Obituary: Orville T. Northington, 89, born in Altus, Oklahoma, 12, 1926, passed away on 12, 2016 at the Spanish Peaks Medical in Walsenburg, Colorado. He was a lifelong farmer, water well driller, and World War II veteran where he served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Randall in the Pacific theater of war. Upon an Honorable Discharge from the Navy he married Mildred A. Atnip and resided in Oklahoma and Texas before moving to Deming, New Mexico, where he spent most of the rest of his life.

Orville entered the service with the US Navy on 28, 1944 in Fabens, Texas, El Paso . completing boot camp and recruit training, he was assigned to the USS Randall APA 224, where he served his entire duty. Orville held the following ratings, AS-Apprentice Seaman, S2C- Seaman Second Class, S1C-Seaman 1st Class, Cox-Coxwain. Orvilles awards, citations, and campaign ribbons include China Service Medal, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Navy Occupation Service Medal with Asia and Europe clasp and the National Defense Medal. He was honorably discharged on 7, 1946 at Naval Base TI San Pedro, California.

Orville married Mildred Atnip in Colorado Springs, Colorado on 18, 1946. moved to Oklahoma and Texas where he worked several farms including the family farm in Lubbock, Texas. farmed west Texas until 1956, when he rented two farms in Deming, New Mexico. It was during this time, Orville became known for his First Bale of Cotton in Luna four years in a row. In 1970, he started Northington Drilling, a water well drilling business. He managed and operated the drilling business until its sale in 1988. Orville eventually purchased both of the farms he had been renting and continued to farm until his retirement. He was an avid fisherman, gardener, inventor and poet.

He is survived by his wife, Mildred, brother Charles of Lubbock, Texas, daughter Shirley Stevens of Colorado Springs, Colorado, son Kris of Las Cruces, New Mexico, son Tracy of Albuquerque, New Mexico, son Travis of Wichita, Kansas, 11 grandchildren, and 22 great grandchildren. Preceded in death by brothers Garland, Hartsell, Richard, Norris, Burlie Ray, and sister, Frances Fletcher.

A viewing will take place , 19, 2016 from 4:00-5:00 pm, at Swan-Law Directors, 501 N. Cascade Avenue, Colorado Springs. Burial will be at the Fort Logan National , 4400 W. Kenyon Avenue in Denver, Colorado on , 20, 2016, at 11:15 am, Pavilion C.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be considered for the following: Friends of the World War II Memorial in Washington, DC or Farm Aid.

Obituary: William Jacob Northam was a modest man, quiet and observant in his ways. He was trustworthy and generous in his approach to his life and in his relationships. He was tough-minded with the kind of stick to it attitude that earned the respect of all who knew him. He was also a man who was meticulous, carefully disciplined, and orderly in virtually everything he undertook. Realistic about life, he was always at the ready, prepared to take on responsibility.

His parents were David and Verna Jean Northam. Will was raised in California. He was brought up to be self-confident and dependable. These were traits that would serve him well throughout his life. He had three younger sisters, Toni, Kathy, and Judy. Will was always consistently loyal to his family.

As a child, Will developed a variety of interests, and the things he enjoyed doing he did well. He was always curious about the world around him and was often eager to explore it. Will enjoyed model airplanes, board games and watching "Star Trek" on television. He was a Cub Scout and in the math club and he played the saxophone in the high school band. In his spare time he liked to collect baseball cards and play basketball.

He graduated from Watsonville High School in 1972. Will was a very logical person who enjoyed learning about factual information. Using his exceptional memory, he was able to learn much through observation. Will always seemed to have a command of the facts and was able to make it seem as though he could easily master any problem that might be presented to him.

Will was a scholarly person and enjoyed the rigors of an academic life. He first attended Gavilan in Gilroy, California from 1972 to 1974, receiving an A.S. in Pre- Pharmacy. He then joined the Army. He went on to earn his Bachelor of Science in Biology (Microbiology) at the University of Texas at San Antonio in 1981. He also pursued graduate school, earning his Master of Science in Pharmacology at the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences at the University of Texas,San Antonio, in 1985. His masters thesis was "Down-Regulation of the Beta Adrenergic Receptor-Coupled Adenylate Cyclase System in Rat Astrocytes in Culture". He went on to attend the University of Texas School of Public , Houston TX, receiving a PhD. in Disease Control and Toxicology.

Will was an Army veteran. He served during the latter years of the Vietnam War. Through his hard work and dedication, he achieved the rank of Sergeant, E5. His results-oriented approach to things made him committed to the job, and he understood well his role in serving his country. He was very proud of his service in helping to airlift refugees out of Vietnam and bring them to the United States. Will served as a Medical Technologist, Clinical Laboratory Manager and did microbiology research.
He was awarded 2 U.S. Army Commendation Medals, a Humanitarian Service Medal, Meritorious Unit Citation, 2 Good Conduct Medals, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal and the National Defense Medal. (10% Disabled Veteran) Will served at Ft. Lewis Army Post, Ft. Sam Houston Army Post and also spent a year in Germany.

Compassionate and devoted to Janet, he took the responsibility of marriage to heart, giving it his total commitment. He was a source of strength to Janet and using his gifts at nurturing one-on-one relationships, he worked hard to make his new family, including step-children Emily, Aaron, and Theresa happy. Although they were not his own children, he certainly treated them as though they were. He was extremely proud of Aarons service in the Army, and was also very proud of all of Emilys accomplishments. Theresa always kept him entertained. He was also very happy when niece Amanda moved into the neighborhood. loved him in return, and he did anything and everything that he could for them.

Will greatly enjoyed what he did for a living. He was a hard worker who expected the same in return from his co-workers. He was skilled at working effectively in small groups and in one-on-one situations as well as handling solo assignments efficiently. Always able to attend to the task at hand, William was excellent at meeting deadlines. He was an efficient worker, one who paid careful attention to detail. He was employed for the past five years by Cardinal , serving as Director of Manufacturing Quality Nuclear Pharmacy Services. His office was in Dublin, Ohio, while he maintained his home in Denver. He was previously employed by Bonfils Blood , Denver, CO., as a Senior Scientist, and then as Vice President, R&D. Will also had been employed by the U.S. Airforce, Epidemiology Division in San Antonio TX as a supervisor of Diagnostic Virolgy, GS-11, from 1985-1988. He also worked for Baxter care Corporation as a product manager from 1988- 1992. From 1992 to 2000 he was Vice President, Operations, for Esoterix, Inc., a Virus Reference Laboratory.

Will liked to experience things first-hand as well as learn about them. This trait carried over into his hobbies. During his time away from work, he spent most of his time with Janet, as they shared many common interests. loved camping, hiking, flyfishing, hunting, golfing, and enjoying fine wines. He also enjoyed woodworking and was looking forward to doing many projects in the future. While living in Texas, Will had also enjoying boating and sailing. Will was an active member of Trout Unlimited, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, and SASS. He and Janet also enjoyed the opera together. shared fond memories of having met on a blind date, with that date being a night at the opera. had season tickets for Opera Colorado, and also for the Central City Opera.

Will found pleasure in sports. He would watch his favorite sporting events whenever he got the opportunity. Tops on continued...
