Obituary: Hazel Proffitt Ownby, age 98, of Knoxville entered heaven on 28th following a brief illness. She was a resident of South Knoxville for over 75 years. A graduate of Tennessee Wesleyan and the University of Tennessee, she was a teacher in the Knox School System for over 30 years serving at High Bluff, New Hopewell, and Doyle Middle School. Hazel was a long time member of Meridian Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Howard Ownby; parents, Joe and Inda Fox Proffitt; sister, Sara Sheffey; granddaughter Robin Hook. She is survived by sons Steve (Sharon) and Phillip (Cindy); grandchildren Brian (Diane) Ownby, Heather Ownby (Dustin Booth), Matthew Ownby (Steven Hardison), Andrea Canter (Bronson Netherly), Lauren (Kevin) Teesateskie and six great-grandchildren. Special thanks to caregivers Theresa, Kim, Mary, Virginia and Karen. Family will receive friends on , May 1, 2017 at 5:00- 6:30 p.m., followed by a Celebration of Life at Berrys on Chapman Highway. Obituary: Dorothy (Dot) Ownby, age 88, of Knoxville, passed away , 13, 2015. She graduated from Farragut High School. She was of the Baptist faith and a member of Rocky Hill Baptist church. Dot was a devoted and loving wife until her husband Ralph Ownby passed away in 2009 after 57 years together. Dot had two daughters who she steadfastly supported, encouraged and loved with all her heart. She will be missed. Dot is survived by her children Gail Warner and her husband Roy Warner of Oxnard, California, Jane Nauman and her husband Zeke Nauman of Knoxville, Tennessee, and her granddaughters, Hannah Nauman of Knoxville, Tennessee and Casey Kerr of Anchorage, Alaska. She is also survived by her brothers and sisters (Marjorie, Clarice, Max, Henry, Ruth, Paul, Ray and Ralph) and several nieces and nephews. A very heartfelt thank you goes to Vanessa Finney, who faithfully cared for her in her last weeks and to Knoxville Smoky Mountain Hospice Services. The family will receive friends on , 17 from 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm, Memorial Service at 2:00 pm at Berry Highland Memorial, 5313 Kingston Pike, Knoxville, Tennessee 37919.
