Obituary: John M. OBrien, 68 of Tallahassee, died 20, 2014. John was born 13, 1945 in Strasburg, PA to Michael and Dorothy (Billger) OBrien and moved to Tallahassee from Daytona Beach, FL. John is a graduate of FSU with a B.S. Degree in Law Enforcement. He continued his education at Eastern Kentucky University where he received his Masters Degree in Criminology. John used his education to serve his community having worked with the FSU Police Dept. He then went on to for the Leon Sheriffs Office and finally retired in 1999 as Chief of Law Enforcement with the Florida State Department of Agriculture. John was fiercely proud of his Irish Heritage that he shared with his daughter, Jennifer. John was an avid hunter and enjoyed hunting and fishing with his sons, Daniel and Matt. He especially enjoyed time spent watching his granddaughter, Carmen play the piano. John was united in marriage in 1992 to his wife, Crystal who resides in Tallahassee. He is also survived by his son, Daniel OBrien of Tallahassee; his daughter, Jennifer Principe of Orlando; his step-sons, Kerry (Susanna) Boguszewski of Seattle, WA and Matthew (Tina) Odom of Monticello, FL and his eleven grandchildren, Brianna, Maya, Zachary, Mary Catherine, Carmen, Logan, Kaitlin, Liam, Ivka, Anica and Nikola. Friends will be received from 12 noon \ 1:00 pm at Good Shepherd Catholic Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated that day at 1:00 p.m. followed by a reception in the parish hall. Interment will take place in Culleys Meadowwood Memorial Park that day at 4:00 pm. under the direction of Culley's MeadowWood , Tallahassee, FL. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John's memory to either Big Bend Hospice or to the American Diabetes Association. |

Obituary: Joan Gifford OBrien, 87, of Cape Coral joined her late husband Paul 28, 2015. She was born in Stratford, CT in 1927 to the late George and Margaret Gifford. Joan married Paul in Bridgeport, CT in 1950. She raised her six children in Fairfield, CT. and moved to Cape Coral with her husband and two youngest children in 1977. Joan worked for the Lee Voters Registration for many years. She was an active member of St. Andrew Catholic Church, Senior in N. FT. Myers, and a beloved Chaperone for the Royal Lancers Drum & Bugle Corps. Joan loved her children unconditionally. She had a gift to make you smile, feel normal, and want to carry on. She was always proud of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was full of laughter, love, and true authenticity. Her hope was that her family will follow the path she paved as the generations continue to grow. She was preceded in death by her daughter Margaret Ann. Survivors include her six children; Paul (Pam) OBrien, Carolyn (Dennis) Kardos, Kathy (Marty) OShea, George (Melissa) OBrien, Marylou (Ruben) Irizarry and Patrick (Heather) OBrien, 14 grandchildren; Tim, Kevin, Luke, Joy, Joe, Mike, Danny, Carrie Anne, Matthew, Tara, Ben, Zane, Jackson, and Anthony, ten Great Grandchildren; Ashlyn, Caedmon, Rakiyah, Stephan, Isabelle, Emma, Macie, Ethan, MacKenzie, and Logan. Two sisters; Nancy and Beverly and her dog Beaux. services will be celebrated 6:00 PM 30, 2015 at Fuller Metz . The family will begin receiving friends at 5:00 PM.
