Obituary: Shirley Lund Nay 1935 – 2012 Shirley Lund Nay, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully in her home with her devoted husband and her son beside her, on , 24, 2012. She is survived by her husband Gardello Nay, her son Russell Nay, her 11 grandchildren, her 8 great-granchildren, her brother Glen Lund, and sister LaRetta Blair. Shirley was born on 28, 1935 in Manti, UT to Melvin and Stella Lund. She was the youngest of 5 children. Shirley grew up in Manti, and attended Snow where she met her sweetheart. Shirley and Gardello were married in the Manti Temple on 8, 1954. were blessed with two children, Russell and Kathleen. have been blessed with 11 grandchilren: Tiffany, Jason, Jennifer, Victoria, Joshua, Christopher, Heather, Ryan, Rusty, Mikey, and Kathleen. have also been blessed with 8 great-grandchildren. Gardello was in the Army, so the family traveled to many places. No matter where the family went, nor how long they were there, Shirley always made it home. In fact her favorite saying was, wherever Dad hangs his hat is . The most significant place they lived was the country of Iran, where they lived for 4 years, then went back later for another year. Other places they lived were San Francisco, CA, Ft. Lee, VA, Ft. Douglas, UT, BYU ROTC in Provo, UT, and Ft. Carson, CO. Shirleys greatest joy came in raising her children and creating a loving home for her family. She was a creative person who loved to quilt, sew, embroider, cross-stitch, knit, crochet, cake decorating, and any other type of craft. She had an artistic and creative mind. She was also very talented musically. She had a beautiful voice,, and played the piano all her life. In her later years she wrote a book with a collection of Christmas stories that was truly more of an autobiography of her and her love for the Christmas season. Shirley had a very strong testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ, and she loved the Lord. She served in many positions in the Church, particularly as Relief Society president twice, and as Primary president. But her true joy in service came in the Primary as the Chorister teaching the children to sing. She loved music, and sang in the choir for much of her life. Her greatest trial in her life was the loss of her daughter, Kathleen due to complications from MS. This was a grief that she struggled with until her passing on . Her strong testimony kept her going, along with the faith that she would be re-united with her daughter. We know that she has been reunited with her beloved daughter, and is free from pain and sorrow. There will be a viewing held , 28, 2012 from 6-8 pm at the Walker Sanderson (646 E. 800 N., Orem, UT 84097). Services will be held on , 29, 2012 starting at 11 am at the Orchard 1st Ward Chapel (670 E. 800 N., Orem UT 84097). There will be a viewing at the chapel prior to the services from 9:30 – 10:30 am.
