Obituary: Betty Joyce Owen, 77, of Germantown, formerly of Byhalia, MS, passed away 6, 2010. The family will receive friends beginning at 11:00 a.m. , 9, until the funeral services begin at 12 Noon at Meadow Brook Baptist Church, 3115 Old Pigeon Roost Road, Byhalia, MS. The interment will be at 3 p.m. in the Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church outside New Albany, MS. Mrs. Owen was a homemaker and member of Meadow Brook Baptist Church where she was the pianist for many years. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clovis and Ethel Jarrett and her sister, Francis Davenport. She is survived by her husband, Roy G. Owen; two daughters, Renee Barton (Rex) of Bartlett, TN and Stephanie McKee (Arlan) of Collierville, TN; her son, John Owen (Cathy) of Waynesville, NC; her brother, Charles Jarrett (Velma) of Myrtle, MS; seven grandchildren, Amanda Holcomb, Michael Holcomb, Ashley Goudy, Halle Owen, Chad Barton, Heather Owen, and Jeff McKee; and six great grandchildren, Chelsea, Skylar, Jonathon, and Christian Holcomb, Saige Jennings, and Jaxon Heimer. Obituary: Arlin Winfield Owen, 84 years old passed to his rest in Jesus on 1, 2011, in dale, TN. Arlin was born 1, 1926 in Crumpler, Ashe , NC. Arlin was the oldest of 9 children born to Harvey Glee and Darrie McNeil Owen. The Great Depression was especially tough in the Appalachian Mountains forcing the family to relocate to Peach Bottom, Pennsylvania (near Lancaster). A lifelong Christian, Arlin joined the Seventh-day Adventist Church while attending Plainfield Academy in New Jersey. During his junior year at Plainfield, he was drafted into the military. Arlin is a Veteran of World War II serving as a Hospital medic in Trinidad. Upon an honorable discharge from the Army, Arlin and Eleanor Mae ( ) Prutzman were married on 12, 1946. This loving marriage continues to inspire friends and family. had 8 children and were married 64 years. Shortly after the war, Arlin decided to attend Madison located about 10 miles north of Nashville, TN. While attending Madison their first child Loa was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy. A decision was made to move to Western Pennsylvania to be close to family and seek expert care from Crippled Childrens Hospital in Pittsburgh. For nearly 50 years, Arlin lived in Western Pennsylvania (Washington ) where he worked as a masonry contractor and farmer in Avella, PA. Arlin was a respected bricklayer and took great delight in teaching many young people how to lay brick while also teaching them life lessons. He was active and committed to his church family throughout his life. Arlin is credited with helping to build at least 5 churches in his career. His love for his Lord is evident in that he served the church as a teacher, deacon, and elder, and was known as a serious student of the Bible. Arlin moved to dale, TN, to be closer to family in 1997. He enjoyed the many visits of children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Arlin is survived by his wife, ; 8 children: Loa, Wayne, Loretta, Ken, Linda, Roy, Terry, and Richard. He is also survived by 20 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. In addition, Arlin is survived by 3 brothers and 3 sisters. The family will receive friends at the Valley View Chapel of Chattanooga 4, 2011 from 6-8 services will be at 11:00 in the dale Community Church. under the direction of Chattanooga , Crematory & Florist-Valley View Chapel, Chattanooga, TN. |
