Obituary: Dan P. Ortiz, age 90, passed away peacefully on 9, 2015 surrounded by his loving family. Dan was born 2, 1924 in Abilene, Texas to Joe and Cruz Pasillas Ortiz. He proudly served in the United States Army Air Corp during World War II. Dan was a very compassionate person and would do anything to lend a helping hand. He and his wife Juana were members of the Primera Baptist Church in Abilene. He worked for the City of Abilene for 41 years, retiring as a Supervisor. He loved music and helped many young musicians explore and develop their musical talent. Dan was recently honored by his family and friends with a 90th birthday celebration complete with Mariachis, dancing and lots of food. His favorite times in life were when he was hosting family and friends at his home. Having just a 5th grade education himself, Dan was very proud of his two grandsons for receiving their college degrees. Dan was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Juana M. Ortiz; daughter, Julie Ann Tippie; brothers, Israel and Joe Ortiz; and sister, Lupe Gonzalez. Survivors include his sons, Danny M. Ortiz and Adolfo Ortiz of Abilene; two grandsons, Mauro Omar Ortiz and wife Rebecca of Abilene and Joseph Daniel Rodgers of Houston; three great grandchildren; son-in-law, Steve Tippie of Little Elm; brothers, Louis Ortiz and Moses Ortiz of Abilene and Eliseo Ortiz of Mesquite; and sisters, Victoria Casares of Chula Vista, CA, Cruz Jimenez, Corina Gonzales and Naomi Martinez all of Abilene and Josie Rendon and Minnie Martinez of Houston. Visitation will be held 6pm to 8pm , 12, 2015 at Elliott-Hamil , 542 Hickory Street. Services are scheduled for 10:30am at the Elliott-Hamil with burial following at Cedar Hill with Rev. Rick Carrasco officiating. Pallbearers will be Sam Ortiz, Jimmy Martinez, Jr., Gabriel Ortiz, Robert Ortiz, Joe David Jimenez and Henry Rendon. Cecilia De Ortiz nació el 8 de Mayo de 1947 en Bogotá, Colombia. Ella fué una niña muy inteligente y sociable; le encantaba jugar basketball y bailar. Obtuvo su grado de Bachiller del Colegio Mayor de Cundinamarca, y luego estudió Química en la Universidad Nacional de Colombia por cuatro años. Sus intereses incluían el amor por el basketball, el tennis, y viajar. También le gustaba mucho coser, cocinar y ayudar a todos los que lo necesitaban. Su gran fé siempre la guió en su vida. TRIBUTO A MI ESPOSA Cuando aún estabamos de novios le pedí que me regalara una fotografía suya para tenerla de recuerdo, ya que me iba a ausentar del país por un año debido a mi trabajo. Es un viejo amigo / inspirador de mis profundas penas / que se nota ausente cuando estás conmigo / y está presente cuando tú te alejas. Esto me empezó a enseñar su gran sensibilidad. Cecilia fue una gran persona a quien desde pequeña le gustó mucho el basketball, viajar y disfrutó mucho la buena música y el baile, a tal punto que en ocasiones cuando estabamos de fiesta y yo no podía bailar más por estar cansado, ella continuaba bailando sola. Le encantaba cocinar. También disfrutaba mucho jugando tennis. Cuando inmigramos a Houston, era tal su entusiasmo, que organizó un campeonato y nos puso a jugar a todos, familiares y amigos. Era una persona muy religiosa a quien le encantaba leer la biblia y disfrutaba con sus amigas el estudio y la comprensión de la misma. Amorosa madre y esposa, siempre atenta a nuestro hogar y también pendiente de sus amigas y de ayudar a todas las personas necesitadas. Después de 38 años de matrimonio va a ser muy difícil olvidarla. Siempre la amaré y la recordaré en mi mente y la tendré presente en mi corazón. Tu maravillosa forma de ser se ganó el corazón de muchísimas personas, y de esa siembra vimos los frutos especialmente durante la última etapa de tu vida, en la que todas esas manos generosas, que hoy nuevamente se hacen presentes, de una u otra manera aportaron su ayuda y su apoyo para ayudarnos a salir adelante en esta prueba difícil que nos tocó vivir. Sin embargo, nos duele saber que sufriste tanto durante esta batalla y aun así, nunca te quejaste ni cuestionaste por qué este mal te tocó a tí. Al contrario, le pusiste la cara valiente y lo luchaste hasta el final, dejándonos una gran lección de fé. A nosotros, nos queda la satisfacción de haber estado a tu lado cuidándote y acompañándote hasta el último momento, y de alguna manera nos tranquiliza saber que ya no sufrirás más, y que ahora gozas de la vida eterna junto a Dios y a tus seres queridos. Pero este paso no será fácil para nosotros. Por eso te pedimos que desde arriba nos ayudes y nos guíes para superar este dolor y esta pena tan grande que llevamos por dentro. Continua velando por nosotros desde el cielo, y recuerda que siempre te amaremos y te llevaremos en nuestros corazones. Y no te preocupes: Conservaremos la unidad familiar y cuidaremos de mi papá y de nuestros hermanos como tú nos enseñaste. Este no es un adiós, sino un hasta pronto; esperamos que cuando nos llegue nuestro turno de dejar esta tierra, tengamos la oportunidad de reunirnos nuevamente contigo. Hasta siempre Mamita querida.
