Obituary: A beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, Hyrum E. Ottesen, 84, died peacefully at his home , 7, 2007 from complications of a stroke. He was born 2, 1923 in Palmyra, Utah to Hans L. and Nellie Barney Ottesen. He was educated in the Spanish Fork schools. He was a senior in high school in 1940 and just weeks after his birthday, President Roosevelt declared our nation at war. He enlisted in the Air Force in missing his graduation from High School. Basic training was at Sheppard Field in Witchita Falls, Texas then to Camp Kilmer, New Jersey for overseas processing. A convoy of 36 ships took 15 days to Antwerp, Begium and finally by truck convoy to Erlongdon Air Force base in Manchester, England a huge supply base. The base was part of the 8th and 9th Air Force Service Command and he served there for 18 months. He also spent time in Kiev, Russia, Nuremburg , Germany, and France, returning home in 1946. He was then employed at Geneva and Ironton steel mills. He married Shirlene Roach 14, 1954 in the Manti Temple, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He served in the church as a counselor in the YMMIA, in the School presidency and a home teacher. He was High Priest in the Palmyra Ward. Soon after his marriage, he farmed with his father-in-law, Ernest Roach and together they established a successful dairy and beef cattle business. In 1967, his father-in-law was killed and he assumed full responsibility of the business. He served for three years on the Utah State Dairy Commission. A quiet man, his legacy to his family is that of honesty, integrity, hard work and a name to be proud of. He was truly a dedicated farmer. The alarm clock in the Ottesen home was set for 4:30 a.m. for 25 years. While he continued to be involved with the field work and irrigating, his son has managed the dairy since 1979. In his youth he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and working on the farm with his father. In the past few years he especially enjoyed going on re-enactments and trail rides with his mules and covered wagon. He was proud of his pioneer ancestors and their contribution to the early history of the Church. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Shirlene Ottesen, Palmyra; children, Janeen (Phil) Thomas, Spanish Fork, Paul (Becky) Ottesen, Elizabeth (Ed) Nielsen, Barbara (Darin) Jensen, all of Palmyra, and Elaine (Scott) Gunter of Malad, Idaho; his sister, Ina Olin of Waldport, Oregon and a brother, James Ottesen of Baltimore, Maryland; sister-in-law Margaret Ottesen of San Mateo, California and sister-in-law, Carol Ottesen of Orem, Utah and several nieces and nephews; thirty grandchildren; a grandson, John Thomas serving an LDS mission in Paraguay and eleven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hans and Nellie Barney Ottesen, brothers Albert and Roy and a grandson, Bradley Thomas. services will be held , 11th at 11:00 a.m. at the Palmyra Ward Church, 1866 West 5000 South. Friends and family may visit evening 6to 8 p.m. at the Walker Mortuary, 187 South Main in Spanish Fork and at the church prior to the services 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. Interment will be in the Spanish Fork City with full military rites. The family would like to thank Alpine and Alpine Hospice Services for their kind care of Hyrum for the past 17 months. A special thanks to Rhett Huff and Stacey Memmott. |

Obituary: Marilyn Chapman Ott 1949 – 2010 Marilyn Chapman Ott, beloved wife, mother, sister and grandmother, passed away 3, 2010 of complications from a brain aneurysm. She was surrounded by her family and loved ones at the time of her death. Marilyn was born May 24, 1949 in Lawrence, Kansas to Arthur Owen Chapman and Corma Gamble Chapman. She grew up in Omaha, Nebraska and Orem, Utah with her only sibling, Carol. She graduated from Orem High School in 1967 and received a BA degree in Elementary Education from BYU in 1971. She married Clarence Eric (Ric) Ott on 4, 1970, in the Salt Lake Temple. celebrated 40 wonderful years of marriage this year. Marilyn was kind, humble, down-to-earth, and dependable. She patiently raised nine children, living much of her life out of the limelight, serving simply and loving fully. was where she wanted to be. She was the steady rock in the hum and roar of a large family. She was a calming influence and voice of reason. Marilyn selflessly took care of her autistic son, Kevin, for 28 years. She looked forward to meeting him, whole and restored, in the next life. Marilyn was a wonderful grandma to her 19 grandchildren. She spent time with them, answering questions, reading books, and letting them have sleepovers with pancakes for breakfast. She never missed a birthday, baptism or baby blessing. Marilyn was a faithful member of the LDS Church. She had great faith in Jesus Christ and His Atonement. Over the years, she spent countless hours serving in numerous positions in the church, including camp director, Relief Society president, and her favorite: primary worker. Marilyn is survived by her husband, their nine children, Tammy Drager (Mike), Jeff Ott, Kristen Hogan (Wade), Rebecca Bringhurst (Spencer), Lynette Ott, Melissa Hansen (Derek), Bryce Ott (Robyn), Kevin Ott and Darren Ott, who is currently serving an LDS mission in Hondarus. She is also survived by her sister Carol Jean Ercanbrack and 19 grandchildren. services will be held , 8, 2010 at 11 a.m. at the Orem East Stake , 810 E 600 N, Orem, UT. Viewings will take place at Walker Sanderson , 646 E 800 N, Orem, on , 7, 2010 from 6-8 p.m., and from 9:30-10:45 a.m. on prior to the funeral at the stake center.
