Obituary: James E. Overturf, 92, of Chattanooga died , 11, 2015 at his home. Mr. Overturf was retired from Maytag after 35 years of service. He was a member of Tyner United Methodist Church and the Margaret Pennington School Class. Mr. Overturf was a World War II, U.S. Army veteran, serving in the First Infantry Division The Big Red One. He was in the Special Forces in the pacific theater of operations, island command. Survivors include his wife Elaine Overturf; son, Douglas Overturf; daughter, Shari Van Baale; sister, Ruth Rawson; several grandchildren and great grandchildren. services will be held , 15 at 11:00 am in the East Chapel of Chattanooga . Interment will follow in the Lakewood Memory Gardens, East. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 9-11 morning. Mr. Overturf was born in Franklin , IL to the late John and Eleanor Bailor Overturf on 1, 1944. He was a member of Southmore Baptist Church where he had served as a deacon and was a retired Master Plumber with Plumbing Association Local #17. Mr. Overturf is survived by his wife, Johnnie Elaine Overturf; daughters, Sandra Faye Smith and Lisa Elaine Snyder; sons, Robert Ray Horn and Kevin Wayne Overturf; sisters, Irene Overturf and Louise Chapman; brother, Gordon Overturf; 9 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
