Obituary: Elez Ndreu Feb. 4, 1929 - Mar. 8, 2015 Resident of Monterey Elez Ndreu, resident of Monterey for almost 50 years, passed away 8, 2015 after a brief illness, having maintained his stubbornness and sense of humor to the end. Elez was born in Peshkopi, in northern Albania to a noble family in 1929. He was named after his renowned grandfather Elez Isufi Ndreu, an Albanian National Freedom Fighter, who was key to gaining Albanias independence as a nation. Elez fled Albania in 1946, after Communists targeted his family. He attained a PhD in Albanian Area Studies and a Masters in Linguistics from the University of Belgrade in the former Yugoslavia, and arrived in the United States in 1959 after having spent time in a refugee camp in Italy. He earned another Masters in Linguistics from Bloomington University in Indiana University. Elez was a Professor of Linguistics fluent in five languages, and taught Linguistics throughout his career, most of which was spent teaching Albanian and then Russian at the Defense Language Institute in Monterey. He was able to return to Albania in 2005 for a brief visit with his surviving relatives. Elez is survived by his two daughters, Naime and Dije (Jim) and his two beloved granddaughters, Deshira and Liriana. He is also survived by his brothers Skender and Ethem Ndreu of Albania, as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews in Albania, the U.S., Australia, and Turkey. Private services have already been held. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers a donation be made to ones favorite charity. The family would like to thank the CHOMP Palliative Team and nurses aide Tessa Stoeberl-Smith for their caring assistance. |

Obituary: Christiana Fri Ndiforchu, born 23, 1965 to John Achidi Awundaha Ndiforchu and Rebecca Manyi Ndiforchu was their eighth (8th) and last child. Her early childhood and teen years were spent in Cameroon and she was then brought to America in early 1989 to continue her education. She made a career choice of nursing which she dedicated herself to educationally and career tract wise. This plan took her through all phases of nursing education, training, and work. completing her initial nursing assistant training 12, 1989, she immediately began work as a licensed vocational nurse. By combining work with ongoing education, she became a registered nurse in 1996 and then worked with a number of hospitals including Kaiser, Harbor City where she functioned in the Medical/Surgical Intensive Unit 1996 to mid-2008. During that interval, she received her degrees of Bachelor of Science in , and Master of Science in , from Cal State, Long Beach by 2006. obtaining her certification as a Nurse Practitioner, she utilized these clinical skills for several years, and rose to the pinnacle of her career in 2008 when she became the Administrative Head of the Nurse Practitioner Program at the Los Angeles Veterans Administration Hospital, Westwood, California. 2013 brought new health challenges making shorter commutes necessary. So, she returned to clinical nurse practitioner work in the South Bay area. She was able to continue this until late 2015. Christies diagnosis of Lupus was first made in 2002. The impact of its clinical course on her health status did not begin to seriously surface until 2013. Progressively steeper challenges arose in late 2014, and she faced her ultimate battles in 2015. This time, she would return to Kaiser Harbor City, but in a different role; now she would be the patient. Ultimately, she succumbed to the ravages of her second stroke in May. During the early morning hours of May 21, 2015, she quietly slipped away after having fought a prolonged and courageous fight. Her quiet, yet commanding ways, and her beautiful, bright, engaging smile will leave lasting memories for everyone she encountered. Christie leaves behind her mother, 2 sisters, 3 brothers, sister-in-laws, brother-in-laws, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and loving friends who will all sorely miss her. Life is but a story Told in Volumes Three The Past, the Present, And the Yet-To-Be. The Past is all finished And laid away, The Present we are living day by day. Obituary: When Mrs. Carol Ann Nazionale walked into the room, those in her company felt energy, an enthusiastic spontaneity. This was just one example of who Carol was and how she impacted those around her. Carol was a clever and gregarious person who always sought out the finest attributes in other people. It was as if Carol wanted to share all of their experiences, revel in their lives and celebrate their discoveries. Carol was tireless and had boundless enthusiasm that would serve her well throughout her life. Carol was born on 3, 1944 at a hospital in Swisher, Iowa. She was the daughter of Lumir and Georgette Kulhavy. Carol was raised in Swisher, Iowa and Upland, California. Always at the ready with a good joke, she grew up to be quite a humorous person. While some who knew Carol might describe her as an idealist, her friends and family understood well that Carol was always in pursuit of lifes endless possibilities and opportunities available to her. Carol was raised with two siblings. She had two sisters, Kathleen and Marie who also proceeded her in death. Carol was very accepting and supportive of her family. She was perceived as the central person in her family in terms of keeping communication open between the family members. Whenever discord or tension arose within the home, Carol was typically the member who brought about resolution and harmony. These traits served Carol well in her adult life and, along with her wit, outgoing personality, and understanding of others, drew the admiration of many who knew her. As a young girl, Carol was able to empathize and identify with a vast array of people and personality types. This quality drew her into a diverse group of friends and acquaintances. Carol was intelligent and had little trouble getting along with her peers. She was almost always the first to jump in when it came to playing games or participating in other childhood activities. She was a girl scout. Carol had the ability to find amusement with almost any activity she and the many childhood friends she shared might discover. During her high school years, Carol responded enthusiastically to any new project and was regularly in search of one adventure after another. She graduated from Upland High School in 1964. Carol was a very good student, and generally did well in her courses. Carol absorbed as much as she could from all of her teachers and was consistently able to tackle conceptual and abstract problems, using her imagination to master her assignments. For Carol, school often became just an extension of playtime, thanks to her ability to turn just about anything into a game. Classmates considered Carol a good listener, knowing that when necessary, they could go to her to discuss just about anything. Carol did well in college, as a result of her comfort level with tackling new theories and her love of learning. She earned her degree in Cosmetology in 1965 at New Fashion Trend Academy of Beauty, and worked as a hair dresser for several years. She then earned her venipuncture certificate in 1984, and had been drawing blood ever since. Carol was very adaptable, a quality that helped her make the transition from high school to college with little difficulty. As a result, Carols problem solving skills and thirst for new knowledge almost guaranteed that she enjoyed virtually every class she took. Carol was always in quest of new things to learn and experience Carol was blessed with two children: Louis and Kathleen. She was also blessed with two grandchildren, Fereshteh and McKenzie. Carol was uplifted by new ideas and was excited by lifes possibilities, traits that made her an exceptional worker. Her primary occupation was as a phlebotomist, for the past 20 years. Carol was enterprising, inventive and working against deadlines seemed to energize her. Carol had the uncanny ability to identify a win/win solution to just about any problem, possibly because of her gift for insight. Carols fellow workers saw her as a supporter and a mentor.0 Because Carol loved to have a broad variety of activities in her life, she took advantage of the opportunity to pursue numerous hobbies. Her favorite pursuits were in photography. Carol had a knack for being able to multi-task in order to create time for all of her favorite pastimes. However, Carols ever-present concern for others always took precedent. Carol derived much satisfaction from participating in and watching sports. Her charisma, supportive nature and ability to improvise when called upon to do so all made perfect attributes for enjoying a great many sporting activities. In high school, Carol was a Majorette for Upland High School ing Band. Carol was also something of a sports fan and enjoyed watching her favorite events whenever she got the opportunity. Tops on her list was Dodger Baseball. Carol was a woman who was dedicated and devoted to her faith. She was a member at St. Josephs Catholic Church in Upland since a child. During that time, she was a parishioner. Carols love of improvising in her daily life was a perfect fit for her enjoyment of traveling. Her favorite vacations were ones that were not planned. Traveling in a casual manor fit her personality well. Excited about seeing changing scenery and constantly looking for the enjoyment life could offer, Carol took her vacations seriously, well, as seriously as she possibly could. Favorite vacations included a trip to Hawaii. Carol was a lover of animals and cherished her pets. Shadow, a black lab, was a best friend for 1 year. Her family was rounded out by her many dogs such as Precious, Princess and Jesse. Carol Nazionale passed away on 28, 2010 at Arrowhead Regional Medical s Trauma Ward.
