Obituary: ROBERT R. OTTIS, Lieutenant Colonel, United States Army Reserve, Retired, was born in New Gulf, TX on 23, 1930. Died on , 28th, 2017. He was preceded in death by his parents, Emil J. and Nellie Fief Ottis of Bay City, TX, his infant brother, Herbert Edwin Ottis, and his son Anthony Ignatius Ottis of Kennesaw GA. He is survived by his devoted wife of 61 years, Phyllis Ancona Ottis, four children and seven grand children: Emil John Ottis II, and daughter Jessica her husband, Charlie Idol; Robert Ottis, Jr. ; Clara Nell Ottis Lambert and her children, Rachel and Larry (Trey) III; Yvonne Marie Ottis Hawkins and her three sons, Raymond, Marcus and Pierson; Daughter-in-law, Linda Ramirez Ottis and her daughter Christina; Sister-in-law, Terese Ancona Raia, along with many loving nieces, nephews, and Ottis and Fief cousins. Robert graduated from Bay City High School, Bay City TX, class of 1947; St. Marys University of San Antonio TX, class of 1951 with a BBA in Economics and an Army ROTC commission in the United States Army Reserve. Active Duty in the United States Army, 51 to 53. Thirteen months combat in Korea with the 25th Infantry Division, 69th Field Artillery Battalion. Graduated from the Army Command and General Staff in 1971, the Industrial of the Armed Forces in 1973. Retired as a Lieutenant Colonel, United States Army Reserve in 1979 after 28 years of service. Military decorations: Meritorious Service Medal; National Defense Service Medal; Korean Service Medal with two stars; Army Armed Forces Reserve Medal; United Nations Service Medal; South Korean Government Service Medal; South Korean War Veterans Award. He was very proud of his service to his country. He held life memberships in the Reserve Officers Association, The Military Officers of America Association; The 25th Infantry Division Association; The Korean War Veterans Association, the 75th Division Association, The Houston Military Affairs Committee and the Veterans of Foreign Wars post 8800, Startsville TX. Robert entered the life insurance business in 1956, became a Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) in 1966. Owned a Multiple Employers Trust health insurance brokerage agency, until the sale of that agency in 1985. He was a longtime member of the Society of Financial Service Professionals, and the National, State and Houston Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors. For many years was an active member of the St. Marys University Alumni board of directors and was elected President of the St. Marys Alumni Association in 1966. Robert and his wife Phyllis were honored by the Society of Mary as Affiliates in 1975. Former President of the Central Catholic Marianist Affiliates in San Antonio TX. Robert had a great interest in travel, cooking and photography. His travels were worldwide and his photos are a great remembrance. Since 1988 when his father, Emil J. Ottis of Bay City, died, Robert has managed his interest in the Ottis Familys rice farming properties in both Matagorda and Jackson Counties TX. Obituary: Ruth Ann Hoeft was born to Louis Martin Hoeft and Garnet Eugene Deel on 11, 1957, the middle daughter of three: Older sister Cathy, and younger sister Mary. She grew up in Traverse City, graduating from Traverse City Senior High School in 1975. Shortly after that, she reported for active duty with the U.S. Army, serving as a Legal Clerk from 10, 1975 to 7, 1978. While attending her MOS (military occupational specialty) course at Fort Ben Harrison, Indiana, she met her future husband, Ronald. were married in Traverse City, Michigan, on 10, 1976. Their first daughter, Nicole, was born in Landstuhl, Germany in 1980, the same hospital Ron was born in 23 years earlier, while Ron was stationed there. Ron was reassigned back to the United States, and the family was stationed at Fort Sam Houston, Texas, and then Fort Devens, Massachusetts. When Ron was medically separated from the Army, the family had already made the decision to return to San Antonio. moved in 1986. Their second daughter, Heather, was born in . Ruths first choice for the Army was to become a nurse, but there was going to be considerable delays in getting into the advanced training. Now that she had the opportunity, Ruth went back to school and successfully completed a course of study at St. Phillips and became a licensed vocational nurse. She worked at Northeast Baptist Hospital for 13 years and the VA Hospital for 6 years. Her last position was with Life Hospital, where she worked for almost two years. She found purpose in helping people who were sick and injured, and loved serving people this way. Ruth became a proud grandmother when Riley Alice was born on 11, 2009 (a much better reason to remember that day). Riley has been her joy these past six years, and has been one of the greatest reasons for fighting her cancer. Ruth is survived by her husband Ronald, daughters Nicole and Heather, granddaughter Riley, son-in-law Daniel, and two sisters, Cathy and Mary. A Memorial Service will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M. , 1, 2016 at the Redeemer Lutheran Church, 2507 Fredericksburg Rd. 78201. She will be buried at Fort Sam Houston with full honors at a later date. Obituary: Mary Jessie Dodd Ottinger, age 87, went home to be with the Lord on 22, 2015. She was surrounded by her loving family. Mary was born to Tom and Irene Dodd in Orange, Texas on 8, 1927. She had one brother, John. World War II, while working at the Naval station in Orange, Texas, she met the love of her life, Charles Ottinger. It was love at first sight. Mary never missed an opportunity to share the story of hat cute little Ensign with blue eyes who stole her heart away. Mary and Charles married on 29, 1947. had three children, Bonnie, Linda and Tom. Mary was a wonderful mother and a loving wife. All who knew her thought of her as a beautiful woman with a kindness and grace that radiated from within. Even as Alzheimers stole her bright and inquisitive mind, her beautiful smile continued to charm everyone she met. Her favorite phrase during the last several years was, Happy, happy. Mary raised her children to love the Lord and to realize that there were no limits in life as long as one did everything to the very best of their ability. She worked tirelessly to support Charles in his business, often waking up early on rainy mornings to make payroll for the construction crews. Mary loved music. She learned to play the piano at an early age and started dancing as a child. When she and Charles met, they started dancing as a couple. Their favorite dance tune was May I Have This Dance for the Rest of My Life? Mary is now waiting in Heaven for Charles to join her in their last dance for the rest of eternity. Mary had many interests: reading, current events, teaching childrens School, travel, interior decorating, gardening, drawing, painting and sewing. Mary was a natural artist. She instilled in her children a love of art and nature. She loved roses and had a wonderful rose garden. She frequently fashioned bouquets to share with friends and family. Mary is survived by her husband, Charles L. Ottinger; three children and spouses: Bonnie Gordon and Bob; Linda Headley and Tim; and her favorite son, Charles Thomas Ottinger. In addition, she is survived by her grandchildren and spouses: Heather Thiel and Kyle; Janna Grigorieva and Eugene; Chad Hoopingarner and Emily; Jen Amundgaard and Ben; Sean Phoenix and Krissy; and Jonathan Phoenix and Candice. She is also survived by seven great grandchildren: Olive Thiel; Kate and Callie Hoopingarner; Sophia and Dylan Amundgaard; Tyler and Charlotte Phoenix; and Nyjah and Kenai Phoenix. A Celebration of Life memorial service will be held on , 27th at 12:30 p.m. at Memorial Oaks in Houston. Following the service there will be a reception at Memorial Oaks.
