Obituary: Betty J. Overly was a modest woman, quiet and observant in her ways. She was trustworthy and traditional in her approach to her life and in her relationships. She was tough-minded with the kind of stick to it attitude that earned the respect of all who knew her. She was also a woman who was meticulous, carefully disciplined, and orderly in virtually everything she undertook. Realistic about life, she was always at the ready, prepared to take on responsibility. She was the daughter of Irma and Dominick Ross. Betty grew up in Cleveland, Ohio. Betty was raised with one sibling. She had one younger brother, Bill. Betty was usually involved in all sorts of activities with her siblings. She and her siblings experienced rivalries typical of a growing family, but they shared many life experiences over the years. As a young girl, Betty had a number of interests. Like most children, she enjoyed playing and making up games. She was curious about the world around her and was often eager to explore it. She was part of a friends club with whom she still kept in touch. However, to Betty, the most fun to be had was simply playing and spending time with her friends. A typical teenager, Betty had a fairly happy high school experience, making that critical transition from adolescence to adulthood. She enjoyed some classes more than others, having favorite subjects and teachers. Always considered a good friend to those she knew, Betty enjoyed a broad group of acquaintances and several very close friends during her lifetime. While growing up, some of her best friends were Dawn, Jane and . Later in life, she became friends with Esther. Betty worked hard to be a good mother to her children and she did her best to fulfill their needs. Betty was blessed with three children, three daughters, Lynne, Debby and Beth. Another blessing for Betty was the gift of seven grandchildren, Jenny, Chris, Dan, Amy, Taylor, Jessica and Samantha. Fortunately, Betty enjoyed what she did for a living. Showing a strong work ethic, Betty worked diligently and did her best to succeed in her career. Her primary occupation was customer service representative. She worked 25 years for American Hospital/Baxter. Betty always sought to be a team player, doing what was necessary in order to get the job done. Betty enjoyed her leisure time by taking part in various hobbies. Her favorite pursuits were cross stitch, needle point, sewing, quilting, crafting, exercising at the "Y" and golfing. She was content to enjoy her favorite pastimes alone but was also willing to share her interests with others. Betty found pleasure in sports. Recreational sports included exercising and swimming with all the "Y" ladies. Betty was also something of a sports fan and enjoyed following her favorite events whenever she had the chance to do so. Throughout her life, Betty was a doer and was always actively involved in professional and community organizations. Throughout her later years, Betty served food at Bessies Kitchen, was a volunteer at P. A. D. S., was a member of United Methodist Church, served on her condo board, the Baxter Retirement Board and as an election judge. Betty was a woman who took pride in upholding her beliefs. So it is little wonder that she took an active role in her community, Betty helped with the Des Plaines 4th of parade, she rode a motorcycle in the parade. Bettys faith was important to her. She was a member of Zion Methodist Church-Zion, Central Methodist Church-Skokie and First United Methodist Church-Des Plaines. Betty enjoyed traveling and time away on vacations. It was a chance for her to renew and relax, to visit new places and experience new things. Favorite vacations included traveling to Alaska and Hawaii. Betty was a lover of animals and cherished her pets. Bettys childhood cats name was Rusty. Later she had cats Toby and Max. Betty passed away on 14, 2009 at home in Des Plaines. Betty fought a brave battle against cancer. Betty was laid to rest in Ft. Sheridan . Simply stated, Betty was a good and kind person, an individual who will for all time be remembered by her family and friends as being a caring and giving person, someone who was a vital part of their lives. Betty leaves behind her a legacy of life-long friendships and many cherished memories. Everyone whose life she touched will always remember Betty J. Overly. |

Obituary: Normal- Robert L. Overfelt, 89, of Normal, Illinois passed away 10, 2013. Born May 15, 1924 in Alluwe, Oklahoma to James L. and Maude (Herron) Overfelt, he married Betty McMains 5, 1947 in Miami, Oklahoma. She survives. Also surviving are : daughters, Peggy McLean of Mt. Zion, Illinois and Kathy Riva of Wimberley, Texas; grandchildren, Stephanie (Lance) Alcorn of Bloomington, Illinois, Jennifer Tate of Mt. Zion, Illinois, Jeremy McLean of Mt. Zion, Illinois, and Christopher Watkins of San Diego, California; five great grandchildren and three sisters. He was preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters and one son-in-law. Robert was retired from Texaco Oil where he was a pipeline District Superintendant . He was also an Army Air Force veteran of WWII. Services will be conducted 2:00 pm , 14, 2013 at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, with visitation one hour prior. Eastlawn is in charge of arrangements.
