Obituary: In Memory of Roland Reid Parker, 29, 1944 - 17, 2014. Roland Reid Parker, 70 of Ft. Lauderdale, FL died on 17, 2014, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife, Pilar Parker, his children, James, Kevin, Derek (Erika), Remy (Valerie), Ryan, and Wesley (Courtney), his Grandchildren, Derek, Jr (24) Kaitlin (23) Brynlee (21) Savannah (16) Jackson (6) Luke (4) Devananda (4 mos), his brother, Lt. Col. Charles W. (Charlie) Parker of Punta Gorda, FL; and Sisters, Cathryn (Kay) Faulman of Sarasota, FL; and Annie McGhin of Valdosta. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lt. Col. Guy Reid Parker, Jean Elizabeth Parker, and his grandmother, Mamie (Mama) Reid Parker. Roland Reid Parker, better known as Reid, was born in Walnut Ridge, Arkansas on Leap Year ( 29th) 1944 and passed away peacefully at his home in Ft. Lauderdale on , 17, 2014. He was surrounded by family. Reid was a long time Fort Lauderdale resident. His family and lifelong friends will remember him for his wonderful sense of humor, quick wit, determination, and charming good looks. He was also a master of all things grilled and a self-described fashion expert. Reid had an influential personality and the uncanny ability to share his beliefs with you whether you asked him to or not. Reid described himself as a soldier for the Lord and spent countless hours studying the World of God. In his free time, Reid was at his happiest outdoors. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, spending time at the beach, gardening and working on his meticulous yard. His love for the natural world showed in his home as well as in his generosity for the less fortunate. He loved the South Florida sports teams, although you wouldn know if you watched a game with him. If you were fortunate enough he may have made you a famous Parker peanut butter, mayonnaise and banana sandwich. He enjoyed the fellowship of friends and his church. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Whether he was making them laugh by dancing, telling stories, or speaking in his Donald Duck voice, they all looked forward to spending time with Grandpa. Reid spent his youth in Arkansas, Texas, Germany and Florida. He graduated from the first graduating class of Pompano Beach Senior High School. Reid spent time in California and Indiana before returning to Fort Lauderdale. Forever trying for a daughter, he was blessed with six boys, proving that God has a sense of humor. In 1978, Dr. Larry Crab shared the gospel with Reid and his life was forever changed. He then became a member of Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church. Professionally, Reid started his career in golf course community development, representing Glen Eagles, Vista Plantation, and Rainberry Bay to name a few. Reid enjoyed the last several years of his career as a Senior Financial Advisor. In 2008, he opened his own office, Ocean Palms Capital, in Tamarac. He felt tremendously blessed and greatly valued his clients. He always trusted in the Lord to provide. Personally, in 2010, Reid married his Columbian counterpart, Pilar. She knew just what Reid's life was missing and brought with her a much needed Latin flavor to his life. enjoyed many happy years together. As a spouse and great friend, she gently and lovingly cared for him with grace and humor. Their love was a unique and special one.
