Obituary: Wesley Fremont, better known as Doc Owensby, of Visalia, passed away 10, 2010, at Kaweah Delta Hospital, at 96. He was born 19, 1914 in Buffalo, Missouri to James Wesley and Della Mae Owensby. He married Kathleen Nichols Owensby, , 1938, in Buffalo, MO. had three children, James Wesley Owensby, Mary Lee Owensby, and Keith Edward Owensby. Following the death of his wife, Kathleen Nichols Owensby, 1971, he married Helen Lawrence Botkin, 11, 1973, in Visalia. She predeceased him in death on 19, 2007. He was also preceded in death by six brothers and sisters, wife, Kathleen Nichols Owensby, Visalia son, Keith Edward Owensby, TN, granddaughter, Kim Gronsdahl, Oregon, and Brian Gronsdahl, Oregon. He worked for Southern California Edison for thirty years and retired 24, 1975. Rancho Costa Plenty on Ben Maddox Way, and farming were his passion. He worshiped at Gateway Church of Visalia and was active in the community until three weeks ago when he fell and broke his hip. Prior to that he was attending monthly real estate meetings, Bible and Breakfast, visiting the Senior , and exercising at Lifestyle. A man of faith and family values, integrity and character, he enjoyed gathering with the family, catching up with how everyone was doing, and playing nightly board games which he did for over fifty years. He led a colorful and exciting life and traveled the globe on numerous organized trips. Favorite destinations were Australia and the Panama Canal. He enjoyed regaling stories of life experiences to his grandchildren who always wanted another story. A favored escapade was a bear encounter he had on a cabin porch while staying at a cabin in Montana. many years of being asked about his life, he wrote a book at age eight-five documenting the highlights of his life. He kept a diary spanning many decades that he wrote in at the end of each day recording the doings at Rancho Costa Plenty. He enjoyed reading and keeping up with local and national news. He is survived by his daughter, Mary Lee Ivey, Visalia, James Wesley Owensby, Washington, step-daughters, Jennifer Botkin Phillips, Montvale, NJ, Lezlie Marian Botkin, PhD. Boulder, CO, grandsons, Ryan Thomas Botkin, Visalia, Randy Craig Ivey, Visalia, and Keith Wesley Owensby, Ohio; granddaughters Merri Elizabeth Barnes, Visalia, Kristina Elaine Botkin, Visalia, Diane Owensby, Visalia, Nicole Marie Maher, Bozeman, MT, Lesa Marie Maher, Livingston, MT, Aimee Elizabeth Maher, Helena, MT, Kay Swauger, TN, Sherrie Lynn Linton, Ohio, Terry Lynn McBride, Portland, Oregon, and several great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Obituary: Leonard Owensby was a natural leader whose winning presence allowed him to take control of various situations with ease. Equipped with a clear and calculating focus, he possessed a tough-minded, ake charge attitude. He had the ability to make even routine situations seem exciting, and he was at ease with the role of playing problem solver. Leonard always sought out the scene of where the action was. Sociable, analytical and pleasant, Leonard was an individual who enjoyed lifes challenges. Leonard was born on 4, 1941 at St. Vincent Hospital in Santa Fe, New Mexico. His parents were Lou Ella and Wilbur Owensby Jr. Leonard was raised in Ft. Sumner, New Mexico. Always able to express himself well, Leonard possessed strong interpersonal skills. He was optimistic in his outlook on life and was able at all times to be open and direct in his communication. Armed with a great wit, Leonard was raised to be accepting of others and to implement a strong personal work ethic. Blessed with a balanced attitude, Leonard was able to relate well with others. His occasional role as family mediator gave him the opportunity to ease tense situations when they occurred. Leonard was raised with two siblings. He had a younger brother Billy Wayne and older sister Mary Lou. Leonard had a strong desire to be treated fairly and would readily offer others the same fairness in return. As a young child, Leonard showed his creative ability in many ways. He was outgoing and animated. Leonard enjoyed new activities and pursued a variety of interests. He took part in track and field. Known to others as a focused, logical, open-minded and somewhat driven individual, Leonard was able to utilize these qualities to succeed in high school. His curious nature was spurred by his ability to maximize his personal learning style through employing a hands-on approach. He was good with facts and had an excellent memory. He graduated from Fort Sumner High School in 1959. He enjoyed some courses more than others, having favorite classes and teachers. His favorite class in high school was P. E., he was a State Champion in track, Class President and Honor Society. When the goal of college was in sight, it became important to Leonard. Again, his direct, down to earth approach served him well. He was able to absorb complex concepts and had an acute sense of how things worked. Friends and acquaintances found Leonard an easy man to get to know, and those close to him would often praise his open, practical style of communication and relaxed approach to life in general. Leonard was uncomplicated and straightforward in his relationships, which allowed him to accept people for what they were. While growing up, some of his best friends were Ed Smartt, Bill Hammons and Buddy Bryant. Leonard was attentive to his wife Adelas feelings, and he charmed her and others with his gift for being able to give freely and generously. A good listener with an engaging personality, Leonard was able to bring pleasure and unexpected humor to the relationship. Very much like a kid himself, Leonard identified with the inquisitive and creative side of his childrens personalities. He was able to direct his energy and spontaneity towards helping his children acquire added common sense skills. Leonard was blessed with three children, Eddy, Billy and Bobby. He was blessed with six grandchildren, Andre, Bobbie, Alexis, Cade, Dyllan, and Dallas. Leonard was a flexible worker who was able to draw the best from others around him. A persuasive individual who was quick to make necessary decisions, Leonards strengths included being able to think on his feet. He could be a leader who sought impact for his decisions. Gifted with an incredible ability to read body language, Leonard was able to positively manipulate situations and motivate others in order to get a task completed. He was a good negotiator who enjoyed new challenges. Leonard could multi-task, and he was endowed with entrepreneurial spirit, allowing him to think beyond standard norms when it came to resolving issues in his work environment. His primary occupation was as an Independent Distributor. . Leonard was a Marine Corps veteran. Leonard was a cool thinker who could handle himself well in a crisis. He was stationed in Camp Lejuene and the USS Enterprise. Leonard saw action in the Vietnam war. He achieved the rank of E-5. He received several awards including a National Defense Medal, Good Conduct Medal and was an Expert Rifleman. He showed leadership qualities and could make tough decisions when he was called upon to do so. Leonard enjoyed his leisure time by taking part in various hobbies. He had something of an artistic flair in many of the things that he did. He put this creativity toward all of his pastimes. His favorite pursuits were coaching, announcing games, SCUBA diving, ELKS, boating, dancing and playing games. He was content to enjoy his hobbies alone but was also willing to share his interests with others. Because he liked to take risks, Leonard was a perfect match for athletics and exercise. He was enthusiastic and confident about these activities. In high school, Leonard played track, football and basketball. Recreational sports included bowling and SCUBA diving. Leonard was also something of a sports fan and enjoyed watching his favorite events whenever he got the opportunity. Tops on his list were football and boxing. Leonard was a gifted problem solver who worked hard to help accomplish group goals. This skill made him a wonderful asset to the various groups and organizations to which he belonged. Always matter-of-fact about what needed to be done, Leonard worked steadily to meet any organizations goals. In high school, Leonard was a member of the ROTC, Honor Society and spent 4 years on Student Council. In college, Leonard joined the ROTC.
