Obituary: Freddie Ray Oertli of New Braunfels passed away May, 6, 2015 from Post Polio Syndrome at Eden Hill . He was born May 26, 1933 in Austin, TX to Fritz and Lillie Ida (Siggel) Oertli. A 1952 graduate of Austin High School, he worked most of his life in oil and natural gas after serving in the Army in Korea and Okinawa. He married his beloved Frances Nowotny Ferguson on 29, 1979 and enjoyed many memories of love and laughter. He was active in Eagles Fraternal Organization, serving as Worthy President of the local Lodge 2999 and The Elks local Lodge 2279, serving as Exalted Ruler. He also was Director of the Legends Golf Group at Landa Park Golf Course. In addition, he was an active member, until his illness, of St. Paul Lutheran, serving as an usher for 30 years and in other positions. He is preceded by his parents, a sister, Genevieve Tart and a daughter, Rev. Karrie Oertli. He is survived by his wife, Frances, a daughter Tami Oertli Sewell and her husband David of San Angelo, TX. Step daughters Kathy and her husband, Laz Hernandez of Austin, TX, Beth and her husband, Forrester Smith of San Antonio. Sisters, Frieda and her husband James Davidson of Georgetown, TX and Rosie and her husband Stanley Robinson of Buffalo, TX, and 6 grandchildren, Joshua and Zachary Scott, Jennifer Buckley, Shara and Leslie Ticku and Captain Brian Hernandez, 6 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 1:30pm on , May 31, 2015 at Lux with Rev. Dr. David Tart presiding. A reception will follow at the funeral home. Obituary: Edwin Fritz Oertli, Sr., age 91, of Johnson City, Texas, passed away on , 12, 2014. Edwin was the fifth child born to Ernest and Amelia Oertli on 5, 1923 in Watson Springs, Texas. Raised by Ernest and his second wife, Willie Shirey, Edwin grew up in the Hill Country west of Austin. As a young man, Edwin worked in the Civilian Conservation Corps in Pflugerville, and went on to serve five years in the Navy. Edwin served in the South Pacific during World War II aboard the USS Pensacola, USS Columbia, and the USS Corregidor. He saw action in the Battles of Guadalcanal, Midway, BuinFaisi, Tassafaronga Iron Bottom Bay, Marshall Islands, Hollandia Operations, Saipan and Guam. At the end of the War, Edwin served in CASU-5 (Carrier Aircraft Support Unit) with Fighter Squadrons 41 and 66. Edwin married Betty Jane Bargsley on 1, 1945 and they lived on the hill in Oak Hill, southwest of Austin. had five sons: Gary, Terry, Randy, Eddie, and Bruce. Edwin worked for many years as a brick mason and was known for his accurateness. In later years, he liked to point out buildings he worked on at Blinn in Brenham as well as buildings in Killeen, Victoria, Station and other areas of Texas. His favorite pasttime was reading western novels especially those by Louis LAmour. Edwin and Betty moved to Mena, Arkansas, where they tried their hand at raising chickens. Texas eventually called them home and they settled in Johnson City. Edwin was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jane; his brothers, Ernest Oertli, Alvin Oertli, Bill Ostrick, George Ostrick, James Oertli; and sisters, Juanita Arnold, Patsy Branscum, Louise Toungate, and Katherine Haydon. Edwin is survived by his sons, Gary (Wanda) Oertli of Bertram; Terry (Nancy) Oertli, of Brenham; Randy (Mary) Oertli, of Bastrop; Eddie (Tyra) Oertli, of Johnson City; and Bruce (Shelly) Oertli, of Stanton, Kentucky. Edwin loved his family and kept an array of his 18 grandchildrens pictures in the dining room at home. He had 32 great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. Edwin is also survived by sisters and brothers, Curtis (Linda) Oertli of Victoria, Martha Faye (Charles) Dowdy, Jack Red Ostrick, and Stanley Ostrick. Edwin is also survived by his brothers-in-law, James (Mary Helen) Bargsley and John (Rawnie Sue) Bargsley all of Austin. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., , 18, 2014 at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks . services will be held at 10:00 a.m., , 19, 2014 in the Chapel of Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks . Obituary: It whispers … so listen Ginger Oenning lost her valiant battle with Cancer on 13 2009. She was born on 18, 1948 to Charles and Jackie Huntley, of Ft. Sill, Oklahoma. Ginger will be sorely missed not only by her devoted family and friends, but all who worked with her in the medical field as a Critical Nurse and those she cared so tenderly for throughout her life. Ginger began her extraordinary life with Lt. Lester Oenning of Quincy, Illinois during their marriage at Ft. Sam Houston, Texas on 16 1967. She traveled the world with Les and their 3 children, making sure they enjoyed a family life of incredible experiences and education, while building her own nursing career along the way. All who knew her will agree she possessed an unbelievable amount of energy and dedication to accomplish every goal she set. She was an incredible cook and hostess, and possessed an intuitive ability to create a beautiful home where everyone that entered felt her warm welcome. Animals were her children as well, and many an unfortunate waif found their castle with her. Kittens and dogs alike did not want to leave her side for fear of giving up her tender hands and sweet voice to another. She was an avid downhill skier, loved horseback riding, being a soccer mom and enjoying a sunny day at the beach. In her spare time you would find her with the daily crossword puzzles; trying new recipes on her family or shopping for that unique antique for the house. Ginger received her Two Year Degree from Cameron University, Lawton, Oklahoma in 1979. She completed her Bachelors in in 1988 at the University of South Florida, Tampa, and her Masters/Clinical Nurse Specialist Degree in 1999 at University of The Incarnate Word in San Antonio, Texas. She was published in a medical journal in 2003 and was a guest speaker on numerous occasions to nurses in the graduate program at the University of The Incarnate Word. She enjoyed mentoring and teaching student nurses at the Audie Murphy Memorial Veterans Hospital as well as working with the new interns – Baby Docs as she called them. Her 27 years of work extended to the Critical Units and Vascular Surgery. She loved nursing and strove to provide the best possible care for every patient she served. Ginger was a member of the Sigma Theta Tau, International Honor Society of ; and an active member of the Ovarian Cancer Coalition of America, San Antonio Chapter. Ginger is survived by her husband Les, devoted daughter Joy Christina of New York City; sons Matthew Huntley of San Antonio and Shane Michael of San Francisco; Grandson Ethan Patrick of San Antonio; and brothers Scott Kay Huntley of Austin, Richard Huntley of Michigan and Chad Huntley of San Antonio, TX. Her devoted love and strong pride for her children and husband will live with them forever. She was a wonderful mother who raised three children while pursuing her medical studies. She practiced medicine for over 50 years. She was one of the first physical medicine and rehabilitation residents to graduate from UTHSCSA. During her career she was a researcher as well as a clinician. She was on staff at the Baptist Medical of over 20 years. Kiem Hoa generously helped many people both inside and outside the realm of medicine. Mom spoke four languages-English, Indonesian, Dutch and Javanese. She played the piano well and had an angelic singing voice. Mom was also a wonderful cook. Her specialty was Indonesian cuisine. Her passions included spending time with her grandchildren, gardening and her cats. Most of all mom was a wonderful mother and wife. We will miss her loving ways and gentleness. We take comfort that her spirit will continue to guide us. Kiem Hoa is survived by her husband, Heng Oei; her sons, Thomas Oei and wife, Joan; David Oei and wife, Sue; her daughter, Mirah Ballard and husband, Steven: grandchildren, Kimberly Oei, Coleman Oei, Sara Ballard, Cori Ballard, James Oei and Laura Oei. |
