Died April 24, … More Information
John O'Connor, born September 4, 1945 died on April 24, 2011 in Texas. John was 65. Tags: #Effect #Next
Obituary: JOHN OCONNOR WAS BORN IN ST JOSEPH, MISSOURI ON SEPTEMBER 4, 1945.
HE DIED APRIL 24, 2011 AT THE AGE OF 65.

HE MARRIED NANCY LEA BAXTER ON FEBRUARY 6, 1965 AND THEY WERE MARRIED FOR A WONDERFUL 46 YEARS. THEY HAD FOUR KIDS: EENY, MEENY, MINEY AND WHOOPS, SO HE CALLED US. HE WAS A GREAT HUSBAND, FATHER, FRIEND, POPPY AND BUSINESSMAN.

HE ALWAYS SAID WE ALL HAVE A TICKET OUT OF HERE WE JUST DONT KNOW WHEN IT WILL BE PUNCHED AND UNFORTUNATELY HIS CAME WAY TOO SOON.

HE HAD SEVERAL ACCOMPLISHMENTS IN HIS LIFETIME AND MOST OF THEM WERE PERTAINING TO THE KIDS OF THE COMMUNITY.
HE WAS PRESIDENT OF THE LITTLE LEAGUE FOR SEVERAL YEARS AND HAD SPONSORED A TEAM FOR OVER 30 YEARS. HE WAS KNOWN FOR STARTING THE FIELDS OVER BEHIND THE COLT ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS. HE ALSO HELPED TO START THE GIRLS SOFTBALL PROGRAM.
BESIDES THE LITTLE LEAGUE HE ENJOYED GOING TO THE BASKETBALL GAMES AND SEEING THE LITTLE ONES GROW AND PROSPER ESPECIALLY THE ONES THAT WERE CHILDREN OF THE PARENTS THAT USED TO HANG OUT AT THE HOUSE WHEN THEY WERE LITTLE.

HE WAS ALSO A SPONSOR OF THE LEGACY FUND SINCE IT STARTED AT THE HIGH SCHOOL.

ANOTHER PROGRAM THAT HE WAS A TEAM PLAYER IN WAS THE TOYS FOR TOTS PROGRAM. ONE YEAR HE BOUGHT A STORAGE SHED FULL OF SHOES AND THERE WITH 1000 PAIRS TO DISTRIBUTE THROUGHOUT THE COUNTY.

COATS FOR KIDS WAS A BIG DEAL TO HIM EACH YEAR. HE WORKED WITH THE LIONS CLUB AND FOR SEVERAL YEARS HE WOULD PAY FOR THE CLEANING OF THE COATS BEFORE THEY GOT HANDED OUT.

ONE OF THE BIGGEST THINGS HE DID FOR THE KIDS WAS BEING A SPONSOR AT THE BURNET COUNTY LIVESTOCK SHOW EVERY YEAR SINCE 1976. HE LOVED WATCHING THE KIDS GROW AND PRODUCE THIER ANIMALS EVERY YEAR AND HE LOVED SEEING THEM GROW UP. HE SOMETIMES SAW THREE DIFFERENT GENERATIONS GO THROUGH THAT RING. THIS YEAR THEY STARTED AN AWARD CALLED THE JOHN OCONNOR SPORTMANSHIP AWARD THAT WILL GO ON IN HIS NAME TO A CHILD THAT RAISES STEERS AND HAS GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP.

OTHER THINGS NOT PERTAINING TO THE YOUNG FOLKS ARE EMS, FIRE DEPARTMENT AND RELAY FOR LIFE. ANYTIME THERE WAS A FUNCTION HE WAS THERE TO HELP.

HIS FIRST JOB WAS IN A CATTLE SLAUGHER PLANT, AND FOR FUN SOMETIMES, HED PUT AN EYEBALL FROM A COW IN HIS LUNCH BOX, FOR NANCY TO FIND. IT USUALLY SCARED THE TAR OUT OF HER. HE ALSO WORKED FOR A CATTLE BUYING AND SALES COMPANY IN SIOUX CITY, IOWA FOR AWHILE TOO.

WHEN RETURNING TO MISSOURI, HE WORKED IN SALES, THEN STARTED WITH FIRESTONE. HE STARTED AS SERVICE MANAGER, AND ALWAYS GOT TOP BILLING FROM AKRON, OHIO, (CORPORATE OFFICE OF FIRESTONE) THEN ON TO, CREDIT MANAGER, AND HE CLEANED UP ALL THE PAST DUE BILLS, AND AGAIN GOT TOP ACCOMPLISHMENTS FROM THE MAIN OFFICE. HE WENT ON TO BECOME ASSISTANT MANAGER AND MANAGER, AND THATS WHEN HE KNEW IF HE COULD DO IT FOR FIRESTONE, HE COULD DO IT FOR HIMSELF.

HE OPENED HIS FIRST STORE IN WARRENSBURG, MISSOURI, AND LOVED IT THERE. HE WENT INTO THE BANK THERE AND ASKED THE PRESIDENT IF HE COULD TALK TO HIM, AND HE SAID I THINK YOUVE GOT A GOOD IDEA, LETS GO SEE IT, AND THAT IS WHEN HE GOT HIS FIRST BIG LOAN ON HIS SIGNATURE, AND HIS PROMISE TO PAY IT ALL BACK.

WHEN HE MOVED TO MARBLE FALLS IN 1976, HE OPENED OCONNOR TIRES AND IN 1981 THAT WASNT ENOUGH TO KEEP HIM BUSY SO HE OPENED THE LUBE CHANGERS RIGHT NEXT DOOR. WHILE THAT WAS GOING ON HE ALSO BUILT ELEVEN OTHER LUBE STATIONS, TEN IN TEXAS AND ONE IN KANSAS. HE WAS A MAN OF HIS WORD AND EVERYONE KNEW IT.

IN 1999 HE ESTABLISHED OCONNOR TRAILERS WHERE HE STILL WAS RUNNING IT FROM HIS CHAIR TIL THE VERY LAST DAY.

HE ALSO GOT HIS PILOTS LICENSE ALONG THE WAY AND HAD HIS OWN PLANE.

ONE OF HIS FAVORITE THINGS WAS GOING TO THE OLD FARTS TABLE OF KNOWLEDGE EVERY MORNING AT CHARLIES AND SOLVING THE WORLDS PROBLEMS. THAT WAS A GREAT WAY TO START THE DAY. IF SOMEONE STARTED TO TELL A JOKE, YOU CAN BET THAT HE HAD ALREADY HEARD THAT ONE. THERE WASNT A DAY THAT WENT BY THAT WE DIDNT GET A PHONE CALL SAYING WHAT IS THE JOKE FOR TODAY?

HE IS SURVIVED BY WIFE NANCY, DAUGHTERS PATTY KIRKPATRICK AND HUSBAND STANLEY, KIMMY WILSON AND HUSBAND NEIL, BOTH FROM MARBLE FALLS, TEXAS, JOHN OCONNOR AND WIFE KAREN FROM LLANO, TEXAS, SCOTT OCONNOR AND WIFE CARRIE FROM HUTTO, TEXAS, HIS MOTHER BETTY OCONNOR FROM MARBLE FALLS, TEXAS AND GRAND CHILDREN COOPER AND CODY WILSON, JACK CAHALANE, AND BRANTLEY AND BRAEDYN OCONNOR.

HE IS PRECEDED IN DEATH BY SONS JUSTIN LEE OCONNOR AND SCOTT RYAN OCONNOR.

PALL BEARERS WILL BE RAY CAGLE, JIM DIPPREY, STAN COLLIER, JOHNNY BERLIN, RITCHIE GIESECKE, AND WADE HIBLER. HONORARY PALL BEARERS ARE RON SCHREIBER, DUANE MICHEL, MARTIN McLEAN, JACK CAHALANE, CODY AND COOPER WILSON, BRANTLEY AND BRAEDYN OCONNOR.

IN LIEU OF FLOWERS PLEASE MAKE A DONATION TO JOHNNY OCONNOR MEMORIAL FUND c/o HIGHLAND LAKES LEGACY FUND P.O. BOX 234 MARBLE FALLS, TEXAS 78654.

ONE OTHER THING TO KEEP IN MIND IS WHEN EVER YOU HEAR A JOKE YOU CAN ALWAYS SAY, WONDER IF THAT ONE CAME FROM JOHNNY.

THANKS DAD FOR ALL OF THE GREAT MEMORIES AND ALL THAT YOU DID FOR ALL OF US. WE WILL MISS YOU DEARLY.

MOM ALWAYS SAYS, SHE HAD THE BEST LIFE ANYONE COULD HAVE continued...

Obituary: Hugh (Bud) OConnor, a resident of Austin for the last 41 years passed away on 20, 2014, after a long illness. He was born in Montezuma, New York on 23, 1931 to Charles A. and Mary Elizabeth OConnor. He was a graduate of Syracuse University and was commissioned in the U.S. Air Force upon graduation. He was a founding member and parishioner of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church in Austin. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Charles R. OConnor, a sister, Mary Elizabeth Magill and his devoted wife, Mary Ellen in 2007. He was a loving and caring father, grandfather and great-grandfather and will be sorely missed by his many friends and family.
Hugh lost his parents when he was only four, and was raised along with his brother and sister by his loving Aunt Helen. He grew up in beautiful upstate New York and worked extremely hard to reach his dream of attending Syracuse University. While at Syracuse he followed another dream, that of flying.
Upon graduation he was commissioned into the USAF. He attended flight training at Hondo Air Force Base in Texas, before being transferred to Vance AFB in Enid, Oklahoma. While at Vance, he graduated from flight school, earning his wings, and also meeting the love of his life, Mary Ellen. only three dates, Hugh and Mary Ellen became engaged and married on 9, 1956, a union that lasted 51 wonderful years. His next assignment carried him and Mary Ellen to Harlingen AFB, Texas where they spent the next three years.
Hugh left active duty in 1959. For the next three years, he served as an air traffic controller at Hobby Airport in Houston and flew C119s in the Air Force Reserves. His separation from active duty would be short lived however. In 1962, as the Vietnam conflict began to escalate, Uncle Sam called him back to active service and was soon moved to Stewart AFB in Newburgh, New York where Hugh flew C123s in support of the Air Defense Command. In 1964, he began flying C130s and was transferred to Yokota AFB, Japan. For the next two years, he flew reconnaissance missions for the NSA out of Vietnam, Korea and other sites in Southeast Asia.
His next assignment brought him to the States where he began flying the KC135 tanker out of Blytheville, Arkansas. In 1971 he was sent on a temporary duty to Cold Bay, Alaska where he served as Squadron Commander. Following his assignment in Alaska, Hugh was transferred to Grissom AFB, Indiana. a short stay in Indiana, Hugh moved to his last assignment - Bergstrom AFB, Austin where he retired from active duty in 1979. He left the Air Force with rank of Major and a number of very admirable accomplishments. Most notably, 7,000 flight hours logged, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Air Medal with 14 Oak Leaf Clusters, and the Vietnam Service Medal with 8 Battle Stars, along with numerous other awards and decorations.
Upon leaving the Air Force, Hugh became a real estate broker and enjoyed a successful career in residential real estate for over 25 years in the Austin and surrounding area.
Hugh is survived by his daughter, Kathleen OConnor Honeycutt and husband David of Cedar Park, son Patrick OConnor and wife Delores of Lockhart, and daughter Maureen OConnor Reyes and husband Joe of Austin. Ten grandchildren, Jennifer Storm, Jessica Cartwright, Julie Barnett, Hayley Honeycutt, Ryan Patrick OConnor, Kaitlin OConnor, Pierce OConnor Laura Reyes, Sarah Reyes, Allison Reyes and nine great-grandchildren.

Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held , 23, 2014 at 7:00 P.M., in the Chapel of Cook Walden/Forest Oaks . Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M., , 24, 2014 at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church. Interment will be at 9:30 A.M., at Fort Sam Houston National in San Antonio.
