Obituary: Domenico Antonio Perenzin. He was born to Antonio and Antonia Perenzin Italian parents who had moved to the United States to live the American dream. Even his birth was the making of an epic beginning to an even more epic life. At 40 years old it was not expected to have a healthy child. Dominic was born unable to breathe and thrown aside by the doctor to save his mother. His aunt noticed there was something moving in baby Dominic’s throat, she picked him up and gave him a pat on the back. Dominic quickly spit out a mass that was blocking his ability to breathe. He lived..by a miracle. He was born to two siblings (Leon – 14, and Mary- 10), and the first American in his family. He was born 3 months after the infamous stock market crash of 1929 followed by the great depression. His parents were hard workers and were always able to keep food on the table and a roof over their heads. Their hard work and family values stayed with Dominic for the remainder of his life, and are the same that he instilled in all of his children. Dominic grew up in Fitchburg Massachusetts, and from an early age developed a passion for music. He became a professional saxophone player in a big band throughout the 1940s. 1950 brought the beginning of the Korean War. Dominic joined the U.S. Navy to serve our country during wartime and was assigned to be a musician where he met Al Maruso, a Yale graduate who noticed a spark in Dominic. Al introduced him to great literature, and inspired him to start taking college credit classes. his discharge from the Navy in 1953 Dominic set out to register for college at Boston University, where he continued on to Law School, and began his career as an attorney. His academic career took him from a successful partner in a prominent Wall Street Firm, to a professor at the Institute of the Americas at Southern Methodist University, and eventually his own firm in Bogota, Colombia. During his professional career Dominic obtained not only a JD, but a Masters, and Doctorate. He is a contributing author of a multi-volume work on U.S. Corporate law, and has written numerous articles for the Bureau of National Affairs, the Lawyer of the Americas and the Law Review of the Autonomous University of Mexico Law School. He also started and ran Colombia's only English language newspaper in which he had a regular column. His later years in life were dedicated to his family. His loving wife Alicia Perenzin, and children Dominic Jr, Gina, Laura, and Alicia. DomInic is described by all of his children as the father one can only dream about, one that loves unconditionally, supports without limit and was a best friend to his wife and children He also took on a new profession after retirement as a writer. He not only wrote his autobiography but several other biography’s and fictional books that were published including “Wines of ”, “Monument to a Nobody”, “Voices from Beyond Autumn”, “In search of a Fish Tank”, and “Shadows of a time past”. As a testament to his love for writing, Dominic finishing his last book the day before he passed. This book will be published by his family for the world to enjoy the beautiful stories created by him in his final years with us. Without doubt, Dominic was a great man who lived his life as an example for us all. However if you ask those that knew him best, he is by far one of the greatest men that ever lived, who loved life and serves as an example to all of us on how to live. |
