Obituary: Olson, Robert N., 83, formerly of Hayward, passed away on , 19, in Decatur, GA surrounded by his family. Bob was born 14, 1927 to Norman and Violet (Thompson) Olson in Hayward, WI. He graduated from Hayward High School. He served in the Navy in 1945 and 1956 during World War II. He was stationed in Guam. Art was Bobs life. He studied art at the University of Minnesota, Lake Superior Art in Duluth, MN, and at art workshops across the nation. Bob owned and operated Bob Olsons Indoor and Outdoor Advertising in Hayward for over 50 years. Bob married Mable Thoni on 27, 1951 in Hayward, WI. Since the 1950s, Bobs sign and billboard creations have helped to define the look of the Hayward Lakes Area. His use of colors and lettering were unique and instantly recognizable, due to their quality representation of the advertisers business. He was and artist from head to toe; practicing his craft not only through his professional work, but also through numerous paintings that he created for his own enjoyment, on assignment for others, and often gave away as a gift to friends and family. While Bob enjoyed the beauty of the northwoods, he also appreciated a variety of other climatic environments, often splitting time between Hayward, Stewart, FL, and Pahrump, NV. As with Hayward, he left behind a part of his legacy in those locations. A History of the Automobile mural that he created in the 1950s is still on display in a Stewart, FL museum, and a variety of paintings from his time in Pahrump and Hayward are on display in numerous homes throughout the country. Many of those paintings were originally displayed in art shows crafted exclusively for his work. Throughout his career, his artwork has had national exposure. When choosing the settings for his painting compositions, Bob located quiet places that he would like to be at himself. Bobs style in his original work is loose and impressionistic. He has served on the Art Council in Pahrump, NV, the Hayward City Council, and was a member of the Hayward Chamber of Commerce in Hayward, WI. He was a member, baptized, and confirmed at First Lutheran Church in Hayward. Bob loved spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by all. Bob is survived by; his wife, Mable of Pahrump, NV; one daughter, Susan (Ken) Loomis of Dallas, TX; one son, Michael Olson of Atlanta, GA; three granddaughters, Erika Loomis Hayes, Erin Loomis Dreiling and Angela Loomis, all of Dallas, TX; one brother, Donald (Janene) Olson of Central Point, OR; and one sister, Betty (Brent) Snodgrass of Naples, FL. He was preceded by his parents; one sister, Shirley Jordan; and one brother, Richard Olson. services for Bob will be held on , 27 at 11 a.m. at Anderson-Nathan-Koerpel in Hayward, WI with Pastor Scott Ludford officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood in Hayward. were entrusted to Anderson-Nathan-Koerpel . under the direction of Anderson-Nathan-Koerpel , Hayward, Wisconsin. |

Obituary: Lowell W. Olson 28, 1930 – 28, 2014 Lowell W. Olson passed away peacefully in the evening of 28, 2014 at the age of 83 after a short illness. He is survived by his sons, Theodore Reid Olson of Jacksonville, Florida and Frank Reid Olson of Tucker, Georgia; his grandsons, Stephen Reid Olson and Carter Andrew Olson; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife, Stephanie Reid Ray Olson; his brothers Vernon Mark Olson and Reed Woolley Olson; and his sisters Lois Olson Larson and Alice Olson Walsh. Born in Salt Lake City in 1930 just as the Great Depression began, Lowell was a self-proclaimed “son of a bishop”, the youngest (and admittedly rowdiest) of 5 children born to Latter-day Saint Bishop Oscar Mark Olson and his wife, Grace Goddard Woolley. Those lean years, where Lowell’s father earned but “a nickel and a bucket of milk a week” and even had a paper route for decades as a second job to make ends meet, honed his self-reliance and superior work ethic, traits that lasted him his whole life long. Lowell always charted his own path and seldom did what others expected of him. He often could be found escaping out the back of his father’s local Latter-day Saint chapel on mornings. At 15, a full year before he was legally able to drive, he saved up $600 ($7800 in today’s dollars, a feat for any 15-year-old) and bought his first car, a Ford Model T. He drove freely around the streets of Salt Lake City for that year despite having a “baby face” and no license, and hid the car from his parents down the street until he turned 16. According to him, they never found out about it. Lowell was extremely proud of his purchase and the freedom it gave him, despite the fact that its radiator constantly had to be filled with water and often needed a downhill slope to even get started. Against the wishes of his parents who wanted him to go on his 2-year-long Latter-day Saint mission trip after high school, Lowell then enrolled in the University of Utah. At the “U” as he affectionately referred to it, he wooed many women, joined the Sigma Nu fraternity and became the chapter’s Treasurer, and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting. He completely financed his undergraduate education, working as many as 5 jobs at once to do so. college graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy in 1953, graduating from Officer Candidate School in Rhode Island and earning the rank of Lieutenant. He was then stationed at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. He served aboard the seaplane tender USS Salisbury Sound as a Gunnery Officer, where he completed several tours of duty in the South China Sea. He made many friends in the Navy who referred to him affectionately as “Lo-Lo” or “Oley”. One of those many friends he made even helped him enroll in the Navy, by giving Lowell the eye chart to memorize in advance of his physical. Lowell’s extreme nearsightedness would have likely prevented his enlistment otherwise. an honorable discharge from the Navy, Lowell took a year to himself and traveled completely around the world on his own, hitchhiking for a good portion of it. He often recalled his travels, especially to Europe and India, with great fondness. He developed a special appreciation for Eastern religion and philosophy during his trip to India, and would often cite “the doctrine of the transmigration of souls” and quote verses from the Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam. returning home, he enrolled in Georgetown University Law School, earning his law degree in 1960. Before leaving law school, Lowell met the love of his life, Stephanie Reid Ray, at a party in Washington D.C. Lowell made such an impression on Stephanie the first time they met, that Stephanie went home that evening and immediately informed her roommate, "I'm going to marry that man!" A few short months later, she did exactly that. Stephanie and Lowell had two sons together, and remained passionately in love until her untimely death in 1980. the honeymoon, Lowell then worked as a Labor Reporter for Prentice-Hall Publishing and was assigned to the Washington, D.C. bureau, where he covered the U.S. Supreme Court, the National Labor Relations Board, and House and Senate Labor Committee meetings. He then worked as a trial attorney for the National Labor Relations Board in Houston, Texas before moving to Atlanta and becoming a partner at the labor law firm of Constangy, Brooks & Smith where he worked for over 20 years. Lowell retired early from the practice of law in 1985 and enjoyed a lengthy and exciting retirement filled with sailing, skiing, romance, driving his jet-black Porsche 911 Targa around Atlanta at high speeds, and spoiling his beloved grandsons Reid and Carter. A service celebrating Lowell’s life will be held on , 9, 2014 at H.M. Patterson & Son -Oglethorpe Hill Chapel, 4550 Peachtree Road, Atlanta, GA 30319 at 3:00 p.m., followed by a reception. Lowell will then be interred at the Salt Lake City next to his older brother Vernon (“Vonnie”), of whom he was so fond. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a donation to Feed the Children, one of Lowell’s favorite charities. The family would also like to thank all the doctors, nurses and staff at Emory Select Specialty Hospital who cared so well for Lowell in his final days. |

Jeanette married John Olson in 2000. enjoyed spending their time together traveling, volunteering, helping others, and spending time with family and each other. John passed away with Jeanette by his side in after a battle with cancer. Jeanettes family was the light of her life. Family was everything to Jeanette. Theres a saying - Treat your family like friends and your friends like family. Jeanette truly did this. She had multiple families, including her church family and friends. Jeanette was the nucleus of her own family. She was a wonderful mother and was always there for her children throughout the years. She always adored her family, and they adored her. Family gatherings were held throughout the years at her house and they were always filled with warmth and laughter. She made sure there were always home made birthday cakes baked with love, personalized gifts that she made with her sewing machine, and finding time to help with school and projects. Even now, there are at her home some already-completed Christmas gifts that shed made before she got sick. Jeanette knew how to express her love with unselfish generosity and never hesitated to do so. All of her children and grandchildren have so many wonderful warm memories because of their loving mother and Gramma. Jeanette was very involved in her church family at Holy Cross Catholic Church. She was involved in the Holy Cross Alter Society, Womens Club, Young at Heart, Adoration of Blessed Sacrament, Respect Life Gift Shop, Ecumenical Ministry, and the Stephens Ministries, and was also a confirmation sponsor for a few people, including one of her grandsons. She got enjoyment from helping others. Jeanette lived in the same Tucker community for 41 years and had so many friends whom she has loved and have considered a part of her family. She loved getting out and walking her dogs - it was a way to see her friends as well as get some exercise. Jeanette never met a stranger. She was truly kind and generous to everyone, and enjoyed meeting new people and learning about their lives. You couldn see Jeanette without noticing the ever-present smile on her face and feeling the genuine love that she gave so freely. Jeanettes illness and diagnosis took everyone by surprise, but she accepted the illness and never complained or questioned Gods plans for her. Her faith remained strong and never wavered, knowing that her Lord and Savior had wonderful plans for her. Her legacy of love will live on in the hearts of those whom she loved and those that loved her. We will all try to carry on her example of genuine caring, warmth and love. Each of our lives has been so enriched by having Jeanette as a part of it, and she will be dearly missed by all her families. |
