Obituary: Mr. Malcolm Mal Page won a 5-year battle with Alzheimers and moved on to the next challenge on 11 Sep. 2015. Never losing his Northeastern sense of humor or surrendering his dignity, he continued to live on his terms, at home, with the help of his daughters Kathleen Kat Windham and Jenny Jones. He spent his last days in comfort and peace, surrounded by family and exceptional caregivers. Mal was born in Brattleboro,VT in 1924 to parents Leonard Page and Christine Dempsey, he aged 91 years. In 1941, at 17 years old, Mal enlisted in the Navy and shipped off to World War II. He was very proud of his service in PBY Catalina seaplanes, his lifelong favorite aircraft, and so awestruck by the Hughes H-4 Hercules Spruce Goose that he continue an aviation career after the war. The former Navy sailor and flyer returned to the wild blue yonder as a United States Air Force navigator and pilot. He flew various transport aircraft for the Air Force, remaining ever prideful of his Navy enlisted service. In the mid-50s while attending Squadron Officer School at Maxwell AFB, Alabama, Mal met a local gal named Nada Kathryn Posey who would become the love of his life—they were a ridiculously beautiful couple. The World would come to know Nada as Kitty and Mom. Mal and Kitty spoke most fondly of their time at Taipei Air Station in Taiwan. shared 56 wonderful years before Kittys passing in 2010. Mal also served his country in the Korean War and briefly during Vietnam. Being a straight forward, square jawed, honest, and exceptional leader, Mal placed professional priority in his work and his people without exception. Among his career highlights was working in test programs at Tyndall and Eglin AFB in Florida and he often spoke of his time with the 728th Air Control Squadron at Shaw AFB in South Carolina, where his daughter Kat was born. Upon completing 28 years of distinguished military service Mal retired from the Air Force with the rank of Major in 1969 and began a second career in Anaheim, Ca with the company that inspired him to pursue aviation, Hughes Aircraft, where his daughter Jenny was born. The Page family headed back to Florida in 1973 and planted roots in Shalimar. Mal later retired from Hughes and became a local realtor before retiring for the third time in the mid 80s. He spent the rest of his life entertaining friends, doing everything himself, being the Page Family Monarch, and hanging out at the FWB Municipal Golf Club and Two Trees Restaurant, where he solidified his famously staunch support for Amberbock beer and swapped stories with Mr. T. Mal is also survived by his son-in-laws, Curt Windham and Michael Jones, his daughters from across the street, Donna and Cathie Carney, and the ladies who were instrumental to his quality of life in his last years—his loving caregivers, Susan Lawson, Elaine Hendren, Sandi Iames, Kim Hall, Adrienn Armstrong, Theresa Powers, and Stacy Reiling. Thank You Donna—for your professional nursing experience, advice, friendship, and bath time inspiration. The Page family would like to extend their love and thanks to the late Mrs. Joyce Carney for her devoted support, love, and brilliant comedic relief—a genuine Steel Magnolia. We miss you Mrs. Carney. The family would also like to thank Covenant Hospice, especially Nurse Jackie Harris for her professionalism, leadership, honesty, and hugs, and Wendy Frye for her compassion and exceptional care. A private ceremony will be held at Barrancas National with military honors where Mal will be reunited with Kitty for eternity. The Twisted Grape Wine Bar and Cafe in Shalimar will host a celebration of Mals life on Sep 27, 2015 at 3:00 PM.
