Obituary: PEPE, ANNELLO (RICO) VINCENT departed this life on 23, 2016 after just short of two days to reach his 96 year birthday. He was born at home in Mechanicville, New York on 25, 1920 to Mary Grace Amodeo Pepe and Annello A. Pepe. His parents were born in Italy and migrated to the United States through Ellis Island then to Mechanicville where they met and married. He was the first born and a beloved brother of five sisters and two brothers. This family is to be admired for their successes through life. Their mother passed away when Rico was 10 years old leaving their father to care for 8 children. Rico showed an interest in music learning to play the trumpet at age 10 from his uncle Fred (his mothers brother who was Mechanicvilles music instructor) and then when he was in Jr. High School was asked to play trumpet with the high school band. He would save his earnings and continue his music studies at a school in New York City by taking the train from Albany until he enlisted in the Army. Rico then served in the Army in World War II as Sargent in the 105th Infantry Band starting in 1940 through 1945. Unfortunately his best friend was killed at Midway in 1941. His brothers also enlisted and fortunately they all made it home safely but their lives were forever changed. He continued his love of music by playing trumpet with several bands in the State of New York as a Union member until he was 83 years old as a hobby. Then after moving to Orlando, Florida in 2003 he played with the Memories Band at Mark Street Senior for the RSVP - Senior Volunteers program until age 87. The trumpet he purchased at age 10 with his hard earned money and he played this same trumpet until he was 87! He also loved photography and we still have his original 35 mm camera. He attended Albany Business and then earned his accounting degree from Union in Schenectady, New York. He had been accepted at Yale University but before attending, met and married Helen Encinas on 25, 1950. Rico managed a department store chain for over 25 plus years in Saratoga, New York and then at age 60 worked for the State of New York in downtown Albany continuing for 23 years until the age of 83 when he retired and moved to Orlando, Florida to be by his immediate family. He was always the kind of person you could depend on to be there for you. A caring, kind, affectionate, and patient man. Rico is survived by his daughter, Nita Davis and son-in-law, Bill Davis; grandchildren Derek and wife Danielle Raeman Way, Melanie Davis Ryan and husband Kevin Ryan, all living in the Central Florida area and Ryan Way of Denver, Colorado; sisters Ann Gaetano and Dolly Fantauzzi of Mechanicville, New York and several nieces and nephews in the northeast. A service of celebration of his life will be held Woodlawn Memorial Park and , 400 Woodlawn Road, Gotha, FL 34734 on , 31 with visitation with family at 2:00 p.m. and memorial service to begin promptly at 3:00 p.m. and with Military Honors at the grave site at Woodlawn following the service. Annello struggled with dementia for more than 14 years.
