resuming active support for scouting after retirement; membership in the Phi Delta Theta fraternity; past president of both the Louisiana and Florida Planning Associations; active in the American Planning Association; service with Florida’s Capital Planning Commission; past president of Habitat for Humanity, Martin ; and past president of the Unitarian Universalist Church of the Treasure Coast and the Boca Raton UU Church. Steve had a lifelong love for tennis, exploring new cities, classical music, and birding, with a lifetime count of 200 birds. A memorial service will be held on 22nd at 2:00 pm at the Unitarian Universalist Church of the Treasure Coast, 21 Central Parkway, Stuart. Obituary: 85, passed away 24, 2017 in Tampa, Florida. He attended Lee Elementary, Wilson Junior H.S., Plant H.S., and the University of Tampa. Vince was an excellent baseball player having played at Plant H.S., American Legion Post 5, University of Tampa, and the Inter-Social League in Ybor City. He was offered a minor league contract with the Detroit Tigers but was drafted into the US Army and proudly served during the Korean War. Vince was a long-time baseball coach and board member at Interbay Little League and served on the staff of District 6 Little League Baseball in Tampa, Florida. In 1951, he met the love of his life, Theresa Harris. were married at Christ the King Catholic Church 2, 1954 and had four children. Vince retired from the US Postal Service after working 36 years. Vince was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Frances Pitisci; brother-in-law, Bill Harris. He is survived by his loving wife, Theresa; son, James Vincent (Lynette) Pitisci Jr.; daughter, Mary Frances (Leo) Pitisci-Radcliff; daughter, Karen Pitisci; son, Michael Pitisci; his special grandson, James Vincent (Tiffany) Pitisci III; his precious great-grandson, Vincent James Pitisci; sisters- in-law, Patricia (Ed) Perez and Benedicta Harris; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Vince was a loving and caring husband and father, and he instilled in his children the Catholic faith, responsibility, hard work, accountability, and honesty. Vince will be dearly missed. A Mass will be conducted at Christ the King Catholic Church , 13, at 10 am and the family will be receiving guests prior to Mass from 9-10 am with private inurnment at Florida National . In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated at Tampa Cat Crusaders, Cat Lovers Inc., or Cat Call, Inc. all located in Tampa, Florida. |
