Obituary: The Lords angels folded their wings around an American hero and carried him to God's Holy Throne. Richard Edward Palczewski, aged 91, born in Chicago, Illinois to Stanley Palczewski and Helen Och, passed to heaven on 21, 2015 after losing his last battle to coronary disease. He is the surviving member of Stanley and Helen's children, preceded by the death of his sister Leverne Palczewski Fennessy, and brother James of Chicago, Illinois. He was also preceded in death by his wife Evelyn Colleen Waters and his daughter Evelyn Kathleen Midyette, both of Jacksonville. Survivors include his children Richard (Pam) Lason of Orlando, Angela Kessey of Melvindale, Michigan, Martha (John) Bagby of Orange Park, Christina Sykes of Fort Lauderdale and niece Leanne Rago of Chicago. He also had a beloved friend who was like a daughter, Peggy Baker. Grandchildren include Christopher and Nadia Lason, Traci and Shaun Kessey, and Christine, John, and Blake Bagby. A World War II veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Navy and U.S. Army, he was involved in combat operations against German U-Boats on the Atlantic seaboard. His Coast Guard Cutter sank a U Boat in the Hatteras that is a popular dive spot today. He saw combat action in the South Pacific, New Guinea, the Philippines, Okinawa, and occupied Japan. He was known for his involvement as a volunteer for the VFW Post 1689 as a member and officer for over 69 years. Richard was a faithful and devout Roman Catholic and a member of Assumption Parish on Beach Blvd. Donations are requested by the family to Community Hospice in lieu of flowers. The family will receive visitation at Hardage-Giddings at Normandy Blvd at 6 to 8pm on , 26th. Wake services followed by internment and graveside service will be conducted at 10:00 am, 27th at Hardage-Giddens on Normandy Blvd in Jacksonville.
