Obituary: Clarence Stephen Owens, Sr. (The Big O), died 18, 2014 at the age of 76. Clarence was born and lived most of his life at Bena, and then resided at Cappahosic. He was a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church. Clarence worked for Gloucester Seafood and was a retired waterman. He was an avid foxhunter, and loved the outdoors, working in his garden and hanging out with friends at Ricks Country Store drinking coffee. He loved his family and was the most devoted husband, father and grandfather and never met a stranger. We will miss you terribly, but you will live on in our memories until we see you again. He was preceded in death by his parents, James L. and Turner Owens and Odell and Katy Blake; and brothers, James Leslie Owens and Odell Blake, Jr. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years Frances; children, David, Stephen (Jennifer), Ronald (Hope), Crystal (Donnie); grandchildren, Stephen, Sterling, Breck, Will, Michael, Kristen and Jacob; and great grandchildren, Lexi and Noah. A funeral service, officiated by Reverend Carol Bookwalter will be held 1 p.m. , 23, 2014 at Bethlehem United Methodist Church, Bena. Interment will follow in Gloucester Point . The family will receive friends , 22, 2014 from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at Hogg , Gloucester Point. |

Obituary: Christina Marie Owens, aged 55, of Mathews, VA, passed unexpectedly on , 2, 2014, at her home in Glebe. She was born on 27, 1958, and was a Mathews resident for 41 years. She worked as a certified nursing assistant at Horn Harbor , New Point, VA, and retired from Walter Reed Hospital after 25 years of being a CNA and transportation assistant. She was a loving mother, sister, and friend and will be greatly missed by her family. She attended Salem United Methodist Church, Diggs, VA, where she sang in the choir and was a member of the Agape Circle. She also served and made food for the s Kitchen. The highlight of her day was doing crossword puzzles. Christina was preceded in death by her parents: Robert Minor, father; George Tony Anthony, Stepfather; and her mother Laverne Anthony. She is survived by her daughter Amanda Owens, Vancouver, WA, sister Laura Garrett of Mathews, her two brothers Russell Minor of Gloucester and Allen Minor of Smithfield. She is also survived by her former spouse Ray Owens and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family will receive friends on 7, 2014, from 7-8:30 pm. at Salem UM Church, Diggs, Virginia. A funeral service will be held at the Church at 1 pm on 8, 2014, with burial to follow at Woodlawn in Kilmarnock, VA. |

Obituary: Betty Lou Anderson Owens, 84, went to be with the Lord on 1, 2017 after a long battle with Alzheimers. She was born Feb 26, 1932 to the late A.S. Anderson and Elsie (Thomas) Anderson. Betty was born and raised in Leemaster, VA and attended Grundy High School in Grundy, VA. She married Eugene Owens 9, 1952 in Grundy and they later moved to Lynchburg, VA, where she remained. She worked for Huff Cook for over twenty years and won numerous awards including Sales Person of the Year in 1988. Betty retired in 1990 due to health issues. Betty was of the Baptist faith and hosted the The Spencers, when in Lynchburg to sing. She enjoyed listening to gospel music, yardwork, planting flowers, spending time with her friends, and helping others. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Owens; two sisters, Jacqueline and Lucille and four brothers, Franklin, Curtis, Thomas, and Timothy. Betty is survived by one sister, Joann Richardson, of Bucyrus, Ohio. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and her special friend and care-giver Roberta Hargis and Clydine Branham, her niece.
